Chad, I would love to learn how to grow edible shrooms, not the BC seeing pink Elephants strain! It is very damp here on the lake, also there is a woodlot out back that is very wet and shaded. I can't bring you any veggies but could arrange a gallon of homemade wine to make it your way.

From the house to the shop out back. But seriously I did an hour and a half for a few years back and it was enough for me to give up my share of the business. There wasn't any 400 series highways I could take so all 80k back country roads from here to Niagara in winter as well. Just became too dangerous for me after a 10 or 12 hour day. We all have our tolerances and I believe it would be a personal choice. I have a brother that commutes the 403to TO from Hamilton and sits in traffic for hours, no way no how I could stand that. As long as I'm moving I'm OK, sitting in traffic seems to be a waste of precious time.

What a little piece of heaven there. Too much maintenance for me to handle with my bones now. If I could I'd show a picture of our yard. It is about 60KMS deep, our rear neighbours are in NY. We live on Lake Erie. A bass trip takes me about 20 seconds to get to my favorite spot. And maintenance free!

A school passed through and you were there when they did. You didn't mention species but I'm going to guess Pics. You can guess which way they are heading and follow them like some do here for perch on Erie, you need to be a good guesser or be really good with the electronics.

Water in the gas from the filling station X 2. Had it happen too many times from old stations up north as well as the US off the beaten track. Once had a carb freeze solid outside of Blue Mountain on old 27. Had to chip it off with a ski pole. It happens, not as much today but back then often. It's a good habit to keep tanks full always.

You can launch at the top end of the lake at Burliegh Falls, can't help with an Crown Land island.

fishindevil, that makes my decision even tougher, thanks. That area is on my bucket list to fish, plus we want to visit Eganville, we haven't been through there since the church steeple burned down, sad.

When I finally learn to post a pic and make a photo an electronic file I can show all a almost 8'er that washed found on shore floundering. It was held up by a backhoe bucket to take the photo that I took and accompanied an article for our local weekly. It's funny the kids all said there was a monster fish in the area they saw when swimming, they were right after all.

Yes I will stay with the kicker. Now I might have to shift funds I don't have for other toys for this fishing thing I don't need.

Man I thought finding place would be a breeze,,,, no way. There are just so many great places at reasonable rates it isn't so easy. What a beautiful place we live in, especially for someone who loves the outdoors. The tread on the bucket list for wishful fishing spots is steeped with areas outside of Ontario, including me, it's crazy to go elsewhere considering what's right here within a days drive from T.O.

Hey all, The head waters of Erie hold Musky, big Musky as does LSC at the other end and the Detroit river, in large numbers as well in LSC. Mike knows about the St. Clair where I bet he limits out on those monsters! With all the Musky baitfish like just about everything from Gobies to Walleye and just about everything in between I always wondered why we don't see Musky anywhere in that massive body of water between the east and west ends? Regan you can give me all your stuff when we come up if everything goes as planned.

There is a good deal of security knowing I have a back up if I need it with the kicker, I did need it this year once, actually first time out with the new to me kicker, and she did 6MPH in 1 meter rollers, battery dead on big girl there was just enough to turn over the 15. Forgot I'm not charging anything with the kicker and with all the electronics on she died, plus the battery although new did have a problem. It shouldn't have died but that stuff happens out there. Proctors replaced the 1 year new no questions asked. We figure a good rule of thumb here is a mile per 10 feet, so it's 10 miles to get to 100 feet where the fish should be this time of year. 5 miles out and we are only at 48 feet at Nanticoke Shoal. The consensus talking with guys at the marina and the local watering hole is a 80lb won't do it, maybe a 100 for 3 or 4 hours. No one around here has tried it. If I have to spend for a 100lb thrust, and I'm almost afraid to look at the price, I keep the kicker on and buy 2 new deep cells for the 55. Thanks guys for the info, I appreciate your input. JD

