I always find it interesting Pete, that the guys on the TV shows are often pushing products and saying how good they are, yet regular fish'n folks who aren't getting payed to advertise items will often have a totally different opinion on things. Right at the top of your list for Superlines/Braids is Berkely Fireline Crystal. I saw this stuff advertised on the tube awhile back and thought a semi-transparent braid may be worth looking at, yet when I asked here on OFC what everybody thought of it, most of the boyz didn't have anything good to say about it. Same as Berkely Vanish......alot of the TV hosts use this line on their shows and are always saying how great it is, but ask about Vanish here on the board and you'll hardly ever hear anything good said about it, infact most folks will say to stay totally away from it. Charlie Ray for many years pushed Honda outboards as the best thing to hit the fishing world since hooks were invented, but I see now he's using Mercs I spose it all depends on who's hat their wearing at the time the show is made I must admit though, the Calcutta TE is an awesome reel, even though I haven't had a chance to use my new one yet but I've used friends and it's pretty impressive and I'm anxiously waiting for June 7th to arrive

The term hero gets thrown around pretty loosely these days and it's given to everybody from hockey players to movie actors for some strange reason, but to me there's nobody who deserves the classifcation more than Terry Fox......he stands for what the word REALLY means. When he came thru Toronto so many years ago we all went to see him as he ran by only a couple blocks from my home and when he died I remember it like it was this morning. A group of us were standing on the front lawn of my trailer shooting the breeze and it came over the radio and you could practically hear a pin drop as everybody just kinda stood in silence. Canada and all Canadians lost someone VERY special when Terry Fox died.

Probably been 5 years since I last used mono, 'cept for leaders, but I was always happy with Berkely XL. Never had a problem with it and I'd imagine it's still as good today.

Good to hear you finally broke the tarpon skunk Jamie

I can't speak for anyone else, but personally I use 130 # fluoro leaders on all my musky rods and it has nothing to do with invisibility. The fluoro is much easier on the fish when they roll up in the line, plus it doesn't kink up like wire leaders do. Before I switched to Seaguar several years ago, I was using Stringese leaders at about $6 each and would often have to discard the leader due to kinks after even one fish, and on a good day with 6 or 7 muskies and an equal number of leaders ruined, it tends to get rather expensive. Good fluoro leaders will outlast wire 20-1 At least that's my take on things

Family & Friends Fishing The Bay of Quinte
lew replied to Mike the Pike's topic in General Discussion
Nice to hear the trip turned out good for you guys Mike and you got into some fish. I phoned you from from the boat on Hay Bay Sunday morning and left you a message as to our location but when I didn't hear back, I assumed you were busy with the weather & fish. We'll try it again next year bud -
Thanks for the laffs fellas, but to be perfectly honest, the Princess Margaret Lottery is one I don't mind losing to cause even if my tickets don't win any prizes, my $$$$ has gone to a wonderful organization. We buy many $150 tickets every year and I can't think of a better place to give my money to.

I posted earlier today that I was purchasing a new cot for my tent from BPS this week and it was gonna cost me $100. Well, this afternoon I received a letter from the Princess Margaret Lottery folks telling me I'd won a prize in the latest draw and they enclosed a cheque for........you guessed it......$100 Fate....coincidence.....Karma ?? Whatever it was, ya gotta luv it when a plan comes together

Absolutely Raf, I never could understand why folks cancel a fish'n trip because of some nasty weather. We had a couple 15 year old's in our group this weekend and they never once complained about the rain or wind and stuck it out as good as anyone else, infact the 10 pound pickeral was caught by one of them in 3' waves late at night. That's a couple kids that are gonna grow up on the right side of the fence

Thanks to you too Roger & Pete, we were posting at the same time. And Dave, she actually helps me pack but I don't know if that's a hint or not
-
Thanks Bud, that's what I wanted to hear. I'll stick with the BPS model though as I like an extra wide & long bed.
-
I need a new bed for my tent and found this cot on the BPS website and it looks like what I'm after. I like a big solid bed and this one is 89" x 40" wide so it should work well. It's a Redhead model & BPS Vaughn has them in stock for $100 Anybody use one ??

This same discussion about OOS fish pops up about every 10 minutes around here and everybody has an opinion about the legalities, but it all boils down to the fact that the folks who run & own this particular website have asked us many many times to please NOT post ANY pictures of fish caught out of season.

Bill, I haven't got the reel here at the house, but if I remember correctly I think it's 5.3-1. It's a 7000 series reel and has got a large capacity spool and that really increases the pick-up speed on the retrieve. Maybe have a look at one when you get to JB's, I think you'll like it for jerkbaits. It'll probably feel a bit large initially, but it takes no time to get used to it and I can cast with mine for hours at a time without getting tired.
-
Bill, my personal preferrence for jerking ot WTD is a 6' 6" Premier with an Abu Big Game HS The short rod keeps the tip outta the water and the Big Game brings in the slack line very fast.

I just got back myself from our annual long weekend camping / fishing at Quinte and we had an excellent time despite some rain, cold temps and huge winds, you just need to be prepared for it and act accordingly. Lotsa fleece clothes, a good Gore-Tex rainsuit, a waterproof tent & heater and good company and you can put up with anything the weather doods throw at ya. Hang a 20' x 30' tarp from the trees and keep a huge bonefire going steady and a bit of nasty weather means nothing As always, the pickeral & pike fishing was excellent at night around the Glenora ferry and everybody in our group had a fabulous weekend. The biggest pickeral was around 10 pounds and came on a perch colored minnow bait trolled over the weeds about 10 o'clock Saturday night. Getting ready for whatever they wanted to throw at us

I spose I'm pretty happy I picked the profession I did, cause once I walked out the door at 5 o'clock the last thing on my mind was work or anything work related, and it stayed that way until I was scheduled to walk back in the door.
-
Nope, your not mistaken Glen and that woulda been me. I was buying a new bowmount last year and got a price from LeBarons, then called BPS and found they were $30 higher and asked if they would price match and was told No, BPS doesn't offer that service. Seems all employees weren't aware of the policy a year ago but that could very well have changed by now.
-
Good to hear you got the boat all rigged up the way you want it Kevin and good luck this season with all the new goodies.

Annual 4 day pickeral trip to Quinte

Thanks for the update Mo, I guess they've changed the charges cause on this mornings news it said he was charged with impaired. Guess it doesn't really matter though to all those who's lives he destroyed.

A guy in Toronto last night was drunk and doing an estimated 120k in a 60k zone when he lost control, crossed the center median, hit a van and then several other vehicles. Two people in his car were killed, 2 more critically iunjured and several other innocent folks were injured plus 1/2 a dozen vehicles smashed up. The punk that caused all the trouble walked away with only a sprained ankle and has been charged with impaired driving. Too bad the coppers didn't grab him about 30 seconds earlier........

I've never been a carp fan nauti, but congrats to you on getting yerself your PB You seem to put alot of time on the water lookin for those critters, so you certainly deserve to be rewarded with another biggun.
