Spent yesterday with the yak on scugog. Nothing like a zillion degree temperatures and no wind to wear you down. It was helped by lots of blow ups that just refused to get pinned. Kind of got the feeling the bass were just trying to get rid of the damn frog so that they could back to their naps - wouldn't blame them Anyhow, always better than being at work and I got a bit of it on film for fun: <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="360" data="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786"'>http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"> <param name="flashvars" value="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=70a556c312&photo_id=7515496268&hd_default=false"></param> <param name="movie" value="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786"></param> <param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"></param> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=70a556c312&photo_id=7515496268&hd_default=false" height="360" width="640"></embed></object> Hope you enjoy PS: My vacation continues all of next week - if anyone wants to get on the water around the GTA let me know.

Hi everyone. I know it's the Ontario Fishing Community but I figured I'd toss out a little report on a week spent at Lake Kipawa just across the border near North Bay. This is our second year going to Kipawa (my wife and I) so we're still exploring a lot - the winds were up most of the week so we had to explore lots of new water. Luckily the hosts (3 seasons camp) and other guests were great sources of info. Anyhow, we had a great time and ate plenty of fish and of course got to meet the locals: Untitled by Sean Maurik, on Flickr Here's my notes and a few photos: Saturday: water temp was about 78 and we spent the afternoon swimming in a nice rocky bay, didn't really do any serious fishing JIMG_0105 by Sean Maurik, on Flickr Sunday I went out and fished mid lake humps which worked but a storm blew up in the afternoon so it was movie night (ipads are great) Monday was more trolling around the humps, brought up a nice sucker <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="480" data="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786"'>http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786"'>http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786"'>http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"> <param name="flashvars" value="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=0ec7d674b3&photo_id=7480457648&hd_default=false"></param> <param name="movie" value="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786"></param>'>http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786"></param> <param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"></param> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=0ec7d674b3&photo_id=7480457648&hd_default=false" height="480" width="640"></embed></object> In the afternoon we trolled shorelines and of course pike where out and about JIMG_0132 by Sean Maurik, on Flickr During the evening Julia decided to show me how it was done jigging up a nice 'eye then picking up another trolling a blue chrome taildancer: JIMG_0140 by Sean Maurik, on Flickr JIMG_0153 by Sean Maurik, on Flickr Monday was also the first fish fry night: JIMG_0157 by Sean Maurik, on Flickr Tuesday was a lazy windy day with Julia landing another nice one but we didn't stay out much - the mosquitos really came after us with a vengeance for some reason. Wednesday I spent mostly targetting bass. Had a monster on with the video camera filming when the net got stuck (I'd lost another large one earlier so this time I wanted to be sure and use the net). I'm sure we can all relate: <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="480" data="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"> <param name="flashvars" value="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=60d088ff08&photo_id=7480784094&hd_default=false"></param> <param name="movie" value="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786"></param> <param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"></param> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=60d088ff08&photo_id=7480784094&hd_default=false" height="480" width="640"></embed></object> We spent the evening jigging and did quite well with lots of boats hanging out, a great evening was had by all. Thursday we went to one of the back lakes hunting for large pike but didn't do too well, did get quite a start when this guy actually crawled up my shirt and got onto my shoulder Dock Spider by Sean Maurik, on Flickr Julia did get to hold her first pike though - it was a monster JIMG_0202 by Sean Maurik, on Flickr Jigging during the evening in the same spot in Wednesday turned up lots of fish but the size was way down - only one keeper. Friday I worked shorelines and rock piles for bass again but instead got this guy - he hit my spinner bait in 7' of water Untitled by Sean Maurik, on Flickr Anyhow - For the full slide show with lots of scenery shots go here (sorry, can't embed it into the post: http://www.flickr.com//photos/emosworld/sets/72157630372863320/show/.

Don't worry about the report Lew - just go up and have a great time! Ahhh who am I kidding - I'd love to see some west arm beauties when you get back.

Man that looks like a great trip. Thanks for taking the time to post all of those photos!

