It's been the same in the past. From 3.1 to Win 95, 95 to 98, 98 to ME(HORRIBLE), and on to XP. Each time required faster processors, memory and hardware upgrades. O yes, bigger hard drives. Stick with XP for minimum a year. They should have at least some of the bugs worked out and the new DVD will have the updates installed on it. This process will repeat itself again in 5 or 6 years if history indicates.

Wow ...Roy...Those are beautiful. Well done.. But do they catch fishermen or fish Jk

Thank you for the replies everyone. I will attempt to bring a bunch to Lakair. Might have to schedule another night with the guys to do them. But whoever gets some will be responsible for tying on their own trail hooks.. Thats the biggest pain in the .......

Wheel weights work just fine Big Cliff. Try to use the uncoated ones because the coated style give off a stink. Let the lead brew for a while and gently stir or vibrate the pot to get impurities to surface. This gives a better pour into the mold. My brother and I have several molds and will pick up new or old ones if they look like they will cast a good jig. The stuff we use has accumulated and evolved over the last few years to the point of making it a somewhat fun and easy procedure. I have shown this pic before of the finished jigs with a trailing hook before. A couple of these ones have had a seasons fishing on them.

The guys are saying to me "just what the heck are you looking at?" Way to go OFC

Hi Folks..Smokey, I used to paint them by hand in the past too-never stayed too well either. The powder paint is trickey at first to get the proper heat to get the smooth finish but after a couple of tries it gets easy. I dont bother to bake mine because I have found by the time it gets worn off the hook is finished anyway. Jen as far as colours go we just use the ones we find the most effective. Each of us has their own pereference. White is almost always the base coat. Shades of green/yellow,blaze orange, hot pink are my favs.

This past evening a couple of us did our march jig night. We get together and run a mini assembly line. We made about 200 last night. Next step after tonight is tying on the trailing hooks. The ones we prefer for pickerel are the wobble jigs these are flatter style with a slight curve. They tend not to snag as much in rocky bottoms and do have a slight action to them. Here are a few pics. Setting the hook in the mold. Doing the pour into the mold. Me trimming the cast. My brother Mike and friend Larry on the line powder painting. Some of the finished jigs and powder paint colours.

Wow..Lots of great pictures. Way to go gang. These are not particularly photogenic shots but ones that I'm proud of my son Nick and also my apprentice Ash who built cars for our local fall fair demolition derby. They both built great cars. Ash was second overall and was a big crowd pleaser. Unfortunately Nick lost battery connection and was eliminated early. These derbys are a lot of work to prepare for but a riot to do.

I also apologize Urbanangler. I can take a jest or dole it out as well. I dont believe now it was said to offend anyone.

Agreed Wayne. I think the message is clear. Over and done. Haven't been to the show for about 10 years myself. I remember as a kid being there in 1965. All the "new" outboards and being totally fascinated. Those years are long gone. As far as "deals" at any kind of show are rare now. Costs are too high to allow them. Transporting wares to and from and floor plans are crazy expensive.

So Im out of your town. You calling me a hick? Are you representing Al Flaherty? I would fire you in a heartbeat if you used that term on one of my customers. Be careful what you say. Sorry Kennyman..Just rubbed me the wrong way.

For those days of rain and cold and wind prefer a top and windshield. Also the top protects on those hot sunny days too. Creature comforts are nice.

Need Help! Can't decide between 2 Spinning Reels
Bernie replied to Minnow's topic in General Discussion
Two years ago ran into a friend working the fishing show. He advocated the quantum as a great reel. I bought one. Used it for a month just to give it a fair shake. It now sits on a shelf unused as a spare. Back to Shimano. Guess in the last couple years improvements may have been made but I am happy with what I'm using now. -
Geez....not sure that I want to find out either. I just wanna go fishin'
-
How about a classic Cedar? Not what you are looking for I know. But we still make these.
-
Hey Glen. You look a lot younger with your glasses off. Maybe next time you can measure your fish in metric. Makes them seem a little bigger. Love the pics. Wish I was there fishin' with ya.

Just a note that I have seen customers purchase small cuddys and never use them. Couple years later they are back wanting to trade in. Take a hard look at what you are going to use it for the most. Keep in mind a larger boat is harder to take care of off season as well. Personally use a Glass but it is plunked in the water in the spring and stays there till fall. Pretty hard to go wrong with a Crestliner as well.

I make my own jigs as well. Dont think you can buy them cheaper than making them. You also get colours you like. I use powder coat as well. Found clear powder coat couple years ago with different colour metalflake in it. The mold I have apparently isnt available anymore from Cabelas. We will be making some likely this week. Will take a photoshoot of the process and post it.
