singingdog Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 In case some of the "southerners" were thinking that the mild temps were limited to the GTA: I drove from Haliburton to Huntsville yesterday. The only ice is on very small lakes, and you could throw a rock threw the thin ice that does exist. Large lakes are completely free of ice. I think that trout opener may be an open-water affair this year.
mukluk Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 Thanks for the update singingdog. Let's hope for colder weather with no snow for a week or two.
Jds63 Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 was hoping to have game of ice hockey on Haliburton lake on New years eve, even that may be wishful thinking
jimmer Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 was hoping to have game of ice hockey on Haliburton lake on New years eve, even that may be wishful thinking Maybe water polo! Bring the wet suits. Just kidding! This sucks.
skeeter Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Well there's a little more ice on them today. The rock cuts along 35 have solid ice where the water usually seeps out of.
otter649 Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Mountain Trout House Marina on Lake Kawagama near Dorset & not far from HWY 35 has a video camera aimed on to the lake/marina which is updated every 10 minutes as well as having weather conditions listed. www.mthmarina.com
OutdoorDan Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Thanks for the link, otter. The Dec. 18th conditions make it look promising!
Jds63 Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Haliburton has a webcam on their communications tower atop the lookout. Streaming video allows you to see Head Lake and surrounding hills. http://www.halcom.ca/haliburton.php
