It's been 2 weeks--It's now been 4 weeks update

Thanks for all the reply's folks. Smoking is still an issue it appears. Would be good for us all if they just banned it altogether. Wow are you ever right about that Jersey. Friday and yesterday were almost as bad as a couple days later. But fine today, not a bit of craving. I am really starting to feel better, no more cough in the morning and less huffing on the stairs. Good luck to all that want to quit in the future. I hope you can do it. -
Steve whatever it is/was I'm almost sure it the problem is moisture related. Get that belt tensioner checked. The voltage should not have dropped out if the engine continued running. The starter did continue to crank the engine so it must have decent reserve capability. If the alternator was pooched it would not have came back up at idle. So that only leaves me the wet/loose belt theory. Shoot me a PM if you need any more help.
-
By any chance has your alternator belt been squealing lately? It's possible in the wet weather that your belt was slipping. The automatic belt tensioner on these models were susceptible to siezing and allowing a loose belt. Wild. Vacuum leaks usually cause high rough idle. There are still several things that it could be ..I'M just trying to hit the common ones first. I don't think it's an alternator issue now.
-
Geez. Hate when that happens. Was it raining when this started to happen? Need to scan it to find the code.
-
When you crank it over to start does it seem to crank slowly? If your battery was good the voltage should stay at least 12.5 volts. If the alternator was working properly it should maintain voltage and not stall. It's possible if the battery is in poor condition it may have overloaded the alternator and burned out a winding. Still need more info.
-
Can you read what the voltage drops to before it stalls. Is it below 12.5 volts?
-
Steve it can be tricky to diagnose without verifying but from what you are saying it's probably your alternator. It looks like only a portion of it is charging. There are 3 windings inside and one is likely open circuit. when you rev up the engine the other two are capable of bring the voltage up enough to turn out the battery light. I think I have misread as well. Did it stall first and then the battery light come on?

There are a lot of good winter tires out there. Softer rubber compounds and more space in between the treads give a better bite into ice and snow. Yes-check your antifreeze strength and clean up your battery terminals if there is any corrosion on them. Block heaters are important to those that live in colder climates too. We replace or repair a lot of Cords. If you leave the end of the cord sticking out the wires inside will eventually break off, usually just an inch or two behind the plug. So it's a good idea to tuck them so the wind doesn't flop it around. Windshield wipers and washers. Refill your washer tank before it gets real cold. If you dont use your washers much the alchohol evaporates out over the summer and wont leave you much freeze protection. So if the old stuff is in there chances are it will freeze in the lines. Personally I dont care for winter blades because they catch too much wind and lift the wiper off the glass. But if you use the conventional style the wiper arm fills full of ice and wont conform to the windshield curves. The new armless blades seem to be OK but boy do they bend easy, especially tricky if they are froze down. Use what best suits you. And don't forget the usual stuff. Oil levels in everything, engine, transmission differentials, transfer cases etc. Good idea to buy a can of silicone and spray around your door rubbers too. This can be real helpful on an icy day. And while you are at it lube up your door locks and latches. If I think of some more I will add it in.

I really liked those sleds Sandbag. Quick, handle well and easy to service.

I keep telling myself. "Only 5 more months until April" I just took this outside my window. Looks like 6 to 8 inches of the damn stuff.

Like I said . It was in the past and things have improved. But not entirely. Why am I replacing brake lines on GM vehicles that are 2004 models. Why are suspension components becoming bad on Chryco and why did the trans drop out of my sons 2005 F150. Why did the Camry I had last close to 400,000 km with no major repairs. Not bashing anyone here. Just calling it as it is. PS. By the way. Do you remember the transmissions in Aerostars and Bronco II"s from 1986 to 1990? They were a bit of a problem. But not according to some.

In the late 80's I attended a service managers meeting with the auto company I was working for. I was speaking to an engineer about some designs. I asked what their plans were to repair a common problem with a couple of vehicles. He looked me straight in the eye and said with a smirk "what problem?"
-
I will defend Rich on this part of the debate. I am the guy on the opposite end of building cars. I repair them. The quality of domestics has improved, but it may be too late. In all fairness to the guys on the line I don't believe in the past couple decades you can blame them for the quality. Engineering is/was to blame for most of it. Designed only to last so long as cheap as possible.

You are just a young buck. Dont wait until you feel the effects at 50 or even 30 for that matter. QUIT NOW! Egads, I'm preaching already -
Power steering fluid will work just fine TJ. Too many different types of transmission fluid now for me to feel comfortable recommending using it for hydraulic applications such as yours. Go and see Randy at Bensons.

Never even thought about using something Skeeter. Last time I tried the patch and it didn't help me much. But honestly I believe it was because I wasn't committed to quit. Have never heard of Champix but I am glad it worked for you. Perhaps it could work for others wishing to quit as well. -

It's now been 4 weeks and NO SMOKES. Been going OK most of the time now. Had an awful urge yesterday at work and today just sitting here with no pressure. Funny how that goes. Had that dream daplumma said I would last night. Ha I did feel guilty. Hope these major urges go away soon. Wasn't this bad the last time I quit. -
I think one of the points being made here is there is an us against them attitude in a lot of union workplaces that isn't as apparent in a non-union workplace. In family and non union shops there is a more unified attitude that allows better productivity and quality.

Not ticked at all Glen. We don't have any escalators up here.
-
That's gross.

Get together with GCD and discuss your issues Art.

A Sturgeon Falls swill? At Tj's ? Hmmmmm OK!!!!! When?
-
Strange. I have never been so busy. Booked ahead for over 2 weeks. Perhaps instead of buying new, people are fixing up their older vehicles. Hope it keeps up here anyway.

I do believe Beats that it is your right to not have to pay for something you did not request or authorize. Take it up with the service manager and get your refund.
