  1. I have found little snowmen with the treble hook mounted .............well we wouldn't go there. GOOD LUCK fishing and let us know how you did. Bob
  2. The best lure for salmon and steelhead on the lower Niagara would be the Quick Fish. VERY similar to the old Flat Fish lure. Fished on a three way rig just like you do when you drift roe. Bob
  3. The BEST advice on a used boat it take it for a ride before even thinking of leaving a deposit. If they don't want to let you launch it and operate it then there is a REASON behind that and drive away. Bob
  4. But don't forget you have your "FREE" health care. Stoty I kind of agree with you that bailing them out isn't the right thing to do. BUT there are WAY too many other business that depend on the auto industry, too many to even count like glass manufactures, tires, plastics, electric components to dealerships (or should i say STEALERSHIPS). The list goes on and on. IF the auto industry fails that snowball would be so big it couldn't be stopped. If the small place you and I work at fail maybe a few hundred workers are out of work and well that's that. But if the auto industry snowball got going there would be MILLIONS out of work within a month.
  5. I agree, it's time to get something that is MUCH better on water pollution. Those old motors were the worst thing for our water quality. I would say a new 4 stroke would be the way to go
  6. Make one out of a 40 qt or larger cooler
  7. A deep cycle battery should be only used for the trolling motor and the main starting battery should be enough to handle GPS/Sonar combo, live well, VHF radio, bilge bump and running lights. I have a Delco Voyager for 8 years taking care of all of this while my deep cycle battery is only hooked up to the trolling motor. I also have a on-board charging system that is hook up to both batteries. This is plug in once I return home or at the dock that I am staying at. DEEP CYCLE BATTERIES SHOULD NOT BE HOOKED UP THE THE OUTBOARD IF IT HAS A ALTERNATOR. THIS SMALL CHARGE IS NOT GOOD FOR THE DEEP CYCLE BATTERY. Bob
  8. I have always had beer in my boat on Ontario waters. Never had a problem YET ! What about house boats. I have rented house boats on the Kawarthans twice and had beer, rum, wine and vodka aboard. No one ever said we couldn't ? ? ?
  9. Jack up each tire on the trailer and spin it. If it spin fast, not noisy then I stop the tire from spinning and grab it at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and check for excessive end play in the bearing (this has worked for me for over 20 years). If OK on each tire I jack it down and check the trailer lights. Also check for correct tire pressure while also looking at the tire sidewalls for dry rot. I then hook up the ear muffs for water on the motor and start the outboard. It will run rough at first because of all the storage oil in the cylinders. Once that oil is burned off it will still run a little rough as it spits because there is no exhaust back pressure. This is normal on my 1985 VRO 50 hp Johnson. Now I will replace the two spark plugs and the motor is ready to go. Replace all the electronics on board from winter storage and run them through a test. Also test to see if the bilge pump turns on. Can also check the live well pump to see it also turns on. Check boat running lights. Add all necessary fishing gear for crappie fishing, top off both gas tanks and head for Chautauqua Lake.....
  10. I almost went fishing.......
  11. SO, since 1997 you have driven 654,000 miles or averaged 54,500 per year. Seems like you would have no time for fishing or anything else.....

  13. I think many will agree that fall and WINTER are nice until about March and then winter gets OLD on everyone. Winter is toooooooooooooo long and summer is toooooooo short. If we had spring by March 21st like most of the country (US) then winter would be more tolerable. But it seems to stretch sometime into mid May. Got to go, the fire needs ANOTHER log on it. Bob
  14. I could send you the Sabres
  15. Never thought of that LOL
  16. If using a automobile drivers license as guide on how folks will better operate their vessels then this is a BIG waste of money. Just take drive down the 401 where everyone is licensed to operate their vehicle. It's NUTS driving on that highway and many others in the Greater Toronto Area. LOOK OUT ! ! !
