I was out on the lake earlier today and just got back in awhile ago and was surprised to see this thread still going strong, but lots of good opinions here along with the links. I'm no expert on animal poop but I'm still going with a bear just from the shape and size of the droppings, which are actually much larger than they appear in my original picture. Someone mentioned possibly a dog but I've owned dogs my entire life, including a very big St. Bernard and nothing compares to this. I've never seen a coyote big enuff for it either, but I spose it could be a large wolf but to be honest I don't even know if we have wolves around here....15 miles north of Peterboro. I've been hanging around these parts for more than 50 years and have never seen a wolf. I did hear alot of howling after sunset last night, which isn't uncommon, but I'm pretty sure it was a bunch of coyotes. Anyways, it makes for an interesting discussion, thanks for everyones opinions.

I looked for tracks too Will but it's all just soft leaves there so nothing showed up. Fella down the road had a bear in his yard last week and I'm guessing it's the same guy.

Me and the pooch were out wandering thru the bush this morning and I came across this little pile about 100 yards behind my property. It's too big for a dog, at least any dog around here, and also too much for a coyote I think. It's about 6 or 7" long and 1 1/2" wide There's bears in this area and I'm just wondering if I had a visitor this morning as this was pretty fresh. Anybody know for sure ??

About 30 years ago I was helping my bud launch his 14' tinny at the ramp in our trailer park. He backed it into the water and got out of the truck but the trailer wasn't in quite far enuff to float the boat. Rather than get back in the truck we decided to just push it in by hand. I reached down to un-clip the bow strap just as buddy pushed the boat and the crank handle spun backwards about a thousand MPH and smacked me square in the face and split my cheek wide open and just about knocked me cold. Wide enuff infact that I could stick finger right out thru the cut. Happened so darned fast that I didn't even know what happened and I've still got the scar after all these years. And as for trying to launch the boat with the transom straps still attached....well I've done that too....twice infact

To all the Mothers that have gone before us..
lew replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
It's been 15 months now since my Mom passed away and I don't think an hour ever goes by that I don't think about her. She was 87 and lived a very happy life and was basically quite healthy except for the last few months. She loved a boat ride and the faster I went and the bigger the waves the more she enjoyed it and I got her out on the water as often as possible. I've got a great pic of her just after I slowed the boat down, with her hair all messed up from the wind. I'd luv to post it but she made me promise to never show it to ANYONE hahaha Mom's are definetely special people and for those of you who are lucky enuff to still have your Mom around, cherish every moment you have with them. I was very fortunate that I had a great family but sadly I'm losing them all way too fast. That's my dad, my son, my brother and now mom all in the last few years. Good thing I've got LOTS of wonderful memories and albums full of pictures. And Joe, very sorry to hear of your Moms passing, specially at this time. -
Absolutely Matt, and thanks. Once I get it all slimed & chewed up I'll post the picture to show how well it works I'll PM you my new address.

Good stuff Matt, they turned out excellent.

My new F-150 came with 18" Goodyear Wranglers. I've only got 8K on them but so far they seem like good tires. They ride quiet & smooth on the hiways and went thru the snow with no problems, but as Jer says we didn't really get much anyways this past winter. I always use dedicated winter tires for the cold months but may just give these a try next winter and see what happens.

That was exactly my reasoning too, it's like a fire extinguisher, their good to have but hopefully we never have to use them.

Sounds like you had a real mixed bag Ron. Some GREAT fishing, some failed gear, but then a happy ending to everything. I've also been into Lowrance on Matheson a couple times and was always treated like the most important guy they'd seen all week....excellent customer service !! Never knew MinnKota had a repair shop in Pickering, where bouts exactly are they ?? It'll sure be alot closer than Aikmens if I ever need anything.

My boats sitting here in the garage and has been rigged & ready to go for weeks but until this week there's been nothing open that I have any interest in fishing for. I think I'll probably hit Clear Lake on Thursday and give the boat it's 1st good run of the year then do some trolling for pickeral for a few hours. I added a VHF to the boat a couple weeks back just in case I run into problems on the bigger waters that I frequent thru the year. I'll be on Nipissing for 2-3 weeks this year, plus the Ottawa & St. Lawrence Rivers. Hopefully I won't ever need it.

You could very well be right skeeter, I wasn't blaming anyone in particular but I DO think in the end the mfg is the one who has the responsibility of ensuring the product is delivered in a reasonable amount of time. As I said, it was a brand new trailer that I'd just taken delivery of 2 weeks previously and had driven to Quinte and back. I'd backed the boat into the water and as I was pulling the trailer back out the spring inside the axle snapped and jammed the wheel up into the well. On a mfg defect I just don't think the customer should have to wait 3 weeks for repairs.

When I bought my new Skeeter last year it came on an EZLOADER trailer and after only about 300 miles something snapped in the torsion axle and I couldn't use the trailer. Fortunately the boat was in the water so I didn't need the trailer but it took 3 weeks for the dealer to get a new axle shipped in and fix things up. I was pretty pi$$ed that it took that long for them to ship an axle to replace a faulty one on a brand new rig. If I didn't have a dock to keep the boat I'd have been without it for all that time. I don't know where the axle came from but it shouldn't have taken that long IMHO

Hilarious stuff Joe !! In our entire lives my brother and I only ever had one argument but it was so long ago I can't even remember what it was about. I was 10 and Ed was 9 and for whatever reason I took a swing at him but he ducked and I hit him on top of his head and broke 2 of MY fingers. He joked about it for decades later that he beat me up without ever taking his hands outta his pockets

Your annual spring trip to Algonquin is one I watch for every year and as usual, it sounds like you guys had a fantastic time. Always enjoy reading your fishing tales.

Good to have you back in Ontario Clive and as always, a great fish'n tale.

You've got a sweet ride now Louie and you sound like a happy man !! Goodonya

Been raining here for about 24 hours , sometimes very heavy but that's OK cause we sure do need it, but just in the last 30 minutes it's been mixing with some wet snow.

My wife and I have an understanding......I don't tell her how to cook and she doesn't tell me when I can or can't buy a new vehicle. I buy a brand new truck every 3 - 5 years and she makes the best roast beef dinner you'll find anywhere. It's a system that's kept us VERY happily married for nearly 44 years.
