Thanks for the tips everyone Will definitely take our time - the rope tip makes sense and I think this is how we will proceed I believe we will be able to track the wiring and scout for tie downs through the storage compartments on the side of the boat - will do a thorough look through before beginning the installation... Will be doing the work shortly after walleye opener in FMZ 17 Boat needs a good clean, vacuum and some TLC - so we will have it out of the water pulled into the driveway at the trailer getting her ready - ideally followed by an afternoon/dinner time fish! Just picked up a new transducer at Lebarons in Mississauga today today (which was packed at 2 PM-opener's must be approaching) We cracked our old one on the rocks. The cable runs from the console to the back tucked underneath the side of the boat. Anyone have any tricks on how to pull the old cord out while being able to track the path for the new cable? We didn't install the old one. Nice guy at Lebaron said to tie a string to the old one, pull it out and use the string to guide the old one? I'm not quite sure I got what he meant. Any help appreciated Gordy

Wife and I just got back from our annual Niagara Falls trip. We are big fans of the Four Points by Sheraton. Same complex as the Hilton but less expensive. Joined to the new casino and close to the falls. Plus if you do the package deal you get a shuttle pass and a $40 gift cert for the Keg in the Embassy suites (which has an awesome falls view section). If they are planning on a weekend visit make sure they make a reservation at the Keg. Another tip-park at the casino-walk is easy to Four Points or the Hilton and its $5 for as long as you stay during the week and $10 over the weekend. Thanks Mike Both my grandfather and my great uncles had the amazing stories: 8 of them fought in world war 2-my grandfather with the RAF in Africa My grandfather loved to fish for trout-he took us to Greenwood or Claremont every year to fish for trout at the opener. What always amazed me (think this was a result of the poaching/hiding from wardens thing back in Scotland) was that he could get a cast going from anywhere-like on his knees shooting the line back underneath overhanging trees to hit the right drift If the Scots/Canadian thing is interesting to you-theres a book called How the Scots invented Canada-great read

Awesome post I think its been mentioned before solo-but you should write a book. This makes me think of my own grandfather. He came to Canada from Scotland in his 40's following other relatives. He was an acoomplished fly fisherman in Scotland since he wasn't rich though-he poached or used a 13 foot spey fly rod to fish for salmon on family trips to the sea side. When he got to Canada and found out you could pay $4 and fish pretty much anywhere you wanted he took full advantage! So many good memories-hes the reason my brother, cousins and I fish for sure. He also liked to spin fish-but his favourite thing was to take us all (5 kids) down to the rosedale bridge on Balsam lake in the early ing. We would dunk worms and he would cast poppers or muddler minnows with his fly rod for small mouth. I saw him catch a 5 lb smallie once and a 4 lb walleye on a popper! As my Dad used to say-Pop was just a fisherman with a spinning rod-but he was a magician with a fly rod. To this day the movie a river runs through it gives me chills-the Brad Pitt going down the river with the fish on reminds me of my pop

You’re an experienced fisherman – better than me by far – and I catch at least 80-100 fish (mostly pickerel, some pike, some lake trout) over 4 days …couple years caught 200 fish Quality of the cabins – Rustic. Not the Holiday inn, but have the basics, bunk beds, propane fridges, stove, bathroom with shower. Anyone else had success with them? Going on a newe tri this year - and guess what is on the must bring lure - you guessed it hot n tots in firetiger

I too am a multi store shopper I really like JBs Fishing Depot, great service, awesome selection (hard to find bass stuff and one of the best if not the best muskie selection in the GTA) Sometimes though if I'm looking for something very specific I hit Lebarons in mississauga or BPS Sail at Vaughan is nice but doesn't have the selection or prices like Lebarons in my opinion I go to Burlington for work the odd time so will definitely check out the smaller shop mentioned previously I think it's important to support local as well to a point. The point being this local guys wallet. So do I mind paying 1 to 3 % more, not at all. But 10 percent and up I'm going the cheapest route possible

Will be used on a 7 foot ML rod Plan is to use it for rigging, spinners and topwater-so will most likely sppol with high end mono Just interested in people opinions re quality-I have 2 Shimano reels-never used a Pflueger Thanks Gordy

Favourite thing to do as a kid was to go there with my brother a grandfather. He always let us get one of the big grab bags for $5-remember those? Just a brown paper lunch bag filled with a few cheap lures, always a bobber and a pack of hooks. I'll never forget the year my brother scored and there was a little jackknife in the pack. My grandfather let him keep it as long as we didn't tell my Mom. Also loved the b ig ice creams cones-the ones where its a square or two squares of ice cream that they cover in chocolate and nuts. Good times

