Thanks fellas that was the answer I was looking for the vehicle pass is $100 and the boat is another $100 it appears. I was hoping those would be the final costs and not have to pay for each person as well.
-
In my area is a 4 park network of conservation areas. if I buy a vehicle and boat pass, is there additional fees for each person I can't seem to find the info if there are more costs once at the gate. if anyones aware of how these park fees go please let me know. BTW its $100 each for car and boat for the season.

Its not a pleasing approach to save money, many fisherman rely on the paper regs.....oh but maybe its a trap...its a money supply tactic with the possibility of more fines. Our municipality wants to save money by removing street signs, they say you should already know where your going to go before you go. You can look it up on your smart phone while driving also.....maybe thats a trap also? One street sign must cost as much as 700 copies of regs to print, oh but wait we have a crown corporation for printing also. Its a poor example of money crunching in my opinion, some bean counter thats never fished or cared about fishing in his life possibly.

Hold that thought just found the 2014 GGGS for 2014 online and looks as if they are going to be cutting way down on moose tags..3/4 of the areas have no guarantee regardless of group size
-
Yes they seem to come online before they go to print. I did notice last years were april12th just wondering if anyone knew a actual date. I am interested in finding GGS for moose. You can start buying tags and appplying I believe, but would like to know if we should apply for a bull or cow. We all know how much logic goes into the moose tag allocation and being able to read the regs SOMEWHERE would be helpful....

Anyone know when they will be available?

Congratulations, Hunting is a signicant talent to practice and learn in my books. Respect your weapon and its direction/backdrop, Respect Nature, and Respect Landowners. You do those things, you will have a lifetime of fun. Someone will take you under their wing a bit, thats the hunter way.

Pretty much all my hunting is done within a 5-6 mile radius of the city dump. This seems to keep the coyotes pretty lazy in this neck of the woods apparently. Turkeys they don't bother with, the yotes keep going. I hunt the coyotes a little. have taken 5. Went out this year and though there was some tracks was unable to call one in. IMO the snow amount doesn't give any advantage to a coyote on the hunt for much. I would give the edge to the deer and turkeys actually with deep snow. The snow definetly gives me an advantage though for what ever I am hunting....or wait a sec....does it..? 3 inches sure does but 30" not much.because I don't bother.
-
In my experience the coyotes don't bother with the turkey's. They just keep on marching by them. You never hear about them yotes bothering geese either and those things are everywhere around here. Rabbits beware though obviously.

Thats what alot of the reviews said also , and led me to the PQ bibs. I hate getting my "junk" wet every fall while atv'n to moose camp. also the biggest difference apparently in the 100mph to the Pro Q is the PQ is much easier to P out of. The front zipper is longer or something? I ordered mine online and had to go by the reviews, so i have no first hand experience. no rain test yet for my bibs but they do cut the winter winds nice. The cabela suit sounds sweet at that 50-60% off price in the u.s. also
-
Go for a drive, most farmers are pretty nice guys and like cheques. Maybe your local sled' atv dealer has a spot or knows someone who does.

The large groups here, have started busting up. Have seen some courting going on, but the hens are not playing ..yet. we had a large group of 100+ all winter. The group is about 20 birds now. They have started there disappearing act IMO, they are still there. Me gonna eat one!!!!

I was looking at those tonite and did not grab one. I was going to ask if anyone had tried them out? I have a BPS pro Q bibs and a Columbia coat right now. Wasn't sure if I should grab a bps pq coat. The costco coat and pants made me wonder if that would be the way to go for a proper rain coat.

