  1. Assuming this all goes well Spiel will have some competition soon. I would like to start to build bamboo fly rods, done my research and still have a few questions. First is how can I tell low grade from high grade tonkin cane? Where can I get the cheapest aluminum planing board? Any other opinions or knowledge is welcome and appreciated, thank you!
  2. Another nickname for a brookie is squaretail.
  3. I've heard stories of little ditches at the sides of roads where you can throw in a little piece of worm and a bobber in and your guaranteed a brookie in from around that area.
  4. This is all probably all fairly good advice, almost everyone posting has their avatar of a trophy ski!
  5. French, lots of species, very diverse, away from any urban setting. Of course I'd really like to look at some thing like dryden, north eastern quebec or maybe christmas island.
  6. That third last one is great!
  7. I gotta say that that's just rediculous. If some guy does show up at the stream, pulls a one piece rod out of a garbage bag, and puts on some camo waders, ya he's not going to look the part. But if your standing upstream all dressed up and he starts out fishing you, your going to feel pretty stupid!
  8. Very nice fish! What hatch is this right now?
  9. Well, since the opener I haven't seen one report come out of there, your probably better going to rice, lots of good news coming from there.
  10. Orangeville was no better, a few pannies and that was it. If you live in that area why don't you try trout (resident, not steelhead), I tried them for about half an hour and caught a few yesterday, and I know that in that area you have a better selection of rivers than me.
  11. Of a sunfish, and a dink perch? Or is someone looking for backgrounds? I'll tell you what Mis, for my next trip I'll include some pics; IF we get out some time this year!
  12. Well, I'm home. Wasn't a very good day, worked pretty much the whole lake with spoons, spinnerbaits, jigs, crankbaits, and husky jerks. Got one little sunfish and perch, along with seeing a ton of largies. But it turned around when I headed down to the river, threw some spinners into likely looking pools and got some amazing action, had about 3 fish on in half an hour and because of the barbless regs all of them shook the hook, but I can't wait to get back.
  13. Get a simple popper or something like that, just have it ready when you see that, chuck it over catch one and see if it's worth fishing for.
  14. In where? Pigeon or lakair? I may not be able to swing those dates though, it's really close to my yearly ns trip.
  15. Would top waters work for pike this time of year or should I stick with the husky jerks and sb?
  16. No, getting the boat from the CA so trailering it would not be an option.
  17. Don't worry, I'll keep you company!
  18. Within the last hour I mad my choice between orangeville and belwood, chose orangeville. Don't have much info on either but judging by reports and blogs I thought orangeville would be better. There are pike, crappie and perch, along with their crazy amount of bass. Only non motorized and electric powered boats allowed, rentals available for $90 full day and $60 for half day, hope to see you there!
  19. Take a screwdriver to the brain and that will kill anything!
