Hey guys thanks alot! I think the closest town is waltam now that you mentioned them Jaques! And i'll only be fishing the Ottawa river system so its good to know that my wife and I wont need to buy licenses! I'll have to get your contact info and maybe you can make the trek down for a day on the water! Both my old mand and I will have our boats with us. I'm going to slam some smallies and eyes, but I've heard from alot of people other than holdfast, that the catfishing is awesome so I might give them a go for fun! I'll stick to trying for musky somewhere that they're more readily avail. Anyways, heading to the bahamas this morning for some Bone Fish action, and hopefully a little fishing out in the open water to!! maybe when I get home there'll be enough ice to hit the pannies! Cheers, uf

Super Braid is just what Stren calls their braid. As far as fading is concerned, I doubt it diminishes the line strength, I'm just a stickler with EVERYTHING, and I like looking down at a nice clean looking spool of line when I'm fishing! When it comes to color, for the most part, who cares, I use a fluoro leader when I fish for anything from bluegill, to bass, and even carp. I'll use green line, without a leader if I'm fishing largemouth in thick cover, when the water's stained. As for other "super lines" I got a spool of 14lb Fireline for my birthday this spring, and although I liked it better than fishing with mono, once it's pooched I won't be buying that product again, that's for sure! It's like fishing with dental floss! Cheers, UF

I used to use Power Pro and have no issues with the line, except for that it looses it's color faster than super braid. I now use superbraid exclusively, and if you're happy with it to, I'd just stick to what you like and trust. There's 0 reasons to switch IMO, but if you need line and can't get your hands on any Stren, you probably won't be dissapointed with PPRO.

Hey guys, It looks like if everything works out well, we'll be spending a week at my Aunt and Uncles cottage this summer. (who are actually just really close friends of the family, but I call them Aunt and Uncle) I don't know the name any local towns on the quebec side, so I added a shot of google maps to this thread showing exactly where we'll be for the week.... They've got 2 cottages on their property, my wife, kids and I will have the smaller one all to ourselves, and my parent's and aunt and uncle will be in the big one. Here's our cottage. The View I've been looking forward to spending some time on the water with my Uncle Harvey for a LONG LONG TIME now. He's more like a grandfather to me, seeing as the only grandfather I knew passed away when I was 5. I actually didn't even know we weren't "technically" related until I was a teenager! lol Here's my old man and Uncle Harvey in a shot from last summer when I couldn't make the trip! They're old school fisherman, my cousins and dad learned everything they know from my Uncle! Drag a minnow or worm around endlessly, catching whatever happens to bite. I'm more of a "sport fisherman" rarely keeping anything for the table, and I'm just wondering what species aside from bass and eye's are available in the area, and if you have any suggestions of what gear I should take along? No doubt, with a 2.5 year old and fresh baby, my wife will limit the amount of fishing gear I can pack into the truck! Also, I was told that I don't need to get a quebec fishing liscense? Thanks for any info you guys can dish out on the area! Not looking for any "hot-spots" or anything like that. Cheers, UF

Long Point Bay Ice Report...
The Urban Fisherman replied to The Urban Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Hey tjsa - that sucks about your washer also, if it makes you feel any better we lost our power in the middle of the night saturday night and woke up to a completely flooded basement on sunday. There was 7-8 inches of water in the garage and 1 to 2 inches the rest of the house....floor's finished, dry-wall and baseboards are shot..yeehaaa -
Long story short, yesterday we had a minor flood in my laundry room due to a malfunction with our sump pump, my daughter was sick and messed up her blankets so her bed set was on the floor along with a good solid 10 loads of laundry because our washing machine broke last week! lol So we had to load all the clothes, blankets and pillow's into garbage bags and head down the road to my wife's grandmother's place to do laundry all day. Lucky for me she lives right on the bay! So I had to bring my new toys down to the lake and test out the ice conditions. It's only my second season ice fishing and was my first time on the bay in the winter so I started at a dock, drilled a hole and was stoked to find a good solid 7-8 inches of good ice. I tried fishing from 3' of water at the dock to the deepest spot I could find in the channels which was about 6' NOTHIN! haha But my new-to-me graph worked GREAT, marking my jig and everything. So, I walked and walked and walked out into the bay, drilling holes everywhere... Didn't get so much as a sniff, but It was nice to test out my new toys for a couple hours and to just hit the ice again. To top it all off I had the ENTIRE bay to myself. Not another person in sight! The Ice was very good, thinning out to about 4 inches of good solid ice a KM or so out. But I imagine last nights rain and today's temps will take a tole on it. Back to work for me! Good luck out there and play safe. Cheers, UF

