Asian fresh water jelly fish

Talked to some people on our lake (Nosbonsing) and they have seen what has turned out to be Asian fresh water jelly fish about the size of a loonie, clear with a white X. I have not seen these yet but will be on the look-out. Not sure what the effect of the lake would be. Anyone else seen these?

had me nervous for a second there after watching a program on ( box jellyfish )

 

looked up what you described ... they are actually quite common ... and pretty much harmless to people .

might irritate someone with sensitive skin .

They seem to like to feed on mosquito larva ... so they can,t be all that bad .

Someone on this board reported seeing them take over a lake up north a while back.

The dragonflies won't appreciate the competition

Probably Craspedacusta sowerbii, these have been seen before in Kashagawigamong, and apparently aren't that uncommon at the Gravenhurst docks. They won't harm anything in the ecosystem (except unsuspecting daphnia and copepods), they just go along their business very quietly.