Any thoughts on Canadian Health Care System?
mcdougy replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
It's called the "nurse curse". They have seen and heard of all the strangest, horrific scenarios people are dealt, and try to protect their family from it. My wife suffers bad. Bless her soles and soul. For me the strangest thing is sometimes questioning if I should give her that kiss and hug in the doorway because she's been "exposed" for the last 13 or so hours to all that sickness. I know it's wrong but still can't help but wonder what's crawling all over her. -
Any thoughts on Canadian Health Care System?
mcdougy replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
My wife is a RN in the Critical Care trauma centre (intensive care) here in London. She was bedside for 17 years in CCTC and recently moved to be a coordinator of this same department. Health care is a daily topic for us. Sometimes heated between us. Here is some interesting thoughts for some. I have seen my wife 8 times on Christmas Day in the last 17 years. She wakes at 5am and out the door by 6:15am , returning home by 8pm at the earliest if on day shift. She is wiped out when she gets home. When on nite shift she would get home at 8 am and get to bed at 9:30ish am because these where her mornings to spend with the kids then wake at 3 pm to get kid from school. It was. A 2 week day/ nite rotation also working every other weekend. Needless to say to some, we passed through the door with a kiss a lot of days. NP . sacrifices were made by us both and that's what life is about. Sometimes I would be envious that her devotion to her job was supersedeing ME and the family. She is there for a reason, she likes/wants to help people. Many of her days become very emotional with the family of the sick/dying. She cries a lot at work due to passion to fix/help. A lot of cases are tragic and almost always unexpected for the families. She is payed very well for this and should be. Her retirement is bright. I think it is a general regard by nurses that many doctors could be a lot better/smarter. Here in london, the hospitals are teaching facilities for the university of western. She comments on how money is wasted due to the teaching element. She claims "they" are willing to try many extra procedures/drugs in order to keep someone technically alive. Sometimes these procedures lead to life support equipment in order to carry them out. Once a person is "hooked" up , the end can be endless. Prolonged ends are very expensive. Also there are many times when a doctor is ready to stop further procedures and it is the family who wants "everything" done. Some people refuse that the "end" has come. Once the hospital/staff is told do everything, they must. Many drugs cost thousands of dollars , operations in the tens of thousands, CCTC is one nurse to every patient, the cost of a bed per day without anything is very high in her environment. And we as people are sometimes "running" the bill up to astronomical values. As a coordinator she now experiences how few resources there are throughout the system. Mainly staff. The government is trying to hire less qualified people at a lower cost, which helps in some situations, but hinders in a lot more. Quality of care can suffer and wait times. I voice my opinion as a taxpayer often with her. She often agrees, and says with a system so big "the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing". As far as emergency rooms go, we have all been there and can see what "appears" to be going on. Patients waiting, some staff working hard, some staff "petting the dog" . In reality we have NO idea what's going on and causing the wait time and the staff have their hands tied because they can not get a patient out of ER to another bed because their is no staff available in another department. The cardiac department is "full" the ortho dept. is "full" the medicine floor is "full"....... This is why you wait. The poor guy comes in having a heart attack. ER staff is obligated to treat him first(access and stabilize) The ER does this and calls the cardiac unit to accept the patient. They cannot because they are full. The cardiac unit is full because they have a patient that is ready to go to "the floor" or medicine dept. The medicine dept is full and cannot accept the cardiac patient. And so on and so on. And you sit and wait for many hours with your not so "important" problem, while the ER staff has to tend to the guy with the heart attack that's not moving because there is a staffing problem. We all get sick and hurt, and generally we all get better. Unfortunately wait times and the hospital system is more than likely not going to improve any time soon unless even more money is spent on it. I know I feel I don't want to pay more taxes than I do now. So the equation is much larger then fixing health care with less money. Family doctors is a evolving scene also. I'm yet to decide on wether it is heading in the right direction. I seem to have to go for several appointments for some simple things. I'm sure they are getting paid per visit. As a tax payer I'm on guard to this philosophy. My mechanic fixes several things at once..just sayin. But I truly do not know the pay breakdown from ohip to my doctor. -
I know what your saying and have a tough time writing the cheques without cursing a little under my breath. In this case as well, but at the same time, since the fact it is a homemade stove wont go away forever, the way I am looking at it is : This will be safer hopefully and up to "code" I could yell scream and get ticked off, but thats not going to get me too far in this situation unfortuneatly/fortuneately. and I don't want anyones butt burnt from a fire.
-
Yes, we realize that WETT may be needed and thats not to big of a concern, as Fire SAFETY is a primary concern for all of us. Your reminding me of an insurance agent I may know/ have known. You can do it right in that budget IMO with a used stove, were not gaining value/performance from purchasing a brand new one. Also Irish is correct in saying that although it is no palace it is insured for a replacement value of 178k. 2 years ago they had it at 190k. Were not too worried about the structure,it can be rebuilt. Its the liability aspect that is wanted/needed. You sound like my inner self. All of these thingshave been talked about and are being considered. Our coverage is good until feb 2015. But their wanting pics of the existing setup and ulc tags. We could play games but are going to buck up and meet their needs. Everything for propane is already in place and plumbed safely. As well as wired for generator hook up. The place is in the middle of the woods and it seems kinda silly not to utilize the wood for heat especially. I am there for approx. 28 days a year, so cutting that small amount of wood is kind of fun and not much work on a sunday. Thanks all for your ideas and experiences with different makes/situations. Keep them coming. Matt

Do you use the oven much? We probably cook with the current oven 3-4 nites in the week. But I have no experience. I guess it wouldn't use much more than a BBQ.
-
Insurance company is after our group. We have/had a homebuilt woodstove/oven in our 1000sqft camp for the last 20 years. "They" are requiring something with a CSA/ULC tag on it, to continue ins. coverage. I was wondering what stove you folks would reccomend, and or the type/brand to stay away from? We use it as the only heat source, Keeping a pot of water warm, and the oven on the current stove is the only place we use to cook roasts and such. We are hoping to keep the cost under $1000. Have looked at some of the "cookstoves" but I am concerned in their capability to heat the camp? And wether you have to feed them wood REALLY often due to the small firebox? There is a propane cook top in camp, but are trying to stay away from going to a propane oven as this camp is in the middle of no-where with no services. All propane is hand carried in on ATV's and boats and I was concerned a p. oven would use a fair bit of propane in the 1 and 2 week stays we have. (moose and deer) Let me know what you have or would try? sidenote: Annual insurance premium keeps slightly rising as they keep putting the replacement value of the camp lower....Bull!!! Cheers MM

Mortgage Advice - Break and pay and sign at lower rate? = save?
mcdougy replied to Entropy's topic in General Discussion
Are you thinking of whole new mortgage or just resigning your 5 year term? New mortgage is extremely interest heavy in the beginning meaning you pay little to no principle. Getting out of your term and resigning a new term is more than likely a wash if there is a penalty. IMO I would consider going variable for a bit for a larger gain if possible, there may be no penalty for doing so. Set up a appointment, talk with the bank, get them to show you the advantages/disadvantages to certain scenarios. then go to bat and ask for a bit more if it seems appropriate. They will put the math in front of you. Take it home and check it out before signing anything.