The longevity of braided line?
The Urban Fisherman replied to muskeybugged's topic in General Discussion
I use braid on almost all of my rods and I'm "thrifty" as my wife would say, so something I do if I have plenty of line left on my reel and it's still in pretty good shape is I'll swap the line from 1 reel to another so the "lightly used" line is now on the bottom end of the spool and the line that hasn't yet seen the light of day is on the outside, ready for another season or two of fish pounding action! -

+5 degree's and RAIN Tomorrow...That's not gonna help the cause so much - followed with overnight wind gusts up to 64kph - poor santa's gonna have a rough flight! -
Are you sure they aren't x-mas ornaments?!? lol just kidding dude, but if they don't work you can just hang them in your tree next year!
-
Never mind the launcher - I imagine a missile refill costs a few more bucks than a Rapala! Next time I lose one to a snag I won't feel so bad!

How to stay positive during this holiday season?
The Urban Fisherman replied to bassfighter's topic in General Discussion
Hey guys, I don't believe in God, or religion of any form, but I don't think this debate was bassfighter's original intent for this thread in any way shape or form, nor do I think it belongs here. Why don't you take it to PM's or something so that his thread doesn't get locked up! -
Thanks Fil - I know exactly what goes on in the editing room seeing as I'm the editor of the show! I'll tell you what if you know anybody who wants a part time job counting Dave's casts and such let me know!!! haha On those tough-bite days, they sure do add up! It's not so bad though - all part of the job!

long point, waterford, deer creek ice????
The Urban Fisherman replied to iceslayer's topic in General Discussion
Hey brother no ice forming at all on deer creek.it started then we got hit with that rain and its long gone -
I watch WFN alot, and I honestly can't name a recently made, credible show, that has done that without mentioning somewhere that it's a different day of fishing, and usually a different species...

well if it takes somebody like Linder 80 hours to shoot a show then they're doing something wrong because our average shoots are 2 to 5 hours with the odd day that goes sun - up to sun - down on a tough bite.... and if you do the math on a 13 episode shoot it'd take 130 days to shoot a season's worth of shows...which wouldn't be very cost effective at all! lol Being an editor myself, I sure wouldn't want to sift through 160hrs (2 camera angles) of footage for each episode. I doubt I'd have time to finish editing a season in time! I'm just buggin' ya GCD - but either way, there's no denying that Linder know's his stuff, his show is of top notch production quality, as it should be with as many years that he's been in production, and I'm sure if we did a poll on OFC his show would be right up there in the rankings.... Cheers, UF

Opinions on this ice auger...
The Urban Fisherman replied to The Urban Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
At first I thought it was a picture taken @ one of BITEME's Polar Bear Dip events! You wouldn't catch me in the water mid-winter...no matter who jumps in first! -
I was surfing the net looking at augers and came across icefishingpro.com - I'm not sure what caught my eye but something told me that I should check and see if they had any valuable information on their website... man we need some cold weather down here...

People are entitled to their opinions, whether they're educated enough to give a proper opinion or not is another story. I don't have a degree in economics, so at the end of the day my opinion on this matter means squat. I'd like to think that the majority of the population isn't selfish enough to just think of themselves, and what they gain or lose from this whole thing. I say, speak your mind, respect other peoples views, like them or not, and whatever the outcome might be, work together for a better tomorrow! I know I'm just going to kick back, enjoy this thread to it's fullest, and hope it doesn't get to the point where it has to be locked. Cheers, UF Ps. I don't believe in god, but I respect people who do, and expect the same respect in return. Can't we all just get along.

heyo - just for the record Rich doesn't live with Mommy, he supports himself, his girlfriend, their child and his rediculous obsession with fishing - works hard and play's hard. I've got a mortgage, and you know what - poop happens, if I lost my job tomorrow, it wouldn't be the end of the world. I'd find something else, work my butt off again and eventually all would be well. I've been through bankrupcy with my parents when I was a younger lad and it isn't pretty - but we're still here, we have each other which is all that really matters in the end, and IMO I'm a stronger person for going through it. cheers, UF

Been fishing since I could stand on my own two feet, obsessed ever since, learned a ton from my father, then moved away and trial and error was the name of the game, learned some things on the internet, and even more when I found OFC. I've gone leaps and bounds since I started working for Mercer - He's an endless pit of knowledge and experience, and you know what....I still get skunked all the time! But I have a blast doing it and always will....

I have yet to touch a shovel this year...come to think of it somebody ripped mine off from the driveway last year so I guess I should probably pick one up...At least the pond was frozen solid this morning.... Here's the scene from my office window...
