I don't know how many times, while waiting in line; that I've got out of my truck, walked past all the idiots honking their horns and complaining and help or try and explained why everyone is so angry. At first the guy in need of help or education refuses the help; but I say it's my help or (pointing to the line up) their abuse? I've actually have made a few new friends that way. Dan. -
It sure is still a thing and working better then ever. I just did a bunch of work on a guy's truck that he uses for work. He didn't have all the coin to fix it and I need our kitchen and back room repaired & painted, after some water damage. Guess what buddy does for a living and oh man do I hate drywall and painting. LOL Dan.

I remember a few years back, the OPP were handing out stickers for your boat, if you passed an inspection. Are they not doing that anymore? It seemed like a good idea; especially on days like bass opener or Pottahawk pissup weekend, on Long Point Bay; where it was nothing to get stopped a few times a day, during those days. Dan.

I would have normally agreed with this Lew; I've been backing up trailers since I was a kid on the farm and rarely ever have a problem. That's until I bought this short wheel based (ball coupler to axle) trailer; it's like tiring to get a football to roll strait. I'm slowly getting use to it; but slightest turn of the steering wheel and the trailer reacts twice as much. Dan. -
When you're trying out these props, don't forget to trim the boat out; it'll be different with each prop. My rule of thumb for a fully trimmed boat is, at wide open (on smooth water) keep bringing the bow up, until the boat starts to porpoise and then bring it down just enough for the porpoising to stop. I can usually squeeze out a couple hundred more rpm and 2-4 mph by doing so. You'll know you're getting close to the proper trim; you'll hear some of the load coming off the motor. I can't find the pic that a friend took, when we were running side by side. I was in my 16' tiller starcraft on plain and trimmed out; only the back 3' of the boat was still in the water, with the rest of the boat level to the horizon. Dan.

That's what I'd do, if I owned one of these cars equipped with that airbag. But can you imagine the consequences of someone being injured or killed because the airbags were purposely disabled. I wouldn't want to be the person who made that decision to have 34 million vehicle's air bags disabled. When GM was in the middle of their ignition switch fiasco and the replacement parts were not available after the announcement of the recall. All the owner of one of the affected vehicles had to say; I feel unsafe and I want a rental, until it is repaired. My wife is a service advisor at a GM dealership, they had so many cars on the lot; that they had to start parking them at the rental agency where they were getting the replacement car for their customers. Power trim for sure. Run the trim (motor) down all the way for takeoff (puts you on plain faster). Then as your speed picks up, start trimming the bow up, until you hit your best speed, which is just before the boat starts to porpoise. Different loads in the boat different trim settings. Dan.

Like I said, yes they're not perfect and do fail at times; but I've also hear a lot of stories like Drifter's where they've put a crap load of miles on them and never had an issue? I think with your daughter in law's vehicle, I would unplug her stereo; that way she'll be able to hear the next bearing failing, long before it got to the point it did. LOL Dan.

Scraper and a heat gun. Warm the glue up just enough to soften it and then scrape it off. Yes you have to be careful not to overheat the area, you're working on; but it works. I've removed glued on advertisement stickers from cars & trucks this way and haven't burnt any paint YET. LOL I would work on small areas at a time; then move to a completely different area, allowing the first to cool. Too much heat in a large area could warp the metal. The wife's hair dryer is not hot enough or you'll burn it out. Get a proper heat gun for this and I'll bet you'll find 100's of uses for it even after this project. Dan.

No I guess not. But I wonder how many cars & truck that are driven year round, in all kinds of conditions for hundreds of thousands of kms and have never had to replace a sealed non serviceable wheel bearing/hub assembly; that are being used on better than 90% of today's vehicles? I'm not saying they don't fail; but nowheres near as much as a tapered roller bearing set up; even ones that have been properly maintained. Like you said, if you get the axle (AKA Differential) below water; you had better check for contaminated axle lube. Dan.

I still cannot believe that trailers (of all types) are still using tapered roller bearings, that need servicing on an annual basis. Why haven't they gone with sealed bearing/hub assemblies; they've been used for automotive applications for years. Is it cost? Dan

That one would work; but it's a click on and click off type switch. I think he'd be better off with a momentary switch; meaning you would have to hold the switch on in either the up or down position and shuts off when released. The catalogs usually list them with these abbreviations "Mom On/Off/Mom On" in their description. There's no doubt that buddies do work; they keep the bearings lubed between servicings. Huds still need to be disassembled and bearings inspected on a regular basis. People have to remember that a lot of these trailers are running relatively smaller wheels than an automotive wheel/tire assemblies. These little guys and their bearings could be spinning twice as fast as the tow vehicle's and need to be respected for the extra work they're doing. Dan.

X3 Manually repack the bearings twice a year; once at the end of the season and at about half way through the season. Why those time frames; you don't want to put the trailer away with water contaminated grease, to sit and rust over the winter. Half way through the season, for peace of mind that they're ok. Been doing that for years and have never had a bearing failure, out on the road; knock on wood. Dan.

You sailors at heart will laugh at this; but I've always used good quality cambuckle straps. Remove the open hooks and replace them with carabiners. Two 2000lb rated straps/carabiners and your boat's not going anywhere. Even after some hard pulls on the straps, one push on the cam and the straps come loose; not like a rope, where you're fighting to get it untied after a knot has pulled tight. Dan.

If you can fine the paint in a rattle spray can; spray the amount you need into a small container and have at it with your brush. Dan.
