  1. LOL. The guy was 7 inches taller than Mike, but Mike ducked down to make it funnier lol/
  2. It's certainly not for everyone. What a lot of people dont understand is that at the professional level, its a sport. There is so much technical work involved in the game that most people dont get. MMA incorporates wrestling, jiu jitsu, boxing, kickboxing, judo, karate, muay thai and god knows what else. If you're not skilled in any area, your opponent will exploit that. You make a single mistake and you're going down. Rich Franklin put it best, its "working your way through a physical chess match." The brawlers and thugs dont last long in this sport because they dont have the discipline or mentality to succeed, they let their emotions take over. I for one, enjoy the sport, but am the first to try and break up a streetfight.
  3. He is considering the move to 170 lbs. Its a big cut for him ,and he's trying to do it gradually. In June he cut to 185 from 215. In October, he cut from 208. This weekend, he cut from 198. He's getting his weight down naturally before he makes the cut to 170. Mike jumps from gym to gym. No true "home gym" for him.
  4. Alright, so I promised some I would keep them updated. on Saturday, my brother Mike fought his 4th professional MMA fight in Lethbridge, AB. His opponent was a stiff test in Neil Berry, a 6'3 Muay Thai specialist with a Purple belt in brazilian jiu jitsu. Neil was the hometown boy and has much more experience having fought tough competition including UFC vet JAson MacDonald. Both fighters made weight for the middleweight bout, Mike at 186 lbs and Neil at 184.5lbs To start the fight... The fighters touch gloves and immediately Neil throws a superman punch (for those who dont know, its basically faking a leg kick and throwing a straight punch, its a cool looking move, and often catches you off guard). It did catch Mike off guard, but landed flush on his forehead. Neil kept the pressure coming throwing a jumping knee, grabbing the Muay Thai clinch and firing off 3 knees that landed flush on Mike's head. Mike, being a wrestler, took Neil down with a double leg into his guard. From here, he worked a bit of ground and pound before being caught in an armbar. Mike defended nicely and got out where he took Neil's back and sunk in his hooks. He looked for a rear naked choke, but Neil tucked his chin and kept good wrist control keeping Mike from locking the choke. Mike moved to an armbar from back mount and locked it in TIGHT, you will see in the pictures how contorted Neil's body is. Neil refused to tap, and Mike let go of the armlock eventually and let Neil into his guard where he locked up his other arm and finally forced Neil to play to 3 tap symphony at 3:16 of Round 1. Now for the pics! P.S. Mike's the much shorter, chubbier one. lol. Weigh-in pic Touch gloves Absorbing a nice Muay Thai knee to the temple Double leg takedown Neil grabbing the armbar on Mike Mike taking Neil's back Mike's 1st armbar attempt he still wont tap second armbar Checking on his opponent Is your arm okay? Victor! Hope you enjoyed!
  5. I'm on the fence on this one. I used to work at Canadian Tire (5 years ago now), and they are generally understaffed at most times. Trust me when I say its frustrating for the employees to have lineups of customers waiting. The skate sharpening in the winter gets ridiculous and takes up far more time than you could imagine, but its an important part of the service they offer, I can remember spending entire 9 hour shifts sharpening skates because they kept coming and coming. There's only so much that employees can do to keep areas tidy and in shape, believe it or not, its the CUSTOMERS that make the mess and rearrange the aisles moving things around and out of place, not the fault of the employee. Canadian Tire was their own product codes that are labelled on the boxes AND on the price tags, you could do a check on them if you're not certain. MAke sure the names match up even. If the product codes match up for your item and the sale item, then I'd make sure I get a deal, but it sounds like you just picked up the wrong skates from the wrong spot, not uncommon.
  6. never ice fished it, but fishing it in the open water season can be pretty incredible
  7. I made a post earlier about my brother fighting tonight in Lethbridge, AB. I just got a call from LEthbridge and he won by armbar at 3:16 of round 1. I'll update this when I get more info and/or pics. For now, here's the pic from the weigh in last night
  8. We had an electrician in to fix it, and he lives in the building. Doubt he'd want to see problems in his own building
  9. updated the orginal post
  10. We fixed it. We bought it as a rental unit, so there were 2 seperate fuse panels ... one of the cartridge fuses on the main breaker switch had gone, replaced it and we're golden. thanks for the advice, and big cliff, thanks for the offer.
  11. No power to half of our house (only half) including our furnace... replaced fuses, nothing! Getting cold! Any ideas ?
  12. On Nipissing I catch a lot of whities through the ice at night, almost every night I've fished there actually. I dont see why Simcoe would be any different.
  13. Sean's a good fighter. I've seen him fight a few times now. He fights at 170 though, and until my bro makes that move down from 185, there's no chance of it happening. Although it would be a good fight between 2 good ground fighters.
  14. They certainly do! I made the mistake of allowing my brother to kick me in the thigh a couple months ago... lets just say I limped for the rest of the day and the bruise lasted almost a week, and I dont even think he went all out.
  15. I wasnt that into it either before he got into it. I watched a few events here and there, but now I have a true understanding of the sport. I cant recall my brother ever being in a streetfight, hes very disciplined, and he keeps in touch with all of his previous opponents. Being at 3 of his 9 events, I got to see a behind the scenes view of it. I expected everyone to be "angry bullies". Its the complete opposite, everyone is truely humble, very nice people. The angry kids dont have the discipline to last in a sport like this where one mistake can cost you.
  16. In the winter, a thermos of hot chocolate. ... sometimes a bit of Kahlua In the summer, 3 bottles of water and 2 red bulls.
  17. LOL. hes got a ways to go before that will happen, and we definitely wont be seeing the UFC in Toronto that soon, although it would be nice
  18. thats wild, makes ya wonder
  19. I have stayed at Idle Tyme in the past, and I enjoyed it. I prefer the bungalow style trip, but if you're into cottages and day huts, Idle Tyme is a great place
  20. As many of you know, my brother has been fighting mixed martial arts for the past 2 years. After compiling a 78-8 record in high school wrestling, an OFSAA gold medal and a National Greco-Roman Championship, he needed something else to take up his time. After going 6-0 in amateur MMA competition, he has had some struggles as a professional, losing his debut by SPLIT decision to Tim Smith, who is undefeated in 4 bouts since. In his second pro fight, he defeated the hometown favourite Mike Zvonick by armbar at 2:14 of round number 1. In his 3rd pro fight, he took on a monster of a man in undefeated KEto Allen, and after a great first round, he succumbed to a hard kick to the liver in round 2 and was forced to submit, something he said was one of the hardest decisions he ever made. We are T-minus 5 days from his return to the cage as he looks to defeat Lethbridge's Neil Berry at RITC 33 in Lethbridge, AB. Wish him the best of luck in the fight, and the weight cutting! UPDATE It's fight night. Mike's the Co-Main Event, and it should happen around 10:00pm MTN so 12:00am EST. I will update this with results. Mike made weight at 186lbs while his opponent weighed in at 184.5 lbs. Below is the weigh-in pic
  21. ^^^ LOL
