At 3 years old a kid can learn all the basics in and hour and a half at a simple place like Grenadier Pond in High Park.

-respecting others' space

-respecting the environment by cleaning up a little litter

-watching the float

-feeling the tug of a fish

-wetting your hands before handling the fish

-the importance of catch and release

-having fun

New Vocabulary

-float

-line

-swivel

-leader line

-eye (of the hook)

-rock bass

-bait

-sinker/split shot

2 rock bass in about and hour and a half. We had a totally great morning.

Congrats! I remember fishing grenadier pond when I was younger. When you run out of worms? Try cutting up the bait fish in little chunks. And set up a drop shot type rig with a few hooks. You'll be surprised with the results. Only place I ever tried this and this Portuguese guy showed me.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was definitely as excited as her when the float went down. It'll be a good alternative this fall on the days the rivers are blown. I'll just head down decked out in all my steelhead gear.
