  1. Sorry....I just stopped laughing at your white shoes. The pictures tell the tale Joe. It looks like you and your family had a great time. Terry, I seen him catch a pickerel before.
  2.    :w00t:
  3. Thats incredible!. I was out on the Seadoo watching several storms go by that day. Missed that sight.
  4. You didn't mention weather Joe. Seems anytime you come to visit here you bring a rainstorm in the winter or freezing temps in summer. Must have been those other guys. Glad to see you caught some fish too. Honk the horn as you go by? You could have made it a pit stop here.
  5. Attaboy there Glen. Neat pics. That one does look like a tree doesn't it.
  6. Icehouses were even before my time. Maybe Glen could enlighten me on them. There is still some sawdust on the floor, but no ice. Guess a heater in the backhouse will be required for some southern softies. Ya...more fishing coming up. Been doing OK though, been out a few times.
  7. Now what would a southern guy like you know about an icehouse? No resume required from you Glen. Anytime you want to come up and pound a few nails and do a little fishing you would be welcome. Thanks for the kind replies Mattones and Daplumma.
  8. Posted earlier this summer of this project. The pic below was what it looked like before. This pic I took today of where its at now. Just finished the shingles. WHEW! Heck of a job to do by yourself. First time shingle job for me. Ya I have pounded down a few shingles before but I was the guy that the lead hand always yelled at "GET ME MORE SHINGLES" A bit more trim and another coat of paint the outside is complete. May work on the inside a bit this winter. The next project is an old icehouse. The walls are a little tilted but ok. The roof is shot. But not this year, enough work this summer already.
  9. Usually after the storm there is a strong north wind on Nipissing. It wouldn't matter if it was calm, it's normally a waste of gas to try for the wallyeye after the storm. Have better luck casting daredevils off the dock for pike. Seems to make them a little hungrier.
  10. I love reports like this one. Makes you feel warm all over. Big Cliff has his heart in the right place.
  11. Good stuff Jack! Definitely quality posts.
  12. Ya..... ugly looking thing..... but have you ever seen one of our local dock spiders?
  13. Glad to see most here have respect for others. Some comments I see are somewhat sad. Not sure where society is going anymore. It seems as if we can't tolerate anything that doesn't go the way we want it to.
  14. Fellows, Carpentier and Villenueve are doing well at this point. Be great to see a Canadian 1,2,3 finish.
  15. Mine is a 2000 model with 8000 km on it. Use it for many things. Mostly for pushing no start cars/trucks into my shop and plowing snow through the winter. Lots of power and rugged. It's a workhorse but not a great trail machine. Adequate but rough riding and somewhat tougher to steer on trails. If you are going to pull trailers full of wood or a moose out of the bush it can't be beat. The step through getting on it in fall when I have my hunting gear on and maybe a passenger is great. Been very reliable. Only a couple minor repairs.
  16. Lots of interesting information here. Fishing all my life on Nipissing I can't say what works well on other lakes. But here I have fished with many fisherman and they all seem to have an idea of what works best. But I stick to what works well for me and I have made quite a few converts to what I use. Medium action rod, fast tip with a spincast and Fireline (still need to give the powerpro a try) with a homemade jig, trailing hook with a worm. The reason I like this setup is I anchor at a reef close to where the pickerel may be. I start to cast around the circumference of the boat until I catch one and target that area. If the hit is at the end of my cast I will try to let out more anchor rope to get a little closer. Try to anchor a long way upwind to allow movement in your boat by tying the anchor rope at different positions on your boat. Jigs are from a Cabelas Wobble jig mold and are usually chartreuse, pink, orange or plain white. The shape and design of these are less apt to snag in the crags of the rock below. But if you don't snag once in a while you probably won't catch them either. The spincast works better for casting distance with a light jig. Often the pickerel bite so light guys with mono don't feel the hit. Braided line takes some getting used to but my opinion is heads and tails ahead better. In the article by Phil Rolfe he stated "I tried but quickly abandoned the no stretch hi tech lines. With those lines, there is no give, so the rod has to handle all the shock." My thought was maybe he should not have quickly abandoned it. I agree with solopaddler on fishing deeper through the middle of day. My wife likes the sunshine so a lot of my fishing time is 10am to 2pm. Believe me they do bite well at these times too. Just thought I would share my experience here.
  17. Many "depends on" questions here. How much use will they get? how many amp hours are the battery's? How old are they, do they still have good reserve? And if you do charge them off your vehicle a completely dead battery can overheat alternators. Alternators on cars are designed to maintain charge-not recharge a dead battery.
  18. Often guys will ask me "where did you catch them?" I never tell. I sometimes say "come on, lets go" If they are trustworthy we go to the good spots.
  19. That's a better call Rich. Original manufacturers warranty's are better. They stand behind them much more than the third party warranty's do. Peace of mind is sometimes ok. But don't kid yourself-they do make money on these warranty policy's.
  20. Stay away....Far away.
  21. Often I find that the fish are so close to the bottom they don't show up. They appear as part of the bottom. Last Wednesday a buddy and I caught our limit and not a fish showed up. We were in 27 ft of water.
  22. Sooooo Roy, was your first new Ford a model "T"?
  23. LOL. My wife drives a 99 Caravan. A customer gave it to me when the tranny went for the third time. (By the way-I didn't rebuild those transmissions)
  24. I agree Dan. I also run a 96 F150. I love this truck. As a mechanic I don't care for working on my own stuff. Been incredibly reliable. I bought it 5 years ago with 223000km on it. Doesn't burn oil at all, everything works. These were the last of the old body and powertrain trucks and were well made. I put a set of new leaf springs in the back and coils in the front to pick it up a little and fresh paint last year. Hope to keep it going as long as I can.
  25. Looks like a lot of fun to watch Mike. Great post. Never been to a drag racing track. There isn't one anywhere near here. From the looks of that wish there was.