  17. Been driving almost 40 years. Had many Mopar products (Plymouth and Dodge) when I was younger. ALWAYS fixing something instead of taking my girlfriend somewhere. When I got older I SWORE off of any Chrysler vehicles. Had more new GM and Ford trucks and cars including Saturns that I can remember. The early Saturns were good vehicles. Now they are just another GM product who shares parts with other GM vehicles. June '07 I purchased my first "foriegn" vehicle. However, it was built in Indiana, USA. This Toyota Tundra blows away any Ford or GM truck I ever had. Almost 2 years old and it has never been back to the dealer. I might have trouble finding the dealer it's been that long ago. When I purchased a NEW vehicle from Ford or GM I was always going back for some kind of warranty word and then most times it wasn't done correctly the first time. Got tired of that Bull. I'm sure they practiced what I call "The Wear Down Factor" where they just wear you down bring your vehicle in for whatever warranty service. Once the truck was parked EXACTLY the way I left it in the exact same parking spot when I picked it up. They NEVER call you when the vehicle is done so you had to always call and be left on hold waiting to find out if your truck was repaired. Like I said, no more of that Bull. VERY happy with my new Toyota Tundra and would highly recommend this vehicle to friends and family. Bob
  18. I worked on the Railroad for 30 years and had to take a early retirement because both my shoulders were bad. Left one needs to be replaced. Thank God it's the left as I can still fish and hunt. Most railroad guys have 40+ years before retiring so I seen quite a few retire in their 60's but only one really sticks out in my mind because what the family did on his last day at work. The family hired a stretch limo that was waiting in surprise for the ride home for this worthy dad on his way home. Blew me and others away to see that limo pull up and take this retire home from work for his last time. Of course on their last work day at least on the RR you just come in sign the time sheet, eat some cake and thank everyone who you worked with. So if you can use this idea try checking with his supervisors to see what time will be heading home so the limo's timing is correct. Bob
  19. Sorry to hear that your VRO failed. I have enjoyed my 50 hp VRO Johnson for 24 years starting this year as it is a 1985 model along with the Grumman boat and Tynee trailer. Runs great using the VRO injection system. I wouldn't think of removing it. My motor has three waring buzzards, one for low oil in the remote tank (1.8 gals) one for NO oil and one for engine over heating. I have a new unopened qt of oil in the boat just in case I do have problems with the oil injection system but that quart has been in there for YEARS and YEARS now and just has become part of the boats equipment along with extra spark plugs and a old set of wheel bearing. So far knock on wood none have ever been used. I do all my own maintenance every year on the boat, motor and trailer. This way I KNOW it's been done and done right. Bob
  20. Believe or not Penzoil is the ONLY 2 cycle oil my dealer told me to stay away from. I have been using Walmart's Super Tech 2 cycle oil now for about 10 years. Works great in my 50 hp VRO Johnson outboard. Same color, texture and smell of Lubermatic Oil so I am guessing that is what it is. It sells here in the US for $7.95 per gallon. Other great news I just recently found out is Walmart's Super Tech fully synthetic motor oil is Mobil 1 at a 50% savings. Bob
  21. I can see cactus type trees in the picture. You guys have them in the Great White North now ? ? ?
  22. Big Caribou Lake that is south of Lake Nip. Here's some REAL nice cottages run by VERY nice people. Also the ice fishing is a GREAT deal at $65 per man INCLUDING overnight cottage stay........... http://www.brookscottages.com/
  23. I have a Lowrance 520c unit and it's a great unit. Same as the 522 but with remote GPS antenna. What's nice about the Lowrance products is they can be networked together if you want one on the console and one up front at the bow while using the trolling motor. Most PRO's go with Lowrance and just today Lowrance announce it's new 2009 HDS units can add side imaging. This will definitely blow away Humminbird. Bob
  24. According to Consumer Reports the Honda Ridge Line and the Toyota Tacoma better know as the "Taco" are rated very high. Good Luck with the new sweet ride, Bob
  25. Of course we have Dicks Sporting Goods in the Galleria Mall that is right at the Thruway exit in Cheektowaga and we also have Gander Mountain in Tonawanda but you probably don't want to miss Rainbow Sports in NORTH Tonawanda. Don't let the small store front fool you. This place is HUGE. It goes all the way back to the next street. They have stuff that no other bait and tackle shop has in stock. Here's some info on Rainbow Sports. Rainbow Sports 267 Oliver St North Tonawanda, NY 14120 (716) 692-7510 Dicks Sporting Goods Walden Galleria Mall 2 Walden Galleria Buffalo, NY 14225 716- 651-0600 Gander Mountain 880 Young Street, Tonawanda, NY, 14150, (716) 743-2300 The closest would be Rainbow Sports to Niagara Falls with the next being Gander Mountain. Both only 10-15 minutes away. If I were you I wouldn't miss Rainbow Sports in NT. Bob
