Is florocarbon leader REALLY better than mono leader?
steverowbotham replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
I am definitely a believer in fluorocarbon line. Most of the lakes I fish are clear with pretty heavy fishing pressure. That fluoro line is just a small tweak to the presentation that I believe puts more fish in the boat. -
when certain posters make assumptions that all fish in pictures are slaughtered ... people react

If you Could Have the Fishing Moment Back Again
steverowbotham replied to musky_man's topic in General Discussion
In 2004, I was fishing a tournament on one of my favourite lakes. The spot is a near shore drop off. I fished it with a jerkbait and caught some nice smallmouth. There was a new tree blown down along the shore, so I figured I'd try it out. I dropped my jerkbait and picked up a senko. I cast it to the tree and pounded the hook back into a 7+ pound largemouth. When my partner went to grab the net, my jerkbait was all tangled up in the net and other rods. The fish shook off right at the boat. If I could relive it... I'd put that rod down somewhere else. -

Petition to ban the word Epic...
steverowbotham replied to steverowbotham's topic in General Discussion
Well done sir, I shalt useth said word in my upeth coming reports. -
... from OFC Community. Before anyone gets upset, I want to point out that this is a joke. I work 4pm - 12am, 5 nights a week. Often times, work is slow, and I find my way onto OFC, my favourite site on the internet. Well, one of the at least. And every time I log in, I have the word EPIC shoved in my face. Come on guys, if ever there was a word so over-used on an internet forum, it is EPIC. I am guilty of having used the word Epic, and its evil counterpart, Banner. Now, whenever I lay my eyes upon these words, my stomach turns, I need new vocabulary, come on OFC, I know you have it in you ... how about marvelous? stupendous? Okay ridiculous I know, well lets brainstorm and come up with new words to describe those, dare I say it? Epic ... days on the water! Legendary? Exceptional? Outstanding? Extraordinary? Phenominal? Come to think of it..... they dont do the same thing as Epic .... Bring on the Epic reports....

How so!? Honestly, every retail outlet has "door crasher" sales once in a while, thats how it works... there are limited quantities of an item for a ridiculously good price ... do you honestly expect them to have enough for everyone?? I dont understand some peoples thought process, I guess it sucks when you dont get what you want, but its hardly the fault of BPS...
-
beauty laker bud!!!! I wish I got up there this year! I was planning on going yesterday but got called into work!
-
thats why its a door crasher sale... its on a first come first serve basis. when I worked at BPS, we would have people lining up at 6am for a 9am opening to get some of the sales... the early bird definitely gets the worm

Closing Weekend Simcoe Wrap-up
steverowbotham replied to steverowbotham's topic in General Discussion
thanks. it was a great year out there -
Well, it has been a wonderful ice fishing season, probably my best yet! With the help of troutguy and some refined techniques of my own, we put a pounding on the lakers and whities this year. No true brutes, but the numbers were incredible. The season couldnt have ended on a better note. I had three full days of ice fishing in BEAUTIFUL weather with wonderful company. On Friday I hooked up with troutguy and a few other board members for a day out on the north shore. It was the first time this year that we had a decent morning bite and I landed 3 scrappy lakers before 10am, Ryan had 4 I think. Around this time, my dad came out to meet us and we hooked him up with a one man hut and he put a pounding on the lakers, landing 4 over the next 2 hours, while Ryan and I struggled. He left earlier than us, but we ended up with 18 lakers between the 3 of us... Ryan landed 7, I landed 7 and my dad got 4. Pretty much every fish was the same size. Saturday, we had a pretty tough day out there. Fishing was very slow in the morning, and we moved out deep to look for the whities. Dan landed 4 on the bad boyz, I landed 1 and lost a few, Ryan landed a laker and we moved back in shallower. We caught a couple more lakers between us, and called it a day. Beautiful weather, but the fishing was slow! The ice was making a lot of noise by the afternoon. I didnt get any pics today. Sunday we had a good little group out there. Cal, Ian and Brett made the drive up from Lindsay to meet up with Kelli, Ryan, Dan, Weescott and I. We made the hike back out to our whitefish grounds and it was DEAD. Had a few followers and lost 1 fish, that was it. We walked back in shallower after getting a text from Ryan who went in earlier. We moved in and started getting into fish. Cal was up first and landed a nice laker. I landed 3 lakers and 1 whitefish (on 3lbs test). Kelli lost a nice whitie at the hole (kinda my fault), and she landed a nice laker. Brett landed a whitie and .... well lets just say pretty much everyone got into fish! Ryan landed a beauty to end the season! Thats ending the season with a BANG

I am a tried and true fan of Bluewater Optics. For around 100 bucks, you dont have to break the bank but the quality is incredible
-
thanks guys, who's all fishing closing weekend ?
-
Headed out with Cal and troutguy today for a quick fish. We were out for about 4 hours, moving from 90-99 feet of water. We marked lots of fish, but nothing overly aggressive. Cal landed a nice whitie, I got 2 whities and Ryan landed 3 lakers. Not a bad outing, all fish today were caught on tubes. I'd love to see Shane win, I'd rather Shane win, but Gabe's jiu jitsu is ridiculous and Shane is a lot slower than Gonzaga. Shane's wrestling is very good, so IF Gonzaga can get it to the mat, Gabe wins by sub.
-
Shane Nelson vs. Aaron Riley - Underdog bet, Nelson is so quick Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt - This is an easy pick Jason Brilz vs. Tim Boetsch - I think Boetsch will gas early Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day - Day is good, but I dont think he'll solve the reach of Grove Tamdan McCrory vs. Ryan Madigan - I cant pick against a nerd Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller - Maynard's strength and wrestling will win a decision Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz - Munoz is a monster, this is a tough fight to call, I hope Hamill comes out victorious Matt Brown vs. Pete Sell - Slugfest. Brown takes it I think, but Sell could easily submit Brown also. Shane Carwin vs. Gabe Gonzaga - Gonzaga by submission, IF he gets it to the ground Rampage Jackson vs. Keith Jardine - Rampage with a dominant win Who does everyone else have?
