  1. I feel for you; my Avalanche was stolen, one year ago last weekend. Yeah it was a great finish too the family day weekend. They didn't just get the truck; but my Ski Doo, ramps, all my ice fishing gear and a lot more. Cops found it 10 days latter out on the Res; stripped to the bones. Again sorry to hear and know your pain and the feeling of what the hell why me. Dan.
  2. Here's a way to test the cables without having to remove them. Connect a voltmeter between (like in the pic) the switch positive and the device positive. The reading on the meter should show 0 (zero). Now turn the device on and read the voltage on the meter. Whatever the reading is, is the voltage lost passing through the cable. Rule of thumb is .25 (1/4) volt maximum. This is called a voltage drop test; a resistance test on a live circuit. In the picture I'm showing that the green wire is being tested. Anything near or above this 1/4 volt would be considered hight resistance. Which could be caused by a bad connection, bad or undersized wire. The voltmeter can be moved/connected anywhere in the circuit; including the ground side of; same rules apply. Dan
  3. So with accessory battery not being charges buy the engine; you need to increase your power capacity. A second battery, that can be located anywhere on the boat. A minimum of 12 gauge or larger cables between the two.. Dan
  4. If all our electronics are running normally, with them all on (Until voltage drops) the wire size to them are fine. I would put an ammeter between all out going current from the battery; turn all equipment on. Record that value and then connect the ammeter between in coming charge current from the engine's charging system. If the voltage used is above the charging systems capacity; you will slowly drain the battery, The charging system just cannot keep up to the demand. If I'm correct in this thinking; you have a couple of options. See if there are larger or more charge coils that could be added to the engine's charging system. Or add a second accessory battery, wired in parallel. Kind of like hooking booster cables between to cars. With the second battery, you will still eventually drain both batteries; but that'll give you twice the capacity and time to run all your electronics. There would be another test I would perform; move the ammeter from the battery's charge wire to the engine's output charge wire. If there is a 5 or 6 amp difference between the two; you could try a larger cabling between the charging output too the accessory battery. Without doing the tests; I believe you'r just using more voltage then the engine's system can replenish. Dan.
  5. If for some reason you're stuck with this supplier; get an auto switching regulator installed. Tee in a 75 or 100lb tank and when the main tank runs empty; it'll automatically start drawing from the reserve smaller tank. When both tanks (main & reserve) are full, you use a mechanical switch; telling the reg which tank to draw from. When that tank runs low (not empty) the reg with switch to the other tank. There will also be a red indicator, showing that you're now drawing from the reserve. This gives you time to tell your supplier to get their ass out to you and fill your tanks. Dan.
  6. I know I'd miss this old Chevy; she's at the spaw (body shop) this winter, having a face lift, Built in Oshawa in 1950; by Canadians for Canadians. Heaters were an option that was only offered in the Canadian plants. In the States, a heater was a dealer installed option. LOL Dan.
  7. Forrest Gump. If so the key is------------ LOL Dan
  8. I can't make it this weekend; my treatment this week has kicked the crap out of me. Next weekend (Family day weekend?) not even the big C is keeping me off the lake. Dan..
  9. Casey's have been around and you should be fine? Please give us a report. If it's real bad, PM me and I'll give you the GPS cords to my hut and where the key is, Leave my Gibsons alone. LOL Unless it's for medicinal purposes. Dan.
  10. I'm pretty sure most operators are doing their best to keep their huts on fish. I was out there Monday afternoon and watched at least both Hales ( Tim's and Floyd's (putz) ) moving their huts. Me not being from the area: I move my hut with-in an 1/8 of a mile of them. We did that Saturday and like I said they moved again; back to damn near close to where we were before moving. LOL I know this doesn't answer your Casey's question but you'll likely be fine; if the fish are there that day? Dan.
  11. Yeah you're right; if I was breaking the by-law two nights in a row; why wasn't it towed? Now that would have been a true piss off! Oh then another charge for driving the quad through town looking for the truck! LOL Dan.
  12. X2 If you buy one of these you need deep pockets, just to feel you can trust it to get your butt back home; let alone being fun. Been in the trade for a lot of years and 90% of the time that a customer buys an older top end car; it turns into a disaster for them. I don't know the acronym for these cars' but I bet it's close to a big pleasure BOAT. "Break Out Another Thousand" Dan.
  13. Now that it has been a couple days afterwards; I can kind of understand the towns thinking, If it were a free for all parking, it would be hell for everyone. There is free parking on top the hill at the community center and there's another lot, just to the left; before going down the hill to Harbour Park Crescent.. So yeah unknowingly I was in the wrong, leaving my truck there overnight. Still doesn't explain why I only received one ticket for the two nights there and that the lot wasn't plowed on the third morning my truck was there? It was likely parking enforcement looking to fill a quota and I was easy pickings. LOL Like I said earlier, I'm still going back and enjoy the fishing off of the easy access of Beaverton. School costs money and I've just paid for a lesson? Dan.
