Just got back from my 3rd trout adventure up in Quebec....the weather wasn't the greatest but it didn't stop the fish from biting...We slayed the Rainbow trout and caught our limit in less than 24hrs from arriving there last Friday, but we ate one and then did catch and release and then caught a 10th one before we left....the speckles were a little more difficult to catch compared to last month but we managed to keep 5 along with 3 Lakers. I got my hat trick with catching Rainbows, Specks and Lake trout....The Rainbow trout ranged from 2lbs to almost 6lbs. Look at the size of the Rainbows on the fish cleaning table

You guys are having some good trips this year.

Thanks Lew...yes it's been awesome for trout this year!! Cooler temps are coming so hopefully it will be a good fall for Muskie. I might squeeze one more late September trout outing if I can find someone to go up with me.

Very beautiful and healthy looking Rainbow there TroutnMuskieHunter. Good scrappers I'll bet.

Sweriously Barry? Those are some of the saddest pen reared stocked on demand trout I have seen.
Pay to play is all good but those are mutant fish.

Alright, good for you man. Pretty hard to beat catching trout, especially Rainbow on a fly rod.

You would love the world renowned Bow River that flows through Calgary here. It is a fly fisherman's paradise. There's lots of write ups and photos on line about it if you feel so inclined.

My personal best on the Bow is 13lb rainbow, 2x in two casts. above the Carseland weir. forty minutes south east of Calgary. This day I was spin fishing for a change rather fly fishing. I often wonder what may have happened had I been using the fly rod. I'd likely still be fighting them LOL.

Carseland weir back in May. Water's dirty from the rain. Fish ladder on the right and above on the far bank near the white sign, You can't see it but there is an island there that I caught the two thirteen pound Rainbow from. It isn't uncommon to catch Brown upwards of 10lb right below the weir in the turbulence.

Oh I know the joys of a fly rod, I was raised with a fly rod in hand not long after I learned how to walk. My Grandfather who taught me never fished anything else. Sadly he suffered severe Emphysema from his coal mining days which severely limited his mobility and thus Trout stocked ponds both public and private were my domain were spent until he passed. In time my Uncle actually had a Trout rearing facility where he raised Rainbows, Brookies and Arctic Char the commercial retail market as well as pond stocking, including his own pay to use stocked pond. All that being said, those fish would absolutely be fun, fly rod or otherwise and they would fight considerably more if they had been reared in a better environment and released with their propellers intact.

I found a new Pourvoirie that I went to in May that has natural/native Arctic Char and Speckled trout.....I caught 9 Char and 1 Speck using the fly rod and the 3lb'ers fought exactly the same if not less than the 3lb stocked rainbows.....I reserved a cabin for next June up  there for 6 days ;) I'm also going back to the Pourvoirie I just came back from....been going there for 10 years now. AS far as being raised with a fly rod, you're not the only one. The trip we just got back from was with my 46 year old son and he (as well as me) was raised fly fishing  ;)
