brandon Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 (edited) Last night insomnia proved to be productive. As I was laying in bed I started to see flashes of lightning coming from west of Detroit. at about 230am the storm got within shooting distance so I got my camera out and started firing away..enjoy! Hellfish Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 well done. Is the EXIF data in tact? You sir have serious talent.
brandon Posted May 13, 2011 Author Report Posted May 13, 2011 Thanks guys...Hellfish, I've added all the shot details below each photo.
misfish Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Brandon, excuse me ,as you already know Im ignorant at this photo stuff. How did you capture the lightening? Was this manual or auto? Im reading up on this stuff . Thinking it,s going to be my new passion hobby. I,ll pic yer brain via pm after this. GREAT SHOTS BUD.
Hellfish Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Thank you for that Brandon. Is there a reason you used iso 800 instead of adding a extra second or two for exposure?
brandon Posted May 14, 2011 Author Report Posted May 14, 2011 thanks again everyone! Brian, the way I shoot lightning is basically the same way I shoot a time lapse. I manually set the exposure, then I take one exposure after the other hoping to capture some lightning. Each exposure is anywhere from 2-30 seconds. Hellfish, the 800 ISO was just what I was trying that night. I'm still new to lightning photography and was merely experimenting. Next time will be smaller ISO with a longer exposure.
Handlebarz Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Brandon those are some amazing shots and yes that was a wicked storm as it passed here.
Hellfish Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Well ISO800 worked well if you ask me. The purple/pink is something else.