  14. Not sure about schools of smelt but the few I got; got my mouth watering for a feed. As it was it turned out to be a mixed pan of fish. I call it a wonder meal; what fish (in a potato chowder) is this I'm tasting? LOL Dan
  15. Yes OK I got a parking ticket, for leaving my truck in the middle of Harbour "Park" Crescent parking lot; in Beaverton. We have always parked our vehicles there; just as everyone else has, that will fit in the area, I actually left the truck there Sunday and Monday nights (Slept in the hut); but the ticket was written at 9:45 Tuesday morning? The reason on the ticket was for snow removal obstruction. Bull the lot wasn't plowed at all, it hadn't snowed enough to warrant a plow? I'm from London and have no idea of un-posted by-laws; but there are no signs stating no overnight parking. Does this towns officials not realize the income out of town people bring into their community? Us for example don't bring any supplies with us; we get it all there. We buy our groceries, booze, fuel and whatever shopping we need right there in town. The thank you I get, is a $30.00 fine for obstructing snow removal; that was never even done? Sorry for the rant; but this is also a warning for others. Even after this rant; I will be going back. The fishing was decent and I had a great time out there with my family. They all left Sunday afternoon and I stayed on my own until Tuesday afternoon. There were no jumbo perch to brag about; but the numbers were good, I will be moving the hut next time out; most of the operators have moved out of the area; that we are in. Looks like they've gone deeper again. On Saturday we moved from 34 FOW down/up? to 28 FOW; the fishing picked up but they were all small perch. Did manage a couple of Cisco and a few smelt; but again nothing the brag about. Dan.
  16. Yeah there's a number of businesses moving out that way. Princess Auto has opened their new store, across from Costco (Kitty corner); supposedly a lot bigger and hopefully more organized? MY wife calls Princess Auto the MANS Avon store. LOL Dan.
  17. Cliff. Pull the trigger and we'll be out there. Bring something to snack on or throw on the BBQ is all you need! PM me Cliff and I'll let you know where the key is and the disarm switch is; for the unwanted. The season isn't that long and what way to get to know someone;other then in an ice fishing hut Dan,
  18. I was just out on Simcoe's perch grounds. I have a Jiffy and an older Eskimo auger; I left the Jiffy at home. The Eskimo has never failed to start, with very little effort'; the Jiffy needs to be fused with, once going it's fine. Out on Long Point Bay, a week ago, we had a guy stop at our spot and showed us his electric drill assembly. Looked every impressive, other then that the battery died half way through drilling a 6 inch hole: through 6 inches of ice? OK It could be just his equipment; but gas and horsepower still has it's edge on electric. This is just my opinion on this: there's so many things that make electric appealing; But I'm still hauling gas out and drill as many holes as we want. Dan.
  19. There's nothing better then being out, catching a few and having fun with a friend! The smile on your face says it all. Nice vid! Dan.
  20. This thread reminds me of a trip about 20+ years ago. Ice fishing Nipissing and we (10 of us) caught a number of pike through out the day. They were all frozen stiff as a board; laying on the ice. Get back to the cottage and through them in the bath tub to thaw; before cleaning them, My son and his buddy who were 6 or 7 then and they couldn't let the fish alone. We're out in the kitchen playing cards and all of a sudden both boys came running and screaming "they're alive they're alive". Sure enough 6 of the 10 or 12 fish in the tube were swimming and quite pissed off. LOL How do you explain that to a 6 year old? "Dad you said they were dead and ready for cleaning" Sorry son they will be shortly! Dan.
  21. Very nice! I don't have the patience to set up and video my on goings; kudos to you and all the others here posting their adventures! I'm just a lowly perch fisher; but am planing to have my 10X7 hut out on Simcoe this Saturday. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME; I ENJOYED IT. Dan.
  22. Not sure what that means OI but the invite is what it is. Anyone is welcome and if a low life decides to try anything to the hut; they'll have a shocking surprise. If you don't know where the disarm switch is; you'll know what a taser feels like!!! Yeah I could get into trouble but the hut is mine, so screw off thieves. Plus a little high voltage with minimal amperage; will only cause them to flop around on the ice; just like a freshly caught fish. After a couple of minutes they'll be able to walk or crawl away. LOL How to load a capacitor; 1 0 1; you can take the course; there's nothing better then a DIY project. LOL. Dan.
  23. A nice way to end a morning's fish. Going to try and plant my hut out on the the perch grounds, between Gorgina and Thorah islands; next weekend. I start treatment this coming Thursday and if it doesn't kick the crap out of me; I'll be out there. So if you're anywhere near and see big blue, with the Canadian Flag on the door; you know you're welcome for a warm up and a ( hot or cold) beverage. That goes for anyone else that want to knock on the door. Dan.
  24. Nice! Thanks for the report. Dan.
