see if you can catch ol' hook straightener....gonna bring the flasher in?
-
I figured you'd get that one....hope the dynamic duo has a better showing next weekend. You're probably going to have to take the reins on organization though. I can't talk too much I only walked from hole to hole this weekend no hiking for me.

Yup no weight at all...fished from 20 to 80 feet...best luck was 45-50fow....long time going to the bottom but worth it.

Right on Anders, gotta love bagging new lakes....close to 20k...thats a haul. I dont suspect anyone had trouble falling asleep after that. Love to see those LSPP reports (when folks actually catch fish... )

During the work week Weather Network stare down, it seemed the mercury was trending up and the weekend promised to bring mild temperatures and would offer a mixed bag of sun and snow. Regardless of which type of weather the trout wanted to feed in, we had it this weekend. After work we filled up some trucks and made tracks to a cabin, the -25C temps weren't overly inviting, so with the fire roaring, we retreated to a local hotel to watch some hockey and let the cabin warm up. A period later things were on the right side of 0C it was time to serve dinner and drink. Planning and strategizing proved difficult and required the 7 of us to stay up into the early morning hours, to ensure a proper organization. Day 1 was a trip into a nearby lake with stocked rainbow and splake Some folks chose to drive to the access point, it was a pleasant morning so I opted to drive my sled with a 'boggan in tow. Following wolf tracks to our spot we drop lines to fast action, small splake and perch were present in droves and hungry, their numbers and diminutive size were not picture worthy. A few better rainbow were caught throughout the day, I managed one around 3lbs. One gent hooked into something substantially larger, after a tough battle on light tackle, up came a 27" splake, a beauty! After tapered off, though more of all species were caught until dark. Dinner and drinks followed...details are not particulary clear regarding events or conservation, however it seems those who didn't catch any fish took it the worst. Day 2...time for lakers! With cloud cover and snow flurries I was certain today was going to be good. We set up near a saddle, covering 2 islands, a point and a mid depth flat, many holes were sunk for those eager to move and shacks set up to provide warming stations. The first 5 mins saw a nice jumbo laker come up to the hole on a jigging rap, a staunch conservationalist, the gentleman unhooked the laker before his head came up the hole. The bite slowed....dead minnows on a hook (with no weight) were all the whitefish and lakers would take, a light touch was required to get them to commit, akin to Lindy rigging on ice, we took to finesse tactics...and it paid off. Craig Stapon, celebrating a US victory at the Juniors and enjoying catching lake trout I hit a beauty, that fought like a tank, I thought it was going to spool me. Outside view The weekend was awesome, great company and pretty good fishing.

Honestly, if you were asking for ice conditions in wawa cool, its a drive, but this is literally in town, go check it out and make your own calls. I know I'd hate to sink a sled cuz someone on the computer said it was safe.

There were the solid beginnings of one every saturday night last winter through steelhead season, nothing like the post fishing wing nuts session Actually starts anytime the Northgate Shopping Plaza is open eh Luc....

You guys missed the snow it seems...talking to my family in VA they have been having a hard time after those storms a few weeks ago. Keep it up GCD, looks like that suit will be put to good use. Of course you could always bring a little sour mash along and fish in a t shirt.

My favourite reply to "Is it a good idea you go to camp again?" "You'll learn"

Another classic....some solid fish and good action.

Great show Dave and Co. probably one of the most unique episodes I've seen on a fishing show.... 2 Comments 1. The tuxedo T shirt should make an appearance in every show 2. A complaint, I wish you would show some excitement when you get those big fish on... Keep up the good work

I'll think of you guys on the snowshoes, while we're driving down the ice road on lotw.... Luc keep an eye out for those tubes for me!
-
Luck man, thats the best type of icefishing there is, miss it a ton. Put em back up there and tell no one where you went!
-
Right on Simon! Can't wait to get out for them on the weekend. We should get together with some of the NWO folks for a day/weekend on the ice.
-
Thats great! No excuses now. Lenny tell Mr Burns I've gone home to work on the auger rack....
-
Thanks for the insight folks, I've got a plan in mind just need to take action.

anders the last few years the gold pimple (small size) with textured gold foil has been deadly on lakers in the park....both open and hardwater. Pretty eye opening as I've had no luck on them until then.

Well I've got a bit of an issue, I'm in the process of building a box to store my icefishing kit on my sled, but don't want to rush the process and want to think out all my storage issues. In the mean time I'd like a way to attach my auger to the rack of my sled (2000 tundra) I have been thinking about atv gun mounts (the "Y" type) are these strong enough to hold an auger? Appreciate any help...I'm going out this weekend and hope to avoid a complete yard sale of gear.

Good on you for getting out. Where we had the cabins for nye just iced over on tuesday....not for me. Didn't seem any vehicles parked on the drive up through the park on sat. some tracks are gmit and going down the road though. I know that tree....wonder if you would do anygood fishing the stream out from the campsite or those logs across from it? I've done best across the last few years....don't want to move too much in those temps once the fire is going though.

You all missed a point on that Lund....address is Sudbury....our fearless protagonist could not manage that drive remember.

Those are classic...put a bell on the end and its music to me out on the trout lakes. I've seen regular large spools of line rigged with a small piece of dowl to facilitate reeling in. These were just hot glued on.

Part I look forward most to Christmas is being over at my parents places in the few days around the 25th. Someone will drop over for a drink, then someone else.....usually ends up in a full shift. Far more important than the big dinner and gifts etc....the chance to catch up with family and friends and enjoy a few laughs. The best part is most of my family lives within walking distance, so no driving!

Have you thought about a canoe? The purchase of a boat seems a little complex for you.

It was released, they were covering its eyes trying to get it into a shack to take photos, so they eye didn't freeze in the cold.
