  1. I like a shorter rod too Matt and use a 6' 6" Premier. Some guys like to go with a longer rod for jerkbaits though, all depends how you like to work your baits...out to the side or straight down in front.
  2. Wow, FAT FAT fish, that thing was a real beaut....Luv the very fast release too !!!!! That's what it's all about boyz
  3. I was at the Sportsman Show on Wednesday and made a point of looking for Dave at his booth and introducing myself. We had a long chat and even made plans to share a boat for a few muskies this summer.
  4. Mornin nelly, that sounds like one heck of a breakfast
  5. I was looking at Shimano Calcutta rod at the show yesterday and it looked pretty nice and was in the $260 range if I remember correctly. I don't know anything about that model but it sure had a nice feel to it.
  6. TJ, as Mike said, there aren't really any nice places in the Direct Energy building to have a g2g, and basically the entire Exhibition Grounds are isolated from the rest of the city. Your south of the Gardner Expressway with nothing on either side of you anywhere, so you may want to think of a better meeting someplace away from there and further up into the city.
  7. Just be aware that bass doesn't open in the Kawarthas until near the end of June, and there are no pike in Stoney Lake........at least if your talkin about the Stoney Lake just north of Peterboro.
  8. Good to hear things are gonna work out OK for you Cliff. I nearly met the exact same fate as you just this afternoon. I was driving across town and coming up on a green light in my favor, and just as I entered the intersection another car was heading north and going right thru a red light going waaaaaay over the speed limit. He swerved into the south bound lanes to avoid me and only missed me by about 5 feet then nearly hit a southbound car head-on and almost rolled as he tried to re-gain control of his car. By the time I stopped, caught my breath and thanked my lucky stars, he was just a blurr as he raced north and outta site. Jeeeeeeeez !!!!
  9. Actually johnnyb, were getting snow pellets falling right now and then rain is forecast for later today......good call
  10. Thanks Cliff, but I think TJ's explanation was easier to understand
  11. I took this picture of some very odd looking clouds from my backyard about 20 minutes ago and thought some may find it interesting. Guess it was a lucky shot as the shape had totally disappeared within a couple minutes. Or am I the only one that finds this interesting ??
  12. C'mon holdfast, let it all out, tell us how you REALLY feel
  13. Dan McTeague (sp) the MP who is always talking about gas prices, but never really does anything about them, claims that everbodies prediction of $1.50 / litre by summer is inacurate, and he claims the prices will actually drop to about .95 ¢ I've heard that on a couple different news reports in the last week or so, but who knows where he's getting his info from A couple local stations here in Toronto were $1.09.4 yesterday but have dropped to $1.08.8 today, so maybe his prediction of the downward slide to cheaper Canadian gasoline has already started.......ya right
  14. Sorry Bill, it wasn't me, and I'm not familiar with that bait, but maybe someone else will see your question & have an answer for you.
  15. Mike, the 7' 6" Compre at JB's is $125
  16. Mike, I've been using both St. Croix & Compres for muskies for quite awhile and they're both excellent rods in my opinion, infact I just bought another 7' 6" Heavy Compre at the show today along with a Calcutta TE400 to go with it. I also use a Tekota 600LC for trolling and again, it's a great piece of equipment that I'd highly recommend. It's very smooth with alot of cranking power and handles big bait very well. If it says Shimano, you know your getting quality
  17. WTG Joey, nice stuff happens to nice people
  18. Scary stuff Cliff, good to hear your OK though. Did the other fella slide thru the red light because of icy roads due to the plow drivers & salters being on strike up your way ??
  19. I couldn't tell you in minutes or hours per day SNAG, but I've been hanging around here for about 6 years or so, so ya, I guess you could say this place is addictive
  20. The 300 was the only image I could find on the net Wayne, but your not sposed to look so closely at the pictures anyways
  21. Yup, it was a good show this year. I got there at 10 this morning and stayed till about 3:30 and had a nice time just wandering around. As usual, I plarked at Ontario Place, walked an extra 5 minutes and kept the $11 in my pocket. There were quite a few OFNers there and I spent a fair bit of time yakking with everyone. I didn't need much stuff but picked up another Compre musky rod & a Calcutta TE400, from Brian at JB's, plus a bit if terminal tackle.
  22. TMH, I also spend alot of time fishing solo and am as guilty as anyone for not wearing a PFD, but last August I was alone in the boat while casting in some pretty rough water up on the West Arm of Nippissing. There wasn't another boat around for miles and even the cottages are pretty sparce along that north shore. I realized how stupid I was being and put a jacket on, and it was funny, but I immediately felt much more secure and made a promise to myself right then that I'd start wearing it alot more when I'm solo, specially on those big, relatively empty lakes.
  23. TMH, I'm sure your aware of it, but incase your not, those inflatables must be worn at all times when your in the boat in order for them to be legal, you can't have them over the back of your seat or in a locker. If you do have a regular PFD in your boat, then the inflatable doesn't have to be worn. But as I say, that's just an FYI incase your weren't aware of it.
  24. Nice Jed, but how is it for towing a boat ??
