we have a 3D printer at work,

amazing capabilities .... being able to build a prototype vehicle in 6 weeks , wow

 

he says that he wont see it being used for mass production in his lifetime but I think certain components for sure ....

Even Canadian Tire carries a 3D printer now.

It's made by the folks @ Dremel.

T'aint cheap though.

Considering that in the mid eighties a Commador dot matrix printer costed over $300, that is not a bad price. Ten years ago I certainly didn't think that I would be able to pick something like that up for $1300.
