We are looking to locate this spring, pretty well anywhere here in Ontario or out east to Nova Scotia as she has family there, anywhere west isn't in the budget besides I don't like it west of Ontario. My Lady has been house hunting online and showed me a little place called Wallaceburg near Lake St. Clare. It looks to have 3 rivers or big creeks run into town and many inland lakes and as I said close to LSC where the fishing is great. About 3 hours to the GTHNA ( Greater Toronto/Hamilton Niagara Area) where most of our families are. Anyone here know anything about Wallaceburg and it's fishing, sure looks promising. Plus side is that properties are up to 80% less than around the TO/Hamilton area for the same homes. Thanks.

We are looking at possible places to relocate to this spring. Anywhere in Canada really. My wife told me about of a place called Wallaceburg. I asked where is it? She said a few miles from Lake St. Clair. I said OK lets move there I don't need to see the house.

Good you man. Do you wear a survival suit this time of year fishing solo?

2019-2020 Hockey Thread
Old Ironmaker replied to DRIFTER_016's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
I'm haven't been a Hockey fan since I was a kid and up until they built the state of the art arena in Hamilton and was denied a NHL team. The Habs were my team and the Leafs a close second because a neighbours Uncle played, Don Awrey. I do read your posts here though and it is nice to see both the passion for your teams and the hockey knowledge here is amazing. Most any of you guys could be talking heads on the tube and fit in well. -
Elderly neigbours. ya gotta love them.

Get each kid to pack and carry a box of their own stuff and I bet they have stuff. 3 trips is 33 boxes. Leave the fridge and stove to the oldest kids. -

Where did you move to, California? 4 days is a big move. Did you jack up the house and move it too? Did you build that 6 bedroom home? -

One time when we moved the food and booze was more than hiring a mover, then you have to pay back the favour to boot. You have to crunch the numbers. $200.00 in Chinese food for lunch, plus the case or more of brew, just for lunch and that was in 86'. Make note, no booze for the crew until the move is over. More than a few of the boys had to spend the night and then we started all over the next morning. My former wife wasn't impressed to say the least. Good times you will never forget. -
I think out of line is a bit harsh Wayne. It was you that questioned the integrity of the plane above. I quote "Yep , the Icon A5 kills another needlessly." You said that not me and taking your experience into consideration I took that to mean this thing isn't safe. I misunderstood your view obviously. I've been around a while too and at 25 years old had to go to a friends Mom's and kid brother and sisters home to tell them I just identified their loved ones body on the side of the road after a car accident coming out of the plant, I waited for the Police to accompany me and they never showed up, not even latter that night, December 13th 1979 4:15 PM. I was as well the G.F. from the department that went with H.R. the Police and a Minister to a co workers home to notify them that their husband was killed on the job because I knew the families well, twice. We all have tragedies we can recount but would rather forget Sir. If I offended you it wasn't my intent. It was my intent to vent when I hear of what I feel is a needless death. I won't apologize for my personal opinion.

Work,,,,,,,,,,,,,work? Come on man, work? Get out there before those red locks start getting a tad white. I think we should get a pension from age 21 until we are 55, then go to work until we drop dead on the job.

I won't comment let alone criticise on how Mr. Halliday was flying because I don't know. I do know that you wouldn't let a 16 year old that just got their licence let loose on a public road or track in that Bugatti Supercar that can hit the same speeds as a Formula 1 and Indy car. I think that is a fair comparison in my mind.

Nothing like a nice 1" slice of cold corned beef out of the can with those gobs of fat in it on Wonder Bread and catsup. I do buy stuff at Punjabi Market in Stoney Creek that has a small sticker on the can, jar or pouch that is in a language I don't know. Like the package above of whatever it is in Russian, I think it might be Russian. I love when the package has a sticker on it that says in English: 1) cook cut up meat with spice 2) add 1/2 a bowl of water 3) add ingredient 4) cook more It turned out to be Paprikas or Hungarian Goulash and it is very, very good. It is called "fant gulas i paprikas." Try it if you can find it. The meat would be cubed and browned pork.

No problem Sir Cranks, like I said I may take some artistic license in some of my tales to keep the readers attention but what makes them interesting I think is that they are all true. We are after all fishermen. Known to stretch the truth and the size of any particular catch. The other day my pal Louis had a good one, he was telling us how big the Perch he got this year and held his hands about 16 inches apart, come on Louis a 16" Perch? He says, "16 inches? That was the distance between it's eyes." I am confined to quarters for a few days so I need to keep myself entertained or I will go stir crazy that and zero alcohol with anti-biotics. And my Buffalo Bills are getting massacred by New Orleans and I can't stand to watch it.

