  1. I was thinking about it today, I know burbot are best caught after dark but I always feel iffy being out on the ice after the sun goes down. Call me paranoid but I'm worried I'll get turned around or lost or eaten by bigfoot. Does anyone know of a place that rents huts overnight that would be on a good Burbot lake? Distance isn't really an issue
  2. We fished a woman out of the inner harbour in Toronto in mid February. Thankfully she was still alive and she made it. She was just very cold. She told us she was trying to swim to Rochester to see family. We learned later from the police that she had escaped from her 'place of care' and that they were looking for her.
  3. Was working on Lake Wilcox when I just started and we happened to pull a sawed off shotgun out of the water. I thought it was just a kids toy. When the cops came they confirmed that it had, indeed, been used to comit a crime and then was dumped there. Good thing it was jammed with sand when I was toying around with it.
  4. Can we please fire Romanak? Now he's trying to say it's Reimers fault he got run over for sticking his head outside the blue paint.
  5. The comentators are at it again. 'Stamkos has been relatively quiet this game. And he is known as the leafs killer'. A few minutes later Stamkos scores.
  6. Just got back from Norland. Shoreline was soft but the lake was getting there. Give it a few days and it should be good to go.
  7. I agree with Bill. Phaneuf played bad but you can't hang that game on him. I think you can legit hang that one on Reims. He was letting in a lot of point shots where there was no tip or screen. The one through the legs was real real bad. I know it's easy to start up the 'what if' train, but I think we would have had that one if Bernier was healthy.
  8. There is a lot of stuff I could say about Phaneuf. I agree, the C doesn't wear well on him. I think Komorov would make a great C, or Lupal. Those guys give it their all every game and lead by example. I also think Phaneuf is getting paid too much in a salary cap era, but what can you do? As much as I didn't like when Brian Burke was GM of the leafs, he had a great line that I always think of when people say 'Trade _______' . If we traded him, we'd be out the next day looking for someone to replace him with.
  9. Geez, the guy is a +8 and you say he only has 3 good games a year ? Those numbers just don't add up.
  10. Everyone forgets too, you need two teams to make a trade. Everyone says 'we gotta trade Dion'. Ok. If Edmonton offers you a 2nd round pick for him are you going to take it? I wouldn't. That's probably the type of offers they receive all the time. Or a 3rd rounder for Reimer. Hardly value.
  11. I've been a fan of Phaneuf (I'm probably the only one) since he got traded from Calgary but yeeesh last night was a dog of a game. Saw a lot of guys get around him and he wasn't able to get back fast enough to cover for the odd man rushes. That being said, he is having a much better year. He had a bad game. That's all it is. Oh, as an aside, my dad and I are ready to kill the commentators and the colour guys. In between the 2nd and the 3rd period last thing Millard says 'as it stands now, Reimer is the winning goalie'. WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT? A few minutes into the third Romanak says 'the leafs have never lost when leading in the third' a few seconds later Florida makes it 4-3. Are these guys trying to give the leafs bad karma?
  12. That was bruuuutal. The leafs totally deserved that outcome. Their play in their own end was horrendous.
  13. There were more fish back then because there were less people fishing. I'd take the trade anyday.
  14. Cooch has ice but it's sketchy. Simcoe in Orillia is open and lakes in Norlland are getting there but still iffy. Looks like we have at least another week to go.

  15. To find full time employment. For the love of god, please full time employment. Fishing wise I'd love to see the sturgeon that lives my buddies dock and maybe ice +5lb plus lake trout.
  16. Thanks Joey. In the new year, let me know if you and Chad are free and need a third to explore a lake. It seems like forever since I've seen you gents.
  17. Waiting in a car..... Waiting for True Canadian Outdoors to open. IT BEGINS!

You'd be proud of me. I actually landed some Crappie. (I'll send you the photo when I have some free time)

  18. It's so frusterating. 'You can't build a rink here' 'you can't play road hockey here'. And then we tell our kids 'Get off of that computer and get some fresh air'
  19. The irony is, when I was a kid I thought my Magic the gathering cards would be worthless and I sold those two years ago for $1000. If I had started playing 2 years earlier I probably could have sold my collection for 10x that amount.
  20. Did someone say Mo Vaughn and Ozzie Cansaco (not Jose..... Ozzie). Awww man. So I have a pile of cardboard.
  21. Crud. Is that the same for baseball cards? Born in 84, I collected from 88 to probably 94. I had a bunch of good ones too, Pedro Martinez, Mike Piazza, Sammy Sosa. Worth nothing eh?
  22. How's it looking North of Honey harbour on smaller lakes? I was thinking of doing some recon in Huntsville and the like tomorrow but if it's risky I'll just stay home sharpening my hooks.
  23. Wow. Great fish. And you became a bit of a local celebrity with the size of that crowd.
  24. It's a shame you say no lake. My buddies who guide up in NWT swear by the Greyling and pike up on Great Slave....... Hmmmmm. I guess those aren't trout either.
