2013 Ice Season Recap

Well another ice season has come to a close. It's a bittersweet day. I'm sad it's over, but now I can take a month or so to catch up on some sleep and turn my focus to spring crappies and jumbo perch. I had a very fun season, fished with some great friends and enjoyed some quality fishing. My first day on the laker grounds was January 25th and I enjoyed almost 2 months of targetting them. I caught lakers as deep as 123ft and as shallow as 53ft. I wasnt marking nearly as much bait this year as I have in past years, but definitely noticed more lakers coughing up young herring at the hole. They're certainly not starving out there. I also noticed a lot of fish coughing up gobies, which is the first season I've noticed this. Not to say they didnt eat them before, but they are definitely becoming a strong forage base for even the deep water species. I caught fish on a large variety of baits this year but my go-to's were definitely the X-Zone Swammer and a lipless crankbait. I got skunked several times, and I managed a few days with over 20 fish. That's the way it goes out there. High high's and low low's. I hope you enjoy some of these photos and my highlight video of the season! Until next season, Keep It Reel!
