lew Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 As I've mentioned here before, my son was an iron worker for 20 years before being killed in a fall on the job. Apart from putting up skyscrapers, his company also erected and dismantled those huge tower cranes like the 2 that have collapsed in the last couple weeks. Years ago I knew my son was dismantling a tower crane in downtown Toronto but I didn't know exactly where. I had the noon news on and they reported a crane had collapsed and one of the guys working on it had been killed. I called the police station closest to where the accident was and told the person on the desk I was trying to find out if it was my son that was killed. They transferred me to the officer in charge of the station and he told me he wasn't allowed to give out the name of the deceased until next-of-kin were notified, but said to give him my son's name and he could tell me yes or no. Thankfully it wasn't Jim but to this day I think of that every time one of these cranes come down. Those guys do a job most would never have the nerve to do. 3
