  1. Belleville. Wouldn't think the experienced guys would wanna leave their nice boats/set ups to show a rookie how it's done lol. Sorry, didn't mean to get the thread off topic.
  2. Or time of year. I don't even know the different types of salmon. So yeah, I'm lost lol.
  3. I don't even know where to start, really. They came with my boat (along with a couple 9' rods, balls, etc..). The lakes I fish for trout are usually small lakes that don't require downriggers, leadcore/steel line is all that is needed. I've wanted to try Salmon fishing in Lake Ontario but I have no idea whether those rods could handle it and my boat isn't exactly a big water boat. On top of that, I wouldn't even know where to go, what depths/areas to fish. I'm completely out of my element when it comes to that.
  4. Because they're scary, and icky!
  5. Nice pike! Too bad about the one that got away, we all have them. lol
  6. I love catching pike. They taste pretty good too. I caught a couple more yesterday (pair of well fed little 24-25" fish). I'm hoping I can catch a 40" pike this year. Very underrated.
  7. I have two downriggers but don't really know how to use them.
  8. The horror!!!! I was still asleep, I guess it wasn't enough to shake me awake.
  9. She's had a wolf, Bears, moose all in her front yard in recent years. I think I'm more nervous about it than she is lol.
  10. I bet the sound of them going at it would make the hair on the back of your nect stand up. Listening to house cats fight is an annoying enough noise lol.
  11. That's like arguing walleye/pickeral. I said mountain lion because I have seen LOTS of cougars in my lifetime.
  12. Last night, my mom (who lives in the Bancroft area (past Paudash right on Hwy 28 to be exact) was going to take her dog outside (miniture poodle) before heading to bed, but her dog was scared of something and refused to go outside to go pee. Well not long after that my mom hears weird noises and her neighbour who lives right behind her phones her and lets her know that two mountain lions were fighting in his driveway right down the hill behind her place. She saw them (could only see the shape of them at night and obviously wasn't going to try to get very close lol) fighting with each other and making terrible noises. She said they were huge, looked like two adult males by the size of them. It's a little disconcerting that she could have been outside with a nice little snack on a leash just moments before.
  13. Wow those a nice gar! I've only snagged a tiny one by accident while musky fishing but I've seen some pretty big ones swimming around, I haven't had any interested in my lures yet. It would be nice to catch one on purpose on lighter equipment. Very cool looking fish.

  15. Everyone to Mike's for a BBQ!
  16. I use almost exclusively braid but I've been wondering how long it lasts. My reels have line on them that are 2-3 years old, should I spool it with fresh line?
  17. I have to go up to Bancroft tomorrow, too....
  18. I grew up fishing bass (and catching lots of panfish at the same time) but a few years ago I started catching walleye, pike, musky and lakers. Musky is my favourite but I love just fishing for anything. I'm going to try to switch it up a little more this year. It's a huge thrill to catch a new species.
  19. You can tell he makes people uncomfortable when he puts his arm around them and talks/yells into their ear for the next minute while they're holding a fish. Plus he's obsessed with sausages, even if they are one of his sponsors. I like watching musky hunter and occasionally The Next Bite.
  20. Haha relax, musky are pretty stupid too. We give fish way too much credit. It's not very hard to fool them. But when a pike hits a lure that's covered in weeds, yeah, I'd say they're not too bright lol.
  21. Yep I've caught pike as small as 20" on 8-9" baits. Pike are pretty stupid.
  22. At the same time though...bass and pike often occupy the same waters, with there being a lot more bass (at least where I fish) and in May they are insanely aggressive. If I'm targeting pike in May I'm almost guaranteed to catch more bass than pike. When they're both in the shallow weeds what can I do, besides not fish pike at all?
  23. Tried fishing for pike on the Trent last year in April (where pike is open year round) using small musky gear (mostly 6" depthraiders which have done well for me catching pike). While I raised 2 pike, I ended up catching a musky that day. I kind of felt bad about it but what are you going to do? If I was using bass rods I risk the chance of catching bass or walleye. I just cut the hooks out of her and back in she went. It's almost impossible to exclusively fish for 1 species (unless it's something like trolling for lakers where those no other big fish that deep). I don't see how you could be charged for using musky gear unless you're throwing 12-16OZ bulldawgs or something ridiculously huge. Even still, some waters hold trophy pike that would hit those baits.....usually not in Spring though.
  24. Am I talking to Bob Izumi's kid or something? lol Don't worry, I don't think I'm a threat to anyone when it comes to fishing competitions. I've been out fished by my nieces....the first time I took them fishing.