We've done the ceviche on a couple trips (lots of lime juice, onion, herbs, etc) but a biologist buddy at the MNR mentioned something - ceviche will "cook" the fish but it generally won't harm any parasites. The lake we were fishing had the odd worm problem so he suggested we should avoid the ceviche. Anyhow, just something to think about that. That said - it was dang fantastic - even the camp fox agreed: <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="480" data="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786"'>http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"> <param name="flashvars" value="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=d8f83be4d7&photo_id=2755767716"></param> <param name="movie" value="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786"></param> <param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"></param> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=109786" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=d8f83be4d7&photo_id=2755767716" height="480" width="640"></embed></object> And here's the Ceviche "brewing" Ceviche by Sean Maurik, on Flickr

Wish I could say I had nothing to relate but back in 07 with PatrickG we were fishing Pike on the T.O. Islands when one I was trying to remove an xrap from decided to go bezerk in my hands. You know the type - not big enough that you take it seriously but heavy enough that it's thrashing can really drive hooks.... welll..... Lesson learned by Sean Maurik, on Flickr Got a few looks crossing the ferry with that in my hand and then going to St. Joes (Thanks to Patrick for all the help on that). Funny thing was that the doc that took care of me had just recently moved down from his practice in Peterborough and said it was nice to see a hook injury again

Some of you may have heard of the flooding happening in Thunder Bay that caused them to declare a state of emergency. Pretty ugly stuff, still trying to get hold of my family up there to see if they're places are ok but this made me laugh, only in Thunder Bay: EDIT: Turns out it's not a real pic from T Bay but then again some of those brookies could muscle their way across just fine Here's a good link for the more dramatic photos: http://www.tbnewswatch.com/news/211833/Your-view-Flood Hope everyone up there is making out ok.

Great weekend by any measure. And no simcoe gnats to worry about!

What happens when tree brudders go laker hunting?

I see the bugs have gotten better since the last video . I should be jealous (ok I am) but it's great to see friends having fun like that. "I didn't loose him, I know exactly where he is" - classic. -
Black and Orange - I've tried black and blue and white and pink but no luck. Just no good at ripping but swimming a jig - I'm in

Fishing on the St.Lawrence today close to Montreal

Gotta be a loosing battle trying to keep teen age girls interested in fishing Mike but I'm sure they're happy you tried Now please stop talking about your great boat - my life is giving me dirty looks after I told her how nice your was -
Well the native ulitmate is reall more canoe than kayak but I like it that way -easy to stow everything in reach without getting wet.
-
Hey Vince - which boat were you? I'll be back soon - just need to earn some more brownie points with my wife
-
It's because I'm sitting down - yeah that's it. Certainly not my fault

Morning everyone. I haven't done a report in ages it seems but hopefully I'll manage to get a few up this season. Yesterday I got the kayak (ok canoe / kayak hybrid - whatever) out for its first trip of the season. I headed out to Rice for some walleye fishing and finally got it all working. For some reason I've never had good success on Rice but last week my wife and I managed a couple so I took what I learned from that and applied it yesterday morning. I checked the map and had a couple spots in mind but it turns out that you really didn't need a map. Every spot I was thinking of had a cluster of boats on it - I'm sure there's secret spots on rice but if your new to the lake just look for the other boats - at one time I had 3 rangers around me plus a couple lunds - they didn't outfish me though hehe . Anyhow, I was on the water at 7:30 and off at 11:30 with dinner safely in the cooler (can't help but keep some eye's in the spring for the table). Tried out a black and orange bucktail, a perch crank and a pink and white grub on a little thumper jig. For some reason I've NEVER caught a fish on a bucktail jig and today didn't change that - I give up The crank only got tossed a couple times when I was in the middle of an opening but the once I was near the weedlines it was the jig and grub using either a slow and steady retrieve along the weedline or hopped along the bottom near/in it that caught everything. Didn't get any incidentals today which was a little odd but nice - it was a walleye only morning. Anyhow, I didn't have a camera but I had the go pro out so I put together a video of a few of them, hope you enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HqBTY_yS8o&feature=g-upl Hope to see you all out there, enjoy the rest of this great weekend! Nicely done Simon. Must be nice to simply pop back into the house when the rain gets too bad rather than trying to race back to camp in a tin boat with a 9.9

Great job Dutch! We got out later in the morning (renting a boat) and hung around the area where we rented it (Harris Boat works) and picked up a couple, one in 15' and on in 4' - go figure Dinner! by Sean Maurik, on Flickr

Great stuff Tyler and great photos as well!
