  1. Thanks so much for the info...kinda pumped now. I just got a new Humminbird 587 that I am dying to try too! When does the fishing start? Are they there now? So 10'-20' of water is what I am looking for? God I love this site...have gotten so much help over the years!
  2. Cool! Thanks! Lure suggestions for flatlining?
  3. Hi there, just wondering what opportunities might exist in Grimsby. I live literally 2 minutes from 50 point and have a boat, but don't have (and not going to invest in) downriggers. Is it possible to get some trout/salmon in the spring/fall without downriggers?
  4. Holy replies. I agree that live bait might not be necessary, but I'm driving 18 hours, spending 2 years savings, and am inaccessible for a week. If a flat of worms is going to make the difference, I am going to bring them....just in case. I live in Grimsby and am looking for a shop that will sell in bulk.
  5. Thanks...kinda gathered the general process of buying worms and putting them in bedding. However, the places I know sell them in soil and they are also quite expensive per dozen...was looking for alternatives.
  6. Hi there, looking to get some worms for a fly-in. They need to be in bedding rather than soil and I am looking at bringing around 100-150...any ideas on how to get them/do this?
  7. Hi there, I have always wanted to get into hunting deer and have decided that I may now take the leap. I do not own any guns and the research I have done is really confusing. What is the process I need to go through in order to legally own a rifle? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  8. For $1000 bucks, you can't even get a cottage on Rice lake including 4 boats, motors and gas let alone a wilderness camp. I am booked for this new camp (first group to be on it actually). As a fellow business owner, I can tell you that I have spoken to Eddie and he is the type of guy that you want to do business with. If I don't catch a thing (which I know won't happen), it still will have been the trip of a lifetime, at a price that I can afford.
  9. Hey, I just posted that I am looking to possibly join a group for this trip. Would you guys consider this?

  10. I am a solo fisherman (i.e. none of my buds fish harcore enough to go on a trip). I would be interested in joining in on a group if someone is willing to have me....I know it may be weird bunking with people you have never met, but otherwise, I will never get a chance to go! PM me if you would rather.
  11. Sorry. one more question...I didn't get the HD unit...what's the difference between the ci and the ci HD? Also, is the ci HD a combo unit?
  12. Thanks for the input. Just stopped by my local shop and picked up a 587ci combo unit on sale for $400.00....good deal? Good unit?
  13. Considering the I-Pilot for MinnKota....any feedback...is it worth it?
  14. Hi there,I have decided that I would like to invest in a good quality sonar for my boat. For the past years, I have always had a Humminbird Piranha...good for depth and detecting weeds, but not much else. I would love to get a GPS unit with maps, but my budget is around $500.00. Since I really know nothing about sonar, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Hi all, hoping that someone can help me. I am looking for family vacation ideas this summer. We are very flexible on dates, just want to have fun as a family. By summer time, my two boys will be 4years and 2years. We are looking for somewhere that will be all about them. I will have lots of fishing trips, so that is not a must for this trip. Any recommendations are MUCH appreciated. Thanks in advance. P.S. (budget...under $1,500)
  16. Hi all, I have dreamed since a small boy about taking the fishing trip of a lifetime. Basically, I want wilderness and the best fishing I have ever imagined...mainly walleye. I am considering Eddie North's camp, but am looking for suggestions. Spending the money to go would be a stretch for me, so I want to make it totally worth it. I am not looking for frills...just awesome fishing. Thanks.
  17. When I see pics like that I wish I was a trout fisherman....they are so beautiful...great job.
  18. Honestly man, that is AWESOME! I am taking my son ( 3 years old) on our first fishing trip this weekend....after seeing your pics...wished I had started sooner! Excellent job!
  19. Hi all, I live in Grimsby and am about a 3 minute drive from 50 point. Are there any fishing opportunities out from there? I have a 16 foot aluminum with a 40hp, but don't have downriggers. It would be great if I could take advantage of some fishing close to home rather than driving a few hours. Feel free to PM me if you would prefer. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
  20. Was up at the French launching out of Schell's camp the weekend of August 12-15. Fishing was on fire. Caught 10 walleye on the Saturday in a little over 2 hours..I have never done so well. Most fish taken trolling a worm harness on the weed edges early morning. Fish ranged from 13-22 inches, and i kept a few that were not in the slot. Surprisingly, I only caught 1 pike and a few bass. The walleye curse has been lifted for me....finally.
  21. Not sure if it is lower or upper, but was fishing just off hwy 69 at Schell's camp. I'll keep trying and will be rewarded eventually....just frustrating.
  22. Not really, but they are hard to catch....at least for me. I finally got the walleye bug last year after always only fishing for bass. I tried Balsam and Rice with no luck. This past week, I went to the French River for a 3 day trip (first trip of the year) determined to catch some walleye....again no luck. I am not starting off well. The weather was brutal for fishing....30 degrees, no wind and full sun....but still...COME ON! I got up at 5am, I jigged in the narrows with jig and minnow, I trolled minnow baits, I fished off the dock at night with just a minnow and split shot. I tried to find some weeds, but for some reason, the weed beds are still non-existent, or VERY sparse. It did make me feel better to hear everyone say that the fishing was tough though. I did catch some nice pike and OOS smallmouth....one absolute brute which was nice. Heading back up to the French River in 3 weeks to try round 2...wish me luck.
  23. Hi all, heading up to the French River on Sunday until Wednesday. Staying at Schell's camp. Newish to walleye fishing and wondering what depths I should be targeting? Will they go deep mid-day this time of year? I have read so many different articles that I am almost confused. Some said fish shallow....like 3-6 feet, some said target 10 feet.....any advice you can offer would be great so that I have a starting point. Thanks in advance.
  24. Thanks. Is it normal for the wheel to be warm to the touch after only a couple of km's?
  25. Hi there, this is an extension to a previous post I did a few days ago. I re-packed the bearings on my trailer and took it for a quick spin tonight ( 1 exit on the highway). When I got back, I jacked it up to check and see if there was any play in the wheel and there was in both wheels. Not a lot, but I had none before I took it for a drive. I took out the cotter pin and sure enough was able to get a good full turn out of the nut. I tightened it up, re-installed the cotter pin and took it for another spin on the highway again (1 exit). When I got back, I jacked it up and there was no play in the wheels at all, so I am guessing that the bearings weren't fully seated and taking it for a spin set them. I'm a little nervous about it now though and have a few more questions. As info, it's a 2007 easy hauler (16 foot boat). I bought the boat used, so have no idea how well the bearings were cared for previously, but they looked O.K. when i took it apart. 1. When i touched the hub after the run on the highway, one hub was warm to the touch (not hot), and the other was luke warm. Is that normal? 2. How much does it cost normally to get someone to change the bearings for you. I have a tight budget, but am now wondering if it is a good idea to do. thanks in advance.
