Oops had the wrong team. During the 2004-2005 season NHL Lock out, Chris Chelios played for the Motor City Mechanics. Chelios was able to play because he didn't have an NHL contract. Chris Drapper was going to play for them during the lock out but he was still under contract with the Red Wings.

The Plymouth Whalers play less than 20 minutes from my house. When the NHL had the lock out they were selling out because they had a few pros playing for them (i.e. Chris Chelios). It gave them a lot of exposure & helped sell some merchandise for the OHL.

The only thing we can do about the high gas prices is bend over & take it like a man. Don’t expect a reach around in return. It’s doesn’t matter what government you are talking about, they all could care less about high gas prices because they make off with the taxes on gas. I think I’ll need to look into getting a good bike that I can tow a canoe behind. I had to change my fishing plans for this weekend due to these gas prices. Was going to fish the north side of Lake St. Clair for some smallmouth (Michigan has catch & release season) but have since changed that to fishing the Detroit River for some walleye since the launch is less than 20 miles from my house. I was going to fish the Kawarthas for the musky opener but that plan has been canceled.

With the high gas prices that toy will make a nice daily comuter.

It's funny that you say that Whooper. My brother-in-law & I once used duct tape to attempt to seal off some leaks on a 12 foot tinny that we had barrowed. It didn't work too good but since we were in a bind we had no other options at the time.

Looking for a batter or breading mixture for my fly-in

Walleye is pretty good dipped in milk & then into some pancake mix. Good stuff. -
Was Dick Cheney hunting up there?

Has anyone noticed the ads in the Google banner? One of the ads has an ad for www.fishinghurts.com. This site is run by P.E.T.A. & they are against fishing. One of my other fishing sites had this same ad in the banner & the admin was able to block the ad from appearing. If the admin on this board can block that site please do so.

Congrats on the new Fisher/Tracker. Very nice boats. I really like the new bow rod storage.

Generally your looking at around $75/hr for labor plus parts. They usually bump the price of the parts up at least 35% of their cost.

I have the same lock set & no problems on my end either.

Cut the hook & let her go. If she lives great! If not that's what the circle of life in the fish world is for.

That little guy looks kinda like a "mooneye". There is a bunch of those in Lake St. Clair.

Nice fish. I caught my 1st carp of the season as well. A 27 inch 14.4 pounder. Was actually fishing for pike on Lake St. Clair & caught the carp on an X-rap. The carp had the belly hook in her mouth, which totally surprised me. I would have thought I would have snagged one before they would hit my lure. She put up a great fight. Pulled our 12 foot tinny & turned us 180 degrees. The carp are stacked in the shallow, protected bays of Lake St. Clair right now. Get out there if you like catching carp. My buddy also caught one about the same size.

What area did you catch the most at? The one pic looks like you were between Alter Rd. & Peache Island. I was planning on going out there this morning but I'm too whooped from fishing St. Clair most of the day yesterday. BTW nice job.

Most people here in Michigan smoke suckers like you would do for salmon.
-
Yes the guys at Cabela's are a lot more helpful than BPS. The guys at BPS always want to push the BPS brand stuff on you.Their fish tank is great especially the salmon tank & the Steelhead stream.

I don't have any fishing dreams that I can remember but this past Sunday night my wife said I was yelling "Get the Net" & she looked to see if I was awake & of course I wasn't.

To add to the other replies, if you're going to be fishing in the weeds a Lindy Fuzzy grub jig tipped with a leech is killer on walleyes. I prefer a chartruse fuzzy grub & sometimes a blue/white work good for me as well. Use the lightest jig you can get away with to get the bait down to the bottom, which will depend on the wind, waves, & current. You don't need a leader & fishing without one will catch more fish.
-
Yes the live bait room is still there. It's a nice store to visit but they rarely ever have any good deals like BPS does at their Spring Classic. If you go to Cabela's, stay out of the so called "Bargin Cave" because there are no bargins to be found in there.
-
You must not have caught many walleye then.
-
Ya I know a guy that caught a few off of Peach & some other guys that did good out of Alter Rd this past Friday & Saturday. Some real die hard guys to go out in that cold. They said they had to chip some ice off the boat. Also heard guys caught a few by the salt hills & Trenton channel.

Drink plenty of water.

Nice catch you got there. Me sooooo jealous!

An Abu Garcia C3 or C4 is a great reel for muskies. A Shimano Calcutta is also good. If you're going to be throwing a lot of bucktails go with a high speed reel.