No we shouldn't ban all sports cars only the ones that explode in flames when hit from the rear as they did the Chevy Corvair in the 60's and another that I think was a Ford that had the same issues, Mavericks I think, someone here remembers. We shouldn't ban all sports planes either, just the one that have claimed 3 lives in the past month. Like I said I can't quantify the ratio of crashes to flight hours of the Icon A5. That number would be interesting to see. This sports aircraft has a very limited number of them in the air and an unusually high number of crashes. Yes they should be grounded and if found to be unsafe to fly banned. I agree 110% that proper training, maintenance attitude and respect for any machine makes it safer to operate but the Icon A5 was marketed to be flown irresponsibly in my opinion. It might all be a moot point as this company is most likely going out of business. With all the recent crashes and bad press whom in their right mind will buy one now?

There are many OFC members here that served. I know many that were in the military don't like to toot their own horns so to speak, you should. It would be nice for you guys to give us the what, when and where you served on this thread, please.

Anyone own one of these Kodi boxes?
Old Ironmaker replied to DRIFTER_016's topic in General Discussion
I didn't see this last week Smitty. Thanks I will struggle through it. I guess what I was horribly trying to say was I can't even post a photo let alone do everything required to use Kodi. I imagine I can pay someone to set it up for me, sometimes you have to know your limitations and just pay that "guy". -
Bonus. If I went Musky fishing yesterday I would have caught a cold.

You can't, simple as that. 20 years comes a lot faster than you would think. Around here you can't build a simple garage for 80 bucks a square foot for materials alone. A basic no frills cabin would be similar. My 4'X8' 2x3" wall stud board and baton lean-to was $700.00 in materials, no insulation. What about water and septic?

Guys that are usually out fishing on a nice Saturday are reading and posting on OFC.

This maniac just won't quit. He has been suspended by NBC, he should be cleaning out the cage he works in by Monday morning, I hope. There is enough hate in this world no one needs to listen to this animal, and they pay him to do it! An article that appeared today in part. “Was it Dale Earnhardt who died? The race car driver who died? I root for the wall. I really do. That ain’t no tragedy ... I’m supposed to feel bad for you? Give me a break. Oh God,” he sai NBC Sports Boston has since suspended Felger from going on air through Sunday, according to the Boston Herald. Felger traditionally hosts the New England Patriots pre- and postgame shows, though he won't be doing either for this Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos. NBC Sports released the following statment regarding Felger's comments: “As a result of his insensitive comment about Roy Halladay and Dale Earnhardt on Wednesday, Michael Felger will not appear on NBC Sports Boston, effective immediately through Sunday. While we don’t have editorial control of the content of his radio show, which we simulcast, Felger’s comments are not representative of our network’s views or standards.”

You are right G.Mech, again. I only use Shell Pro V in the boat now. Plus I add STP. (please don't use STP if you find an old can of it.) I wonder if they still flog it? It worked great in my 63' Pontiac Parisiene.

There is a large area locally that people lease land here where several cottages are on, Featherstone Point. They fall under the same laws that trailer parks are on but with longer lease terms. The tenants must vacate from Dec 31st until April 1st. There has been very few problems there even after ownership changed last year. There are homes there now that are separate from the leased land, but the owner of Featherstone owns the right of way. It could be a mess for those that own the land and homes for a number of reasons. There are rumours but just rumours about the new owner selling lots for development. He is sitting on millions of waterfront if it happens. There is also a similar tract of land on the Grand River with small cottages and trailers. That land was sold and a battle ensued between the tenants and the new owner. The agreements were nublious. The new owner had deeper pockets than the tenants. The tenants lost and either moved their places or demolished them and paid to take them to land fill. Personally I would never enter into one of these land/lease agreements. A contract is only as good as the lawyer of the guy with the deepest pockets. We considered it when we bought here. I could have bought 5 places there for the price we paid here 21 years back. A very nice waterfront cottage there goes for 100K now, maybe if you can find a buyer. Many have been trying to sell for years but can't get what they put into it.

I am remiss in not thanking all those that have served and those that serve today.

Wow, that must have been neat to see and feel. When there were real airshows we saw the Blue Angels go overhead, and I mean right above us. Low enough you could see the pilots. It was the day after the T.O. airshow. Being on the lakeshore we see all manner of aircraft fly by. I guess they use the shoreline to navigate.

Until someone faces the same circumstances you don't know what you would do. You would think the first thing would be for at least someone to jump in the water instead of narrating with foul language. There wasn't fire to contend with. Stress and shock makes people do strange things. Some will run into a fire to try and save a life but most will run away. The video guy and his crew should remain nameless for their own good but I can't be too critical here. Hopefully Ray Halliday was killed instantly and didn't drown while conscious. I hope that that company goes under and I am positive it will go under and never sell one of these weapons again. They should be ashamed to market them the way they have. The number of crashes to hours in the air must be an astronomical ratio. Any of these things still out there should be grounded immediately and permanently.

It sounded like we were being invaded today here. It chocked me up a bit. I can tell the sound of the Lanc. but not any others, maybe a Blackhawk chopper, they are distinctive. Can you imagine a few dozen Lancaster's or more of them overhead, I can't. It must have been terrorizing if you were on the wrong side of them. Frost and fishing for me don't exist any longer unless in a nice warm hut, maybe a heated 35 footer.
