Yes, may have had something to do with emissions standards. Although we did end up with a bunch of new 2 stroke 20 Mercs this year. They went like hotcakes.

No ads Wayne. Just trying to help the guy. Notice I said nothing about an E-Tec.... :

You may find that if you really do some comparisons with different boat company's with all things being equal with HP, aluminum thickness and options you will find a better boat for the same price.

A 20 footer with a 115 will be a dog. Loaded up with people, fuel and gear will need a smaller prop to get it to plane within a reasonable time. This can sometimes lead to more fuel consumption. IMHO the 150 would be the minimum.

Is it legal to target off-season fish with immediate releases?

There were guys casting for bass on Nipissing as well. I gave up saying anything. -
Some guys are catching a few at this end of the lake, but mostly small ones right now. I suppose it's a good sign.

No problem at all Cliff. I know you have helped out many here, and to be able to help you help others is a pleasure. It's great that many of us here are able to help one another along! Just to clarify to those that may get the wrong impression on me and outboards here is the story. I'm an automotive mechanic, not an outboard guy. I do have a history in boats and motors and work in an environment that is somewhat unusual. My auto shop is part of a family operation that includes marine. So I do have access to this information.

I wish everybody had one......

This is quite a compliment coming from a man that makes an exquisite fishing rod. Thank you Chris. It's a great winter project to do these Will. I have several to choose from for next winter. Thank you Craig. It was an idea a couple years in the making. Takes a while to put all the plans in place. I have a line on another one identical to this. Thinking about putting the pair on maybe a new one. Very preliminary plan at this point.

Very good Terry! You gotta fish to catch them I'd sure be tempted to keep that pickerel.

Yes it is. It is an early version of the "Powassan Special". A narrow body 16 ft. It's light enough to pull up on shore single handed and roll over to clean if necessary. I'd prefer the "Nipissing" model such as the ones at Lakair as they are more stable but this is a fun one to drive. It was in fair shape when I got her but the cedar was badly discolored, beyond sanding the stains out. So I painted it the same colors as the old cottage. Just happens to match the colors on the 1958 Johnson.

Always had a cedar around Paul. That particular boat was made in 1949. My grandfather died in 1950. So he had a hand in making that one. Makes it extra special. I fixed it up a couple winters ago. Thank you Bushart. Your art is also to be appreciated, you do very good work. The original designer deserves the credit for them John. All I did was paint it!

Don't mind at all Wayne. I hope it does bring her a smile.

It does for me as well Lew. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting him I think of him when I work on it. He had his name written on the inside of the hood. I left it there. New points, coils, fuel lines, water pump and carb kit. Runs as smooth as new.

Thank you New ones are still being made. PM me if you need more info.

Thanks Roy. They are a work of art. So well made. Stop by and we will take it out to troll for some muskie.

As many of you already know, two outboards were worked on this year. The first one is on display but the second was destined to be put on my old cedar. Well the finishing details were finally completed this morning with the application of the decals and a couple other pieces. Had to shave the transom a little to get it to fit on. The older engines don't open up as wide. Fired it up and went for a spin. Whoo Hoo! Works great, zips right along. A thank you goes out to Wayne for the heads up he gave me on an auction last summer.

Looks real nice Brian. Good price for sure. Red paint is the most expensive as well.

I have some pictures but they take a while to download on dial up. I'm hoping Cliff will post them. Mike, somewhere close to Cross Point. Brian, it would be good if you could make the trip sometime.

Hey...ummm...You guys want to come up again this weekend? There's some leftover pork to be eaten.

I ask my good customers to stop by if they call me with a check engine light. I will do a quick scan to find out what it is and let them know how we should proceed. I do not charge for that. It puts their mind at ease over it and we usually make an appointment to do the repair. Good customer relations goes a long way.

Hi Gerritt. The flashing you are seeing is a code in the SRS (supplemental restraint system). You may have a problem in the system or possibly when you reconnected the battery it may have triggered the flashout. Have not seen this happen before. Try disconnecting the battery for twenty minutes to drain the SRS capacitor charge and retry it. Let me know how you make out with it.

It's one thing to read the code but another to figure what caused it to happen. A lean O2 code can mean a few things. Of course it could actually be a contaminated O2 but also the system could be running lean due to several factors. Vacuum leaks, plugged injector, mass air sensor, some other sensors, misfire can also cause the code. Unless you have some experience, a good multimeter and along with some manuals you could easily end up spending more than a good service shop could do the repair for you. The more expensive scanners can read the data going into and out of the system which a code scanner cannot. This allows an experienced guy to often figure a problem quickly. On the other hand, you won't learn anything unless you try either. Just throwing this at you from a voice with a little experience.

Sunday May 22, 2011 - The day I lost my fishing partner
Bernie replied to fishnsled's topic in General Discussion
So sorry for the loss of your father Will. Although I never had the chance to meet your dad the stories told and the great son he raised tell me much about the man he was. God bless him and you.
