  1. Tell the dealer what you want. Talk to several. I drove 300km to pick mine up, but in my opinion, they treated me the best. There is wiggle room on price...trust me.
  2. Forgot to mention. For that price, check out the Smokercraft proangler. Sweet boat!
  3. Honestly, call Marsh,s marina. I searched for a boat for YEARS and these guys treated me the best! You can get a sweet boat for that price. Tell them what you want and what you are willing to pay. They also deal with Suzuki motors which are bullet proof!
  4. I think buying new is great. Sure I could have saved a few bucks buying used, but with new I know how it was treated. Boats are a money pit, bit if you get what you want up front, it will last you forever. I have no regrets.
  5. I just bought a new boat (Smokercraft). I learned a few things as this was my first big boat purchase. 1. Go as big as you can with the main motor. You want a motor that will move the boat nicely without running wide open. Ya its more money, but worth it. 2. As mentioned, spend the money on a good trolling motor. I laboured over buying a terrova with ipilot, but to me now that I have used it, is as important as anything. 3. Spend some serious time sitting in the boat before you buy. Bring your gear and see how it fits. I love my boat to death, but my rods dont fit in the storage (eyes are too big to slide in.... never thought of that). Good luck.... excited for you.
  6. Hi all, wondering if anyone can help me with info on how to catch leeches on lake Erie. All the bait shops seem to be out and I want to learn how. Thanks in advance.
  7. Hey all. Spent the day out on Erie today with guide Paul Castellano. Phenominal fishing.... honestly it was like fly-in type of fishing, only the walleye were bass. My main goal was to learn some techniques for my area of Erie. He spent a lot of time teaching me some great new techniques and even some great boat control tips. Biggest fish of the day was 4.5 pounds, but we caught tons pushing 4. Anyone looking for a guide, I would not hesitate to recommend him!
  8. My son thinks it is law to wear your pfd
  9. That is awesome!
  10. I am assuming kmph?
  11. What speed are you trolling?
  12. Great shop!
  13. Hey there, just wondering if the eyes on lake Erie can be caught without using dipsy or down riggers ( i.e under 20 ft). I would really like to try for some. As info, I launch out of Lowbanks (near Dunnville)
  14. I hear ya...great for keeping them out of the way, nut useless for keeping them protected
  15. Hey guys. Lets get real about something. True, the boat should run from the get go. I just dont have time right now to deal with a dealer who is 3 hours away and test a bunch of different things. I will one day, but for now the smart tabs lets me and my kids get out fishing in comfort. I could care less about hole shot and top speed (which I think is pretty awesome already). On plane at 3500 rpm and top speed of 65-70kmph is great in my books.
  16. I am fishing out of Lowbanks. The schools have been HUGE, but not a lot of keepers. Great job!
  17. I agree. For me, changing motor height, props, etc. wasnt an option. I have 3 kids under 5 and am lucky to get time fishing let alone adjustments. $100 and I solved the problem. Case closed
  18. Havent tried taking out the tubes (good suggestion). All of my rods are spinning. Other than the rod storage, i am thoroughly impressed with the boat. Almost hurt to get some slime on it...had to give a thorough clean after lol
  19. So a reply to one of my other posts got me thinking. I just bought a Smokercraft Promag. Never thought to test out the rod storage. It has in-floor storage for 8 rods with tubes. I have 7ft one piece rods and the eyes are too big to slide into tubes ( what are boat manufacturers thinking). Anyone else encounter this problem?
  20. Plane easy. My same issue was the bounce and it is gone. Took 1/2 hour to install... Super easy. Ya, the rod storage sucks. I have 4 7ft one piece rods and the rod eyes are too big too big to fit in the tubes.
  21. Hey. I actually broke down and put some smart tabs on. Absolutely amazing difference. Planes early, zero bounce. Was very enjoyable to be out in. I opened her up and after playing with the trim I got 68 kmph. The Suzuki 140 is more like a 115, when compared to a Merc, but I chose longevity over top speed. 68 kmph is fast enough for me! To top it off, got into some great Lake Erie perch. Schools were crazy!
  22. Interested in the answer to this. My 597ci doesnt work when the Terrova is on.
  23. Taking it out on Saturday and will let you know how it does
  24. Nope, was fully down like that
  25. Hi there, considering smart tabs for my boat (Smokercraft Promag 182 with a 140hp). Anyone use these? Positives/negatives?
