I just started ice fishing but have no sonar yet. Any suggestions on what to use? I don't particularly like the flasher models. I'd rather use the ones with the screens showing the fish. I don't want cheap but definately don't want the most expensive ones considering I won't be using it all that much probably. Doesn't matter what brand as long as it's good. Any suggestions appreciated.

They are on for $99.94 at Bass Pro this week. Almost got one except there's only 2 settings and no in between so I passed.

The CT in Brantford told me they aren't allowed to sell them until Jan 2 so I don't know why you guys were able to get yours. Every store should be the same. That's Bull if you ask me. I could be fishing right now.

Well I did take some pics so I have a rough idea. By the road got really weedy and out by the tower so it might be interesting. I'll definately have to explore the area well.

Someone from GRCA contacted me this year and said they don't suggest I fish there but someone else from Pinehurst wrote and said it's okay to fish there. He said there were pike and crappie in there. I want the crappie mainly. I see it's a little shallow but has deeper spots and weedy, at least later in the summer. Haven't had a chance to really fish it early in the summer. Now I got my auger I think I'll try to ice fish it this year. I'll definately post if I have any luck. Thanks for the reply.

Has anyone ever tried ice fishing at those 2 lakes? Was thinking of trying it out this season.

My brother got one down home in a snare a couple years ago and I think he said he got $42 for the pelt. I know I wouldn't feel bad about shooting one. They do kill livestock. So do foxes for that matter. My brother said some got some of their chickens but I don't think I'd want to shoot them.

I knew I've seen pickerel spelled with an A before. That's how I was spelling it then I started seeing it with an E and wondered why I was using an A. I knew I wasn't crazy. Some might argue that point.

I've never heard of any pickerel being in the Grand. You can debate the pickerel/walleye thing forever. They had a good article in Outdoor Canada on the difference of grass, chain, and an other type of pickerel. The chain pickerel is a member of the pike family. When you see a chain pickerel, you'll know why. It looks like a pike except for the markings. What I don't understand is why those pickerel resemble a pike but walleye are referred to sometimes as yellow pickerel. A walleye doesn't resemble pike/chain pickerel at all. So that's confusing. I've heard walleye also called pike/perch. But anyway, here's a pic of a chain pickerel from New Brunswick.

First cast and got nothing after that. Got snagged twice so gave up but better than nothing.

Managed to get one last largemouth for the season, 2 3/4 lbs. Kinda funny though. Just got to that spot and 2 other guys were on the other side fishing getting nuthin' and I go in the other and pluck this baby out. Should've seen the look on their faces.

My guess is they'll look some good in the freezer. Good job.
