I did look at BPS and could not find what i was looking for as far as Gloomis was concerned, maybe I did not look good enough but I will look again. I want to be able to drive to pic up the stick do not want to do the online order.

Hey guys, just a quick question here. I am looking at getting a new stick for bottom bouncing the piers for browns and bows and bouncing the Niagara, looking at something 10.5-11.5ft med-fast action should do the job, any ideas of models or shops that carry them would be appreciated. Again only looking for Gloomis, kinda hard to locate around here, but might be tempted if someone chimes in with good words about the Avid series cause I am sure they have a 10.5 or 11ft. Just looking for ideas, the thought of spending around 400-500 for a rod makes me want to do all the research I can. i am in the Niagara region as well.

In my experiences if your looking to target pike and musky maybe salmon, I would consider the Curado. Now if your looking at using it for bass or similar I probably would go with the quantum. I love throwing soft plastics with my energy but hate throwing bigger baits with it. Also I like the drag alot better with the Shimano much smoother but like the ease of the breaking system with Quantum, kind of a catch 22. My next reel will be the new Stradic CI4 for bottom bouncing for steelhead in the Niagara, smooth as a babys bottom!

I think this says it all to be honest, maybe wait for the boat show and see whats available there.

I think they should put one further east in Nova scotia, I am not much of a hockey fanatic but I am sure it would do well out there.

MPS are very important when it comes to printing the images, but as far as anything else is concerned it really isnt all that important I prefer my Canon over Nikon solely cause of the range of glass available, also I am familiar with canon as well and did not feel like learning a new product... Again it is more to do with the shooter than the camera, but the rebel line seems alot more intuitive and easier to navigate..Just my opinion though

boil in a brine cure works to make them into rubber pellets

What aboot food coloring?? Anyone use that?? I would think the food coloring would leach into the water and have a reverse effect. But some places say use that or borax or procure, I would think the less the chems and added crap the better. Just trying to get a consensus here of what everyone does. I like to make little books of info for tying knots, flies, cures, presentations anything too do with fishing pretty much and make a "fishing" time capsule for my children and down the genetic line. Thinking back I would have loved to seen what my great grandfather or even grandfather was doi back in the 20s and 30s. So if I ask a lot of questions its for a reason

I would half to agree with that, but keep the eggs on the skein and float the skein salmonoids and trout eat it up like crack
-
Im sure if you get close they will think some "terrorist" activity is going on. Im positive it is closed and cant get close.
-
I usually like them soft as well but when your bottom bouncing soft roe such as frozen/fresh w/o cure they do not last nearly as long as if your floating them. Im not too huge into float fishing, I would rather bounce the Niagara if I have the opportunity.

Kinda makes me all warm and tingly inside

Nice MJL, good to hear I will try bouncing them see if they bounce and to see if I used enough salt. For some reason I think I did not use enough salt, they still were kinda soft not really soft kinda between fresh and rubbery. Where i fish the current is too strong ( Niagara River) so i really dont think smell is too much of a factor there.. how long does this cure last for w/o having to freeze it?

There apparently was a fishery for chain pickerel in erie at a point of time, first introduced in New York. I have only ever seen one caught and it was in a trib of lake erie

High winds and rain in the forecast for wednesday, she might stay blown for awhile.

.Ahhh I see, so you pretty much do the same then just air dry on paper towel or something? Ill try that with the batch in the brine tonight, thanx for the idea!

Just a quick one for you steelheaders out here I followed the recipe for cured eggs on www.gettinghooked.net and followed the directions there, adding iodized salt to a container with eggs and water already, adding the salt and stirring softly with your hand, and also adding a tbsp of brown sugar. I let the brine and the eggs sit for maybe 10hrs and strained for 35 mins using a strainer and no water then added the eggs to a air tight container. the thing is ive never cured eggs before always use them fresh or fresh/frozen never cured them So my question is what is the texture of eggs suppose to be like? , they turned a beautiful orange gold colour just like when they came from the fish but the texture is pretty much the same as fresh eggs but it takes more to squeeze them and the juice comes out of a pinhole.. I thought they would be more like rubber and more durable not that im complaining just trying to make sure I added enough salt to the brine.

chum is great not only does it hold fish close to you, you always have a little afternoon snack

8ft is alright for the smaller creeks like bill said keep at it, its a load of fun when you start getting it down. Don't forget quickfish and flatfish, k7 or k8 should work. If you think creek fishing for bows is fun , you should try out the Niagara River 16lbs+ is not uncommon.

I Think you need to read the thread again bubba, no one told him he needs "fancy equipment." Also to the OP, maybe take a look into a baitcaster as well (just a option) thats what I use on a 10.5 and 13.5 and I catch just as much fish as anyone else. the spinning gear will work fine though maybe a little cumbersome at times but will definitely work when you get the hang of it.