Little further south of Destin - New Port Richey Tarpon Springs area we have been out with Captain Rich Knox-quality Captain, quality fishing. We went for Sea Trout and it was a balst-non stop action, few fish over 5 lbs and best of all we kept a few, Cptn fillets them, drops them off at the little tiki bar at the marina and we were having fresh fish 3 wasy, with amazing homemade slaw and potato salad with ice cold beers. http://captrichknox.com/

You can also camp on the lake Friends of mine did it a few years back and enjoyed it. Think it cost them $45 or so to get around the dam and they camped on one of the islands for 3 nights

Hey there I have been to Lady E twice Stayed once at Ellen Island Lodge-which is a housekeeping only, boat to lodge-they do offer packages where you can bring your own boat. We liked Ellen Island but had brutal weather the year we were there-and found after battling the elements all day - making our own meals and cleaning up after ourselves was a pain. That said-cabins are nice, owners are great as well. If I had to name the downsides I would say that the people who ran the lodge were not great at putting you on fish-we relied heavily on others in the camp for tips. Next time we stayed at Island 10-full american plan-slightly cheaper than Red Pine. We loved it-great cabins, hosts, meals etc. Better weather that year so we did much better with the fish-plus Ken the owner made a point of getting everyone going withtheir maps etc each morning (re okay based on weather today I'd try these spots) Overall Lady Evelyn is a huge body of water that has both numbers and size (the week we were in camp top 2 walleyes were over 30 inches, sm bass over 5 lbs and two pike over 40) we did okay for numbers as well-and we are definitely not walleye fishing experts, nor experts in fishing northern lakes. There are two main parts to the lake (which is actually an impounded river) one is relatively shallow, other is very deep. You can fish high and low so to speak Heard good things about Red Pine and Garden Island Lodge as well (another American plan operator) We are planning on returning in the next few seasons for sure

The Moose in dowtown North Bay has awesome wings Lots of sauces For a great greasy breakfast try the Texas Burger in Fenelon Falls We hit it every walleye opener at Balsam Lake

Sandy Beach Trailer Court on Balsam Lake has some boat sites for rent for non trailer customers Benefit would be that you need an access card to get in and out of the docking area, its in a quiet bay (so boats don't get pounded by the wind/waves) and its a good launch

My thoughts are the same as everyone else Know a few legend owners-all like the boat but most wish they had upgraded the engine. I actually think the ads they do in Ontario out of Doors, shows and other places are borderline false advertising: 16 and a half foot fully rigged boats with. 25 horse for under $10000 is not a great deal IMO

Being relatively new to the forum I almost feel foolish jumping in-but the concept is too ineresting not to; Few thoughts; For my work I have followed the Wag Jag/Group On trend quote closely. Generally I hear: great for consumers but not so great for the retailer/business. The basic premise is to use Wag Jagz reach (number of emails) they can go to to generate store sales. The challenge is there are requirements for how big the discount may be etc. And most retailers end up giving up most/all profit on the idea that someone comes in for the really cheap stuff, and buy more (loss leaders as someone mentioned) challenge is that most poeple don't return-they just wait for the next sale from the same or similar retailer This idea is different to me and better. You are saying use the size of OFC to create ongoing offers for retailers but ideally prices set are good but not at a loss to a retailer Per somone elses idea to me the best concept is the idea like; OK OFNers deal of the month/week is Shimano Compre Spinning ros for 20% of the retail price if we as a group buy 100 rods. Rods available for pick up at these 3 locatios etc or shipped for $x That way you aren't storing inventory or having a large cash outlay to buy ahead Anyway great idea and I will watch with interet (I'm in the market for a new rod, reel and a fish finder )

Loved the Last Guide Anything by Roderick Haig Brown (founder if the tyee club) Fish Fights is a good read -about a guy who spends 18 months fishing for a variety of salt water fish (and 1 lm bass) in florida I got the Great Book of Bass for Christmas last year its a good reference/instruction book Finally in my opinion anything in the In Fisherman Critical Concepts series is worth a read

True although you can pre order your beer through the lodge-just over order, and it would probably only be 2 ferry ride in. When we were there 11 of us (4 different groups) went in at the same time Anyway-good luck with your search!
