I'm not really sure Roy, like I say, I've never used a Dipsey before so I'm not familiar with the setup, but I was figuring maybe 5 - 6' between the Dipsey and the lure ?? I'll be trolling cranks. Whatdya think ??
-
OK then, I think I'll go with the spare reel with the PP on it and then run a fluoro leader off the back end to the bait. Thanks boyz
-
Thanks Zib, I have another spare reel spooled with Power Pro, maybe I'd be better using that setup and then running a mono or fluoro leader from the diver to the lure ??
-
I was gonna say, it didn't seem to interfere with your catching at all

I was thinking of trying a Dipsey Diver at Quinte this May for pickeral but have never used one before. Just looking for something different for trolling in the clear water during the daytime, and have no interest in jigging. We always flatline after dark in close to shore, but that doesn't work too well anymore in the daylight hours. I've got a Daiwa line counter reel spooled with 10 pound mono on an 8' medium action TDR rod. Would 10 # mono be strong enuff to hold the Dipsey, or do I need heavier line ??

Well, when all we had was 2 strokes, we sucked in alot of stinking blue exhaust smoke all day for one thing, plus we either cleaned or changed our spark plugs every few trips. The good ole days weren't always that good

Good to see you boyz getting into some really nice fish, despite the nasty conditions !!

My Grandfather spent 4 years in the trenches in WW1 with the British Army and some of his stories were just un-believable to say the least. There aren't many people alive today that could even begin to comprehend the horrors that those guys went thru.

Thanks Gbay, that's some great pictures of some magnificent animals !!

The job's coming along great Jigger, and thanks for letting us follow the progress. Lookin forward to seeing the finished product.

Not to hijack your thread Kelvin, but now that Toronto has been given the power from the province to impose it's own taxes, were gonna be looking at a whole list of things with additional taxes added on. Booze, movies, entertainment, theaters and who knows what else. Perhaps this is the same type of thing that Niagara is being allowed to do ??

Just by coincidence, my 1st day on the Fire Dept was 39 years ago today, but the hiring process and qualifications have changed drastically in the last 4 decades, so I really can't offer too much as to what you need to know as far as certificates and courses required for acceptance. Advanced First Aid, CPR and a DZ license are definately required as far as I know though, even before your considered. I'd suggest contacting the Training Division of your Department and they could steer you in the right direction, but stopping into one of the stations and talking to a few of the younger guys who have been hired recentely would also be a good idea. FireFighting is one of the most sought after jobs there is in the country and the list of applicants is always very large, so there is plenty of competition whenever openings become available. I've been retired for 6 years now, but never regretted a single day on the job. Good luck.

jeez Marc, are you saying checkered shirts AREN'T cool for musky fish'n anymore ??

Good to hear you arrived safely Mike, even without the winter tires. It's always a tough call as to when is the right time to remove them, but here in Southern Ontaio, were "usually" pretty safe by April 1st.......but sometimes we get caught

I put a wooden floor in a boat about 25 years ago and went with the indoor-outdoor carpeting, and although it looked nice and wore fairly well, it was terrible for snagging hooks that were dropped on the floor of the boat. It was just like getting a barb thru your jeans and having to either rip it out and tear the carpet fabric, or cut it free with a knife and again damage the fabric. I've found that hooks don't get stuck in good marine grade carpets. The outdoor carpeting is probably better today than back then, and the snagging may not be a problem anymore, but it's just something to think about in the meantime.

In 2001, I traded in a 90 Johnson 2 stroke, for a 90 Merc 4 stroke. The Merc weighed 85 pounds more but I only lost about 1 MPH which isn't even enough to worry about, at least not to me anyways. Alot of folks seem really concerned about a slower hole shot with 4 stroke, but I honestly didn't notice any difference, and besides, I'm going fishing, not drag racing. Maybe there's a noticible difference on hole shot speed as the HP increases, but I spose it's all what you find important. I have friends with 2 strokes in the 90-135 HP range and can't honestly see where their hole shots are any faster than mine, comparatively speaking. I do like the quietness of 4 strokes and the fact that I can troll all day long without it fouling the plugs, and even after 8 hours trolling and I hit the throttle, it's instantaneous with no sluggishness till it "clears" itself and the lack of blue smoke is a definate plus. Plenty of power and excellent fuel economy, specially at slower speeds. I do agree with Nippissing though, the old 2 strokes had a bad rep, and it was certainly warranted, but things definetely seem to have changed in the last few years as the technology improves and many folks prefer newer 2 stroke over the 4. I've heard it said that any Merc 90 HP and under your better with 4 stroke and over 90 HP go with Opti. Good luck with whatever you decide on Pooch, I think either one will be a good choice for you.

I also remember when it happened Brian, and it's great to hear that your still doing so well and will finally be joining us at Lakair in June !! As for the donor card, it's signed and in my wallet all the time, infact everyone in my family carries signed cards. It was very tragic when my own son died 2 1/2 years ago, but the one positive thing that came from his death was the fact that he also carried a signed donar card and many people benefitted from it.

Thanks Marc, that's a great old video with some very nice muskies, but I hafta tell you, I'm sure happy we changed our fishing habits years ago and got into C & R as opposed to keeping those toothies like we used to back in the day
