Fantastic shots btw. Hang off buying one till the new Tamron 150-600 comes out and gets tested could be a winner I was going to wait till it came out but the Sigma fell into my lap
BillM Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Yeah, the Tamron 150-600 is also on the list. A few tests having been coming out, waiting to see some real life comparisons.
Twocoda Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 I have the same lens ...i find it soft at the 500mm range but very good at the 400 - 450 range...its been a learning curve with the lens but i find mine is best at F8 for action shots ,,,,but for the money ...its very good...Congrates on the new lens and nice shots
BillM Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 No issues with autofocus at f8 in the higher ranges? (say 300-500?)
Rodbender Posted January 23, 2014 Author Report Posted January 23, 2014 No issues with autofocus at f8 in the higher ranges? (say 300-500?) It was a lot faster than my 55-300 so far its good it's getting a work out next week when I'm in Florida

Not on my Nikon...not sure how Canon fairs out with the lens though ...i could use 51 focus points but only use 21 or 9 when tracking birds..it seems to hold decent now that i have the other settings on the camera kinda sorted out...im still experimenting for better shots ...

Twocoda Posted January 25, 2014 Report Posted January 25, 2014 Im running the D7100 now....D800 is my next body though...and the DG lens will work on full format bodies so thats a bonus....
BillM Posted January 26, 2014 Report Posted January 26, 2014 Talked to a buddy who makes a living with his camera. I asked him the same question, (Sigma vs Canon).. He let me know that the Sigma is extremely slow to focus during action shots... Stills, not a problem... I think I'll be getting the Canon.

Heres an action shot I took fast as can be, too fast I forgot to zoom out
BillM Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) Good shot, my Canon 100-400 should be here this week Are you using a monopod with that behemoth? Edited February 11, 2014 by BillM
Twocoda Posted February 14, 2014 Report Posted February 14, 2014 It has VR 1 and 2 and only weighs 4 pounds so a mono or tripod isnt really necessary Nice shot RB !
BillM Posted February 14, 2014 Report Posted February 14, 2014 Even with 'IS', at 500mm even a wee bit of shake will mess up a photo.. A monopod at least is a cheap investment for more keepers.