I've heard great things re: 80 lb. thrust 24V bow mounted electrics. I have a 24V 55lb. Motorguide that I call the hood ornament as I never use it now. I don't fish back bays, the river or structure as I have gotten the long lining bug here on Erie. Nothing like a limit of 8 pound plus Pics and a few bonus Bows to switch from Smallies real fast. I have a 15 horse 2 stroke Merc, electric start with throttle and shifter control mounted right now. I'm thinking if a 80 pound 24V will do what the kicker does trolling on the big water I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone, plus I can get $1200.00 all day long for the mint kicker and controls I can put towards a new electric and a few bucks for the 55lb Motorguide with wireless foot controller. The elec. will do it on glass like water but I need to run it hard and the batteries don't last long. I have a 19' StarCraft Superfisherman 190 with a 115 Merc. 2 stroke the 15 HP kicker, full windshield, front and rear casting platform. I don't know the gross weight of the boat, it is heavy. Will these 80lb thrust electrics replace the kicker? I have read there are 100lb electrics out there now, big bucks though. It is big water with the big winds and waves. We will troll up to 3 MPH at times. Is it doable realistically? Thanks Johnny D

Google Larry Mellors, he is the Grand River trout Guru. It might be a little late notice but if he gets your email he will bend over backwards to get you onto the fish. He sells at Proctor Marine during the summer as he teaches and has summers off, he may be there, give him a call at the Marine as well.

Riggers rather than dipsy's X2 here Bill. Planner boards over Dipsy's any day for me. I have never had anything good happen with #1's. If not set up it's like reeling in a fridge from 200 yards out. I gave my 1's away. I would love to just be able to run a Dipsy lately. Winds here on Erie have been in the high 20's to 50 KPH for the last 3 weeks. Fishing the Grand for 2 pound Pics isn't going to cut it when limits of 8 pound eaters were not uncommon up to 3 weeks ago. Talk about spoiled.

Since we are talking records what is the record herein Ontario and the World Record, same fish? I remember a lot of guys talking at the plant about that Moon River Musky in the 80's maybe. Why is the record in question Musky and Specks? That Musky that is on the street corner in Ganonaque (sic) is pretty big. I told the kids it was real. The 100 foot Catfish in Dunnville is real! If anyone here has ever participated in a sport like full contact hockey and football or had a job like a combat soldier, even a steelworker or miner in the pre Health and Safety days, where adrenalin and other chemicals are bombarding the brain, heart rates hit above 140, muscles are spent and very little 02 is getting to the blood and brain, you will understand why people will unconsciously do crazy things. Like biting the ear off of another Boxer to something stupid like hammering your opponent over the head with a hockey stick in front of the referee and a national television audience. A pitcher throws a 97 MPH fastball at a batters head, if he hits the mark the batters career can be done, his life actually. If you have been in that state of body and mind you know what I mean. Those that haven't are called Monday morning quarterbacks. I truly believe this might be another example of a person that may have been in that state of body and mind that turned tragi, I reiterate, might be.. I am not saying this was the case in this tragedy. I am saying people will do things unconsciously they would never normally do because they can not help it. For someone to say a pro would never put another in harms way doesn't know of what they speak because it happens with more regularity than you can imagine.

Not being a Musky guy I'm going to say West Arm of Nippissing, you like that one Regan? What's wrong with Skugog? That's were I caught, by mistake of course, my one and only giant in 82'. It is hanging on my wall, did that back then. Had to tip the scales at 22 pounds!!! It is a Tiger Musky, does that count? My big Musky story, you know I'd have one, was a sighting when I started fishing on a day trip to Port Severn from Hamilton. We had rented a 12' tinny and I saw this green thing swimming towards the side of the boat. I yelled to Mr. Stringer to look over the side, he saw the head while I could still see the tail. I could I.D. three fish then, a Great White, I saw the movie, a Sunny, was an expert at 8 years old, and a Northern, a hammer handle was my first game fish on my Popiel Pocket Fisherman. I thought this monster was a Pike, my buddy confirmed it was indeed a Muskellunge, which I had never heard of before. Quite the argument on the way home from the other 2 guys. They didn't see it but guaranteed it was a Sturgeon. All I knew was I never wanted to catch one after seeing it, and my wish has come true so far if Tiger doesn't count.
