  1. It would only have coast you $21 an hour had you watched the job being done, Simon.
  2. Excellent as always, Larry. Thanks.
  3. A little difficult to answer without knowing how far you're willing to travel and where your starting point is. Do you have a boat and what size is it. Do you want day trips or camping/lodging......
  4. Great report Dan! Y'all did well in spite of your looks eh? Some really nice fish there. I think Matt's fish is fizzing.
  5. Looks like fun times, Ben. Thanks for the link Darren.
  6. So we've established they have power.
  7. Good luck. Stay with the bass. Manitoucarp sounds sick.
  8. I've never seen "corn" wood.
  9. Hard to miss a 53 foot float.
  10. Hey it's not rocket science. It's a fuse/breaker on the red wire of your trolling motor as close to the battery as convenient. That all!
  11. It doesn't have everything to do with which is a good or bad day. Get yourself a book or two by John Alden Knight. It's an interesting science how it all works together...Lunar phases, solar influence, weather, barometric pressure etc.. Mike, fishing was supposed tom "suck" yesterday. Take a look at the tables and look up yesterday's 2 major and 2 minor lunar activities.
  12. Congrats on your first, Matt. Some folks have been muskie fishing for decades and still wish they'd handled the last catch a little differently. Don't take it as a personal affront. Keep posting of your fishing adventures and be proud of each one. You'll find that in addition to learning sound fishing techniques you'll also learn about human behaviour. It's educational. Keep on fishing and sharing your adventures.
  13. What Connie said. Connie and Thorpe are two people who know of what they speak when it comes to barometric pressure and lunar phases.
  14. Where are you headed to, roughly. Maybe I can help you with where to get the license and open/close hours.
  15. non-resident rates are as follows 1 day- $12.49 3 days- $27.52 7 days- $42.31 year- $63.21 And this, taken from the 2011 regulations. If I am 18 or over, who can fish under my licence? your spouse; your children (as well as those of your spouse) who are under 18; your children (as well as those of your spouse) who are between 18 and 24 and who have a valid student's card in their possession. These persons, except for your children (or those of your spouse) under 18, must have your licence on hand if you are not accompanying them. Different conditions can apply in the case of an Atlantic salmon sportfishing licence (see publication Salmon sportfishing in Québec). Can other persons fish under my licence? any person under 18; any student from 18 to 24 who has his valid student's card. However, these persons must fish under your supervision or that of your spouse. edited to add: Yes you can also purchase your license from S.A.I.L. but there are only 3 stores and all are in the Montreal region. Find a tackle/bait shop along the way, plenty of CTC's as well.
  16. This particular spot runs 3'- 4' fow with no current from shore to 50' out then drops steadily to a depth of 40' with current. As the sun sets, pickeral will start feeding on easy prey in the shallows (0 to 12 fow and no current...no weeds to speak of either). They have a huge advantage with their vision in obscurity, speed and teeth.
  17. Sure you can catch walleye in the hot midday sun but the absolute best time is from dusk 'til dawn. My PB hit at 11pm on the Larry on a dark moonless night on a large blue and silver Rapala floater. They can be anywhere but usually in the shallows no deeper than 15 fow.
  18. It got black here too all of a sudden but that seems to happen every night. I'm sure everything'll be all right in the morning.
  19. Thanks for the report. You didn't happen to use any of your painted baits did you? And yes Rich, our great Canadian shield. The only place in the world where a day of fishing involves pole dancin' weasels.
  20. Let's hope and pray that everything works out for you guys, Mike.
  21. That reel is the Pete Maina reel, relabeled. It is identical.
  22. Archie, first of all, welcome aboard. What I would do in your position is check out the classifieds. Weekend Warrior is selling a round Pete Maina reel and a low profile Pete Maina for $90 total. These are not Calcuttas for sure but they're both solid starter reels. I've used both and had no trouble whatsoever. If your budget is $200, you should still have enough left over for either a decent muskie net or good release tools. You'll absolutely need those. As a newbie, you can't post to the classifieds yet but I'm sure you can PM Weekend Warrior (or anyone else) to make a deal. Good luck to you.
  23. The fairest way to go is the loser of the wager gets to keep the winner's best fish.
  24. Another option is to look at Trojan Tackle products. Marc Thorpe uses them and I don't know anyone who puts that many hours on them and lands that many large muskies in a year. http://www.trojantackle.ca/
  25. I've never needed one but if you must and you do get backlashes from time to time, keep a small crochet hook in your fishing tools. I use one when I'm I'm tying new line to the arbour on a baitcasting reel. The arbour knot.
