FloatnFly Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) Why not stick with the bait caster he's got already and get a nice 10 1/2 foot medium wt. steelhead rod. For his " drift/float fishing " in the tribs I don't think spinning gear is any advantage. i think thats how most of us stream fisherman started, i know i did, down at the ganny with a 9.5 ft spinning rod and reel, used it for 2 seasons, saw the advantage of the longer rod, so i upgraded, used aspinning reel on my 11.5 ft rod, the next season got my float reel the only advantage comes when doing the 'hero' drifts of 50yrds or more. most cases you have a 10-20yrd drift at most and the free spooling has no advantage Edited July 23, 2013 by FloatnFly
BillM Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Hero drifts on the eastern ditches? You'd probably start a riot, lol.

fishinguypat Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 I got the acculite and the damn thing broke when I brought it home, I think it was defective at the tip though. I honestly say go spend a hundred and get a shimano or something with a guarenteed warranty
redpearl99 Posted July 25, 2013 Author Report Posted July 25, 2013 I ended up getting a Fenwick 9'6" Medium 8-12lb salmon/steelhead rod
redpearl99 Posted July 25, 2013 Author Report Posted July 25, 2013 Question though, what size pink worm should I get? Leberin sells like 6 different kinds (i.e. gulp, gulp in jar, powerbait ... Etc)
danjang Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 3-4 inch non floating is what I use. I don't care much for the gulp ones. Smells terrible! Regular plastic ones work fine.
BillM Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 I like the Riverwood worms.. Get down quick, great colours. To be honest though if I'm going to chuck worms, they are going to be real ones
redpearl99 Posted July 25, 2013 Author Report Posted July 25, 2013 where do you get the Riverwood worms? Lebaron doesnt seem to have them and all the gulp / powerbait ones are floating worms
BillM Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 where do you get the Riverwood worms? Lebaron doesnt seem to have them and all the gulp / powerbait ones are floating worms Last pack I bought was at Kingsway in Guelph. I'm sure a bunch of local TO shops carry them.
bare foot wader Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 the gulp earth worms in the jar are the best, stopped buying real worms, they stink and they work
farsider Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 Jb's carries the riverwood worms where do you get the Riverwood worms? Lebaron doesnt seem to have them and all the gulp / powerbait ones are floating worms Cheers, Mark
