New found love for Bass boats

Funny you mentioned that, I was fishing with a guy I know through work yesterday and he lost a bunch of tackle when a tray from his tackle box blew back and hit the motor and opened up, thankfully I was able to grab his tray before he lost the entire thing and we we able to find about 5-6 more lures floating on the surface. I definitely don't have a bass boat though haha, gotta have things secured pretty damn well in those things. I once found a hat of a guy I know a day after he lost it, about 2 miles down the river from where it blew off his head lol. -
When is it Too Hot to Fish Musky Safely?
Dontcryformejanhrdina replied to Dontcryformejanhrdina's topic in General Discussion
I've been fishing usually in 8-15' of water (in pretty shallow lakes) so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. My main concern is it's not easy for me to do a water release when I'm fishing alone (rod length plus for my own safety if the fish thrashes while trying to unhook it can turn ugly) and if it's in the net while I unhook it it's going to be in the top 2 feet of the water column where the water is pretty damn warm. I take all precautions I can with the fish and have never lost one but don't want to start now. I never have the fish out of the water for longer than 10-15 seconds max even when I take a photo though. I was planning on making a trip to Scugog for the day late this month with my brother but I was wondering whether I should bother, thanks for the replies guys, it's giving me some hope that I won't have to stop fishing them until September. -
Hey everybody, I was out fishing yesterday for musky/pike yesterday and the water temps were hovereing around 79-82 degrees. I kept fishing since a guy I know was up from Quebec and wanted to fish. Never saw a musky but got into a few pike (only his 2nd ever). My question is when is it too hot to be able to catch musky safely and release them? I was going to go out today but with how warm the water is it changed my mind, I don't want to kill any fish. Should I put my musky gear away until things cool down a bit in my area? (or I can fish further up north where the water temps are always cooler). Thanks.

Dontcryformejanhrdina replied to Stoty's topic in General Discussion
Wow, 9.6lbs is insane for up here! It's not so much the length that matters but the girth. -

keeping only one treble hook on a jerkbait, which one?
Dontcryformejanhrdina replied to snagged's topic in General Discussion
Definitely the front hook. I use husky jerks a lot and the fish always seems to have the front hook in their mouth, not even sure if I've ever caught one on just the back or middle hook. -
Nicknames for Bass, Pike, Walleye
Dontcryformejanhrdina replied to rhymobot's topic in General Discussion
Our family moved to the country when I was 3, my oldest brother was 11 and he was a city kid back then. He caught a tiny catfish while we were fishing and he thought it was a mutated bass. We still tease him about that one lol. -

If you wanna catch rock bass, fish Paudash Lake. You'll catch 10 an hour easily. They have (or at least used to) a rockbass tournament every year for kids just to get rid of some of them, people will come in with bags full of them. I remember talking to a kid I knew at one of the tournies years ago and he caught over 30lbs of just rock bass that day, and he didn't win lol. -
Congrats! I'd be thrilled just to catch 1 50" this year, let alone 3 (so far)!

Need Pike fishing location advice tips
Dontcryformejanhrdina replied to hotsky's topic in General Discussion
Rapala husky jerks are incredible. By far my favourite bass/pike lure (walleye like them too), just twitch/jerk them back to the boat and enjoy the violent strikes you'll get. Stick to the weeds and you'll find the pike. -
Nice fish! I still haven't hit the 40" mark this year. Been raising some nice ones but only catching small ones. If people are so worried about harming muskies, why not just give up fishing altogether? Geez, let the guy enjoy his catch!

I haven't been in AP that time of year but I grew up in the Bancroft area. Black flies are done, there will probably be mosquitos out at night but during the day I imagine there will be a lot of deer and horse flies in the bush.

Welcome Luke! Sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders and have your priorities straight, your parents are fortunate to have a kid like you. I hope your family's health problems become a thing of the past.

It would be possible for Toronto to re-sign Staal even though he'd like to play with Eric. What he really wants is to be a top 2 center. The guy gets no powerplay time at all. As a Pens fan it would suck to see him go because he's a very good all around player but I understand why he wants out, he'll always be stuck behind the 2 best centers in the league and his potential is too high to be 3rd line center for his entire career. But considering what Ray Shero got for Goligoski (Neal and Niskanen) it probably won't be cheap to get him.

Gorgeous fish!

I'll be in Kash on Monday. Good luck out there!

The Bay isn't very deep at all (at least where I've been, not sure about Hay Bay), downriggers would be useless. Of course I've yet to catch anything in the Bay other than dink perch and stupid bass so my opinion on this matter blows.

I was a leash child too. Apparently I was a wanderer lol.

That was more in reference to the "Mine are 9 and 15 , I do the same " quote, and even then it was said tongue in cheek. I just find it a little too much how so many people automatically blame the parents and act as if they never made a mistake, like you mentioning your kid falling off the couch. NO parent is perfect, no matter what you think. Who knows, maybe the parents are bad and were passed out from smoking crack, or maybe the parent was distracted for a few seconds while in their yard by another one of their children, a kid can wander off out of sight in 5 seconds and the next thing you know the parent doesn't know which direction the kid went, goes the wrong way looking for the kid and a few seconds turns into a minute which is more than enough time for a child to drown in a neighbour's pond. Like the article posted by HTHM mentioned, a child can drown very close by without even hearing it. Freak occurances happen, what if your kid never fell off the couch, but pulled a large picture tube tv onto itself or something else top heavy when you turned to answer the phone? Doesn't automatically make you a careless/terrible parent. I'm not going to automatically condemn the parents without full knowledge of the situation and act as if nothing bad could ever happen to my kids, that's all I'm saying.
-
Really. I know of a few times as a toddler I wandered off (I'm the youngest of 5 kids, it was impossible to keep an eye on everyone at once). Thankfully nothing bad happened, which is the case 99.9% of the time. As scary of a thought as it is, you can't protect your kids from everything, and even something like drowning can happen in a very short amount of time. Can somebody HONESTLY say they've never had their kids out of their sight for 30 seconds? If not, then your kids are going to need a good shrink when they're grown up lol. There's a reason they're called accidents.
