That's crazy Norm as that's exactly where we moved from that day. We left Robbins Ave which was the 1st street south of Gerrard running east off Coxwell. You may have seen my family running around the neighborhood trying to catch all our flying furniture LOL

I had a house trailer on a small Kawartha lake for 36 years and the musky fishing was excellent yet very few people ever fished for them there except me. I knew every rock, stump and blade of grass that held fish but most days I had them all to myself Alot of years I'd average around 100 fish annually and usually get at least 1 a week over 45" with plenty over 50" and one morning I boated 9 fish in 2 1/2 hours. I used to post a ton of fishing reports on this board over the years but never once did I ever name the lake. Plenty of guys from this board fished with me and I always asked not to name it either. Don't know if that helped keep the place unknown or not but I imagine it must have helped. I'd think if everyone knew how great the fishing was there it would have been much more pressured. Haven't been back there for 7 years now but I still never see the name posted on this or any other board and I think that's a good thing but who really knows.

My folks had a new home built at Leslie & Lawrence in Don Mills in 1954 and the day Hazel hit was the day we moved in. Long time ago and I was only 7 but I remember it like it was yesterday and can still see our stuff blowing down the street. West end of Toronto got hit far harder then we did in the east end though and if I recall correctly 88 people died in the Humber River area. Lousy day for Toronto.

You'll be just fine with smaller baits, specially in the Kawarthas. Just be sure to still have heavy enough gear to get the fish into the boat quickly and you'll have no issues.

I agree with this ^^^^^ and figure they'll drop off when the time is right. Thanks also for the info on how the antlers are measured.

Good to hear you fellas like the pictures and thanks for the link to that huge buck Paul, absolutely massive antlers. Yes, this guys antlers are very symmetrical and look like a perfect match but not sure what your referring to as the G2 on his right.

Snowmobiler through the ice and missing in Peterborough
lew replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
This accident happened just 1 mile north of my place and I sure hope it wasn't anyone I know. The helicopter flew above my house on the way south then a short time later it came over again heading back up. It was flying very low and I said to my wife something bad must have happened close by. Strange too as I was working outside a couple hours earlier and a snowmobile was running real fast on the lake and I wondered then if the ice was safe as there hasn't been many machines on the lake this winter. Always sad when this sorta thing happens to folks just out for some fun. -
This big boy usually shows up at dusk and it's normally too dark for a picture but he came by about 20 minutes ago so I was able to get this shot. Really impressive critter and he had his smaller buddy with him with the tiny antlers. I'd sure like to find those antlers when he drops them.

Thanks Cliff, it's just something I enjoy doing, guess you could call it a hobby.....a very expensive hobby LOL

A bag of feed is 50 pounds and lasts about 2 days Cliff but if the weather is nasty I put out extra.
-
Yeah, these guys are pretty laid back Paul LOL As for the salt, I put a block out 2 years ago and they didn't seen the least bit interested and by the end of the winter it still looked almost new. Maybe I'll grab another one and see if they like it.

Thanks boys, glad to hear you enjoy seeing these guys as much as I do. Last night just before sunset I had a deer in the yard with the biggest set of antlers I've ever seen on a deer but there wasn't enough light for a picture. Sure hope I can get a good picture of him before he drops the antlers. That lad was a true trophy...at least to me anyways.

In the last hour I've had 7 deer and 3 turkeys show up for something to eat and I always get a kick out of watching them share the trough and even make room for each other. You'd almost think they were buds

Private Cottage Recommendation for Weekend Ice Fishing Trip
lew replied to adempsey's topic in General Discussion
Some places don't want dogs because they shed hair and make a mess of the cabins and create a lot of extra work for the folks cleaning them. I know of at least a couple places that require a deposit that's refunded if there's no mess but keep it to cover the extra expense of cleaning unwanted hair. -
The fire was only a few miles from me, lousy news for sure.

Great picture Bud and Merry Christmas to you & yours

Driving down my road this morning coming back from town and it was snowing like crazy and I come across a ghostly figure ahead of me. Turns out it was a beautiful doe out for an early morning stroll enjoying the scenery so I took her picture.

Thanks guys, good to hear everybody likes seeing deer and Dara, that's a couple great pics of a lot of deer. Most I've had in the yard at one time was 17. I've also thought of the trail cam. Here's a favorite picture I took a couple years ago. That's a big ole Tom turkey that took up residence in my yard for the whole winter once he found out there was a constant food supply and he didn't care how many deer were already at the trough, he'd just muscle his way in between everybody and gorge himself. Best part was watching the deer move over for him and If he could'nt push his way thru the crowd he'd jump right up into the trough LOL
-
Thanks boys, I may look into another camera this winter.

Every winter I keep a trough full of a mixture of corn, oats and molasses in the back yard for the deer and usually have about a dozen deer a day stop by for something to eat. Mostly females, some with young ones, but I seldom see any males until this year and in just the last couple days I've had 5 different males show up and it sure is impressive to watch these big magnificent bucks up close. None of these pictures are very good and I'm thinking it's time for a new camera but you can get an idea of what I get to watch every day. They range from a 4 pointer, a 6, a 7, an 8 pointer who lost one antler 2 days ago right up to one that was here twice today and my best guess it has somewhere around 12 to 13 points from what I could see thru the binoculars. These are all different deer in my yard from the last couple days. The 8 pointer with a full rack Same critter with one side missing And the last one with a HUGE rack

Automatic car starter advice please. Not Fishing related
lew replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
As I said in my reply, I know nothing about remote starters so I wasn't sure how they worked. On my truck, once it's started with the remote you need to unlock the door then insert the key in the ignition and turn it on. Perhaps they're all designed the same way. -

I know nothing about after market starters but try and get one that you can use to also lock your cars doors remotely. You don't want to start the car and then have some low life steal it on you.
