  1. So today's progress has me to this point and the option for the customer to choose between light bronze or dark bronze reel seat hardware. Until he responds, the shop lights are off for the rest of the day and I have some Walleye ready to cook up for dinner.
  2. Thanks HTHM, but after having tried numerous brands the one above is the only one I will use as it's proven to be the best brand for my needs.
  3. I need more of this Barry, it's what gives my reel seats a hard coat, high shine finish ......
  4. A little progress this morning until I ran out of a much needed product.
  5. A year ago this coming October I made a one of a kind reel seat and butt cap from a Blue Spruce cone. They ended up on a Walleye rod for my SIL. Well I have been tasked with doing it again for Sage Float Rod build. First time...... And round two fresh out of the pressure vessel this morning.....

Well I managed to make the trip out to London today with a buddy to pick up my new reel. The "Tigers Eye" now has her little sister the "Cats Azz" at home. Now it's high time summer moved along and let fall get under way.
  7. Buy your fresh cut Christmas Tree now and not only beat the December rush, also save 75%.

The one pictured is 5" and has the knurled rim, mostly worn off now. lol Yes, I too had to file down the overly large foot to get it to fit the reel seat. The 4.5" reel is smooth edged. I still have my Grice and Young as well, they were a bitch for line getting behind the spool, but the spool release was quick and easy.

There is an elastic band to be seen here on the old LG Custom CP reel pics. Don't fret over the death grip fish hold, I ate it! (also note the hat)

You don't see it Dave but there is one there. When your give back cabochon a 1/4 turn it engages a pair of micro detent springs, not to be used however when fighting fish, just to maintain line tension when the hook is in the keeper. I have two of the original LG Custom (Stanton style) reels and they're extremely well used, now retired, they were always paired with a rubber band or hair scrunchie.

Well, it's finally completed and I have just received a few pictures of my new toy. Looks like I'll be road tripping next week to London Ontario. This folks is the "Cats Azz!"

I think all hardcore anglers love their toys AKRISONER and the more hardcore we get the more expensive the toys. Many thanks for the props.

I am old school Dave, I've been doing this since 1975. The reel pictured is 5 and 3/8's and little sister reel I had custom made to match is 4 and 7/8's.

The handle for my new rod build is now finished and I'm a showing just a portion of it here with the "big sister" reel that will soon be replaced with the smaller diameter "sister reel" that I hope to pick up in the next week or two.

The "soon" to be in my possession reel does have a name. This is the medallion that will grace the presentation box that the reel comes in.

More progress today. The reel seat has been mortised and the hardware has been glued on and it's now clamped until tomorrow while the glue sets. I also finished up the final shaping of the fore grip and inserted a matching insert to the butt cap.

Progress is slow but I'm still advancing. This seamless all cork design handle is almost ready for installment onto the blank. I just need to mortise out the reel seat to accommodate the reel foot.

The line up to get that blank off me CM as you can well imagine is rather lengthy.
  20. This..... "No consideration was given to those fishermen already either with booked accommodations or those with planned trips," True fisherman/anglers don't plan their trips around this annual rape snag fest!

I'm somewhat torn on this one CM. I have an old Loomis 1562 IM6 I've considered building but given that my shoulder and wrist issues are a big factor these days I'm thinking it will most likely be an 11'6" CTS in a 4-8 line rating.

I got around to starting the rod build yesterday for this new custom reel using a supplied piece of acrylic in the butt cap with some in house dyed Poplar and a hunk of vulcanized rubber fashioned in an "Old School" Float Rod style.
  23. Happy Anniversary wishes to you both. Cheers 🍻
  24. Oh I know the joys of a fly rod, I was raised with a fly rod in hand not long after I learned how to walk. My Grandfather who taught me never fished anything else. Sadly he suffered severe Emphysema from his coal mining days which severely limited his mobility and thus Trout stocked ponds both public and private were my domain were spent until he passed. In time my Uncle actually had a Trout rearing facility where he raised Rainbows, Brookies and Arctic Char the commercial retail market as well as pond stocking, including his own pay to use stocked pond. All that being said, those fish would absolutely be fun, fly rod or otherwise and they would fight considerably more if they had been reared in a better environment and released with their propellers intact.
  25. Sweriously Barry? Those are some of the saddest pen reared stocked on demand trout I have seen. Pay to play is all good but those are mutant fish.
