  1. We had a corner jacuzzi in the main floor bathroom that was never used and took up a bunch of space so it was time to remove it and put down new floor tiles & replace the toilet while we were at it. Finished job and a huge difference with the tub gone. Only casualty was my finger that got in the way of a hacksaw. LOL
  2. I've been fishing the Kawarthas for 60 odd years and can honestly say in all that time I've been checked by a CO exactly ONE time, and that wasn't even for fishing. It was opening day of duck season and he wanted to know if I heard anyone shooting before sunrise. No wonder so many people break the fishing rules with no worries.
  3. I don't have any details other than what the farmers neighbor passed onto us today.
  4. Just an update on this elk. We heard today from a person who lives close to this farm that the elk attacked and killed 4 of the cows so the farmer was forced to shoot him. Unfortunate but obviously the farmer had no choice.
  5. I always carry a set of booster cables in the boat just in case my starting battery won't fire up my motor. Hook them up to a deep cycle and away you go. And I can help another boater who may be stranded.
  6. Your a handy guy bud, nice work.
  7. Beautiful work Bernie, looks brand new.
  8. Lotsa water going through the dams at Youngs Point & Lakefield Norm, maybe I should sneak over there tonight and shut them down a little bit for ya. LOL
  9. Great pictures Simon, folks who sleep late miss the best part of the day. The one with your pooch is excellent.
  10. As Paudash said, go to Costco and pick up a Kirkland battery for around $100 and your all set and don't need to worry about being stranded somewhere on the water. Nothing worse that worrying if things will work or not.
  11. Yeah they were brave for sure, both Navy and Merchant Marine and saw things most of us can't even imagine but most of those guys, including my dad, joined for the adventure and probably had no idea what they were getting themselves into. But they stuck it out just like the soldiers & airmen and kicked Hitler's butt. Guys in the Navy at least had weapons to defend themselves, depth charges, hedgehogs and guns, but men in the Merchant Marines had very little and most of their ships had nothing to fight with....and THAT took guts. The story you linked about the Merchant Marine looks like it'll be an excellent read and I'm gonna save it till tomorrow morning with my coffee.
  12. My dad was in the Navy during the war escorting convoys from Canada to Great Britain and the rule was, they travelled as slow as the slowest ship so as not to leave anyone behind.. As you say Bruce, it made them easy targets for the U-Boats and Dad saw far too many ships sunk with a huge loss of life and one night alone 3 ships were blown up with no survivors. This was Dad's ship, HMCS Kitchener
  13. Guess they'll work both ways, if the cop does everything by the book and someone complains about him, the camera should prove the cop right. If the cop screws up, it'll prove he did it...maybe. I'm 110% pro cop, always have been, and hopefully these cameras will help the good cops whenever there's a discrepancy..
  14. My apologies, I missed where you said that.
  15. I never said anything about everyone living in fear and needing to carry guns and I certainly made no mention of the USA. I said soldiers are now a target and if their gonna carry a gun at least put bullets in them. Someone must think what their doing may be dangerous if their paying police to stand beside them for protection.
  16. Watching this mornings news they say it's gonna cost $425,000 to have cops guarding the soldiers. I just don't get it, we have well trained soldiers with empty guns being protected by the Ottawa Police when all it would take would be to let the soldiers do what their trained to do. Sometimes I just have to shake my head at the way things are done in this country.
  17. Thanks John, I always enjoy reading about different ships.
  18. Pigeon is a great musky lake.
  19. Well said Bruce
  20. Agreed 100% and it's sad the way political correctness gets in the way of so many good things. I was in Navy League Cadets in the 50's, Sea Cadets in the early 60's and then the Navy. Rifles were always used for ceremonial purposes & parades and I don't ever remember it being an issue back then or anyone complaining about the guns. I was even in uniform in the late 40's but I was too darned little to lift a gun...me on your left and my bro on your right.
  21. Yes guarding the Cenotaph is ceremonial but it's been proven now that soldiers a target with the murder in Ottawa and a few days before that the soldier in Quebec being deliberately killed with a car. Not looking to start an argument here, just giving my opinion.
  22. No offence, but kids doing rifle drill for parade is a big difference from professional soldiers with empty guns unable to do the job their trained for.
  23. But if the other soldier was able to kill the terrorist right away he wouldn't have had the chance to get into the Parliament Building and put others at risk too. We're living in different times now and soldiers are a target. Soldiers are here to protect us and with empty guns it's gonna be hard for them to do.
  24. I heard on the news today that Canadian Soldiers have returned to guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for the 1st time since the murder last year. What I don't understand though is they will still be carrying weapons with NO bullets as always and the Ottawa Police will be patrolling the area to keep them safe. Never could understand why we have soldiers with empty rifles, especially after what happened last year, yet the police are armed. If the soldiers were armed when they were attacked at the Cenotaph it may have had a much happier outcome. Anybody agree with me ??
  25. I joined this board 13 years ago and still remember the 1st thread I read was about PowerPro. I'd never tried it on my musky reels but it sounded good so I bought a spool and liked it so much it went on all my other reels too. Never seen anything better and have never had a reason to try anything else....if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
