Taking some pics to redo the back yard when.....
woodenboater replied to Harrison's topic in General Discussion
mmm, next photo should be bunny after bathing in a hot oven with red wine and mirepoix -
Actually, Swamp People is a pretty good show. Yeah there's lots of 'drama and near misses', but for reality shows, it does get into the cultural roots/way of life that gator hunters have and that this is the only life they know. Having been down there just after Katrina, I'm amazed that people continue to live and work in an area that may very well get hammered again. I thought it would be pure drivel but it's a better watch than Deadliest Catch imo.

You can take your boat as close as you want but if you set foot on or touch facility property, you will be in trouble obviously. Was told this by security detail when I remarked about the waters probably making for good fishing, kinda like the old Hearn Generating station in Toronto and it's outflows.

Stayed at Totem Point one year but Bryer was one I had also considered. I enjoyed it and they're slowly renovating their cabins one by one but the boat rental rates were a bit on the high side I thought, compared to other places on Wolseley at least. Like many lodges, they had families that have been going up for several generations which I always find encouraging and a good sign.

you've got two more months to crack the secret Dana and the scenery will only get better. agree with justwannafish lol. hold it it close to the camera and slap a wide angle on and it'll look like Moby Dick

Will the suspension and fine be recorded when they reapply for their licences ? If not it should, then who ever rubber stamps these things can go "hey wait a minute..." and turn them down or IF they get it, the next CO should really haul their asses through the gauntlet or make them swim home. yeah, I dream big lol btw, wonder if they lost their car as well ?

Great photos Jet and congrats on opening your sushi restaurant, looks like a must visit ! Can't get enough of sushi and one of my Toronto favorites changed hands not too long ago. More importantly, it's good to see that you're making the time to hit the streams, life balance is good

thanks for the update monsterman, sounds like you had a great time and it's a place I should keep in mind for future trips. Mind if I ask if it was a quiet campground and was there much motorboat traffic on the lake ? tia wb

So Aurora are kinda like the Holy Grail of Ont fishing or is that too much praise ?

That photo was a surprise to me so I checked the regs and apparently the season is Aug 1- Oct 15 for 2011 and closed the rest of the year. It will be closed for all of 2012 as a sanctuary. Must still be an at risk species... Those Montreal R bass look great, I might have to check it out next time I'm Temagami way.

Read the liveblog on MMA Fighting but can't wait to see the fight on a later broadcast ! Was ringside when he dismantled Diaz at 129. The guy is going places if he can keep this pace.

BassPro have this listed on their site, whether or not its in stock at Vaughan. Two marine shops have told me this is as good if not better than Sta-Bil http://bit.ly/odkLur

ha. was just there today but didn't take notice , was eyeing other stuff

It's at my local Crappy near Leaside. West Marine down on queens quay had some as well I think. Also had Starbrite but not sure if that's marine or not. City Marine ( queensway nr Kipling) should have something similar as well. I don't think I'll ever finish off my bottle of regular Sta-Bil, it goes such a long way.

If I'm not pan frying catfish (sometimes blackened), it's getting steamed with coarsely minced garlic and fermented black beans (like you'd find at Asian supermarkets).

I've motored a Honda 4 stroke 2 hp and a Merc 4 stroke 3.5 horse on a freighter canoe and both ran fine. The Honda does indeed sound like a bunch of angry bees when run wot but I didn't notice any extra shake and shimmy 'cept maybe the tiller. Same for the Merc although much quieter and better at half throttle. Obviously both would have a heart attack if asked to move 1100lbs of boat and gear

Using bait vs. lures... Help a newbie out :)
woodenboater replied to MichaelAngelo's topic in General Discussion
I use either depending on my whims that day A wooly bugger on a 6 hook has been a favorite for bass on fly gear as has a countdown Rapala on ultralight. Last time on the French, a worm hung on a hook below a float produced smb and a nice pike although I prefer flashy spinnerbaits for the toothy fish. Also got lots of perch and sunfish as well unfortunately. Just got some Gulp grubs to try out so will see if they'll become a regular part of my kit. -
Karma... it is a three way street correct?

That is unbelievable progress and great news! I never would have figured someone would be in a pool three weeks out of major surgery, she's got some strong will in her and imagine she must be quite a force ! wb -
got dry rub ribs on the Weber right now and probably gonna give it about 3 hours or so. Indirect with chunks of hickory for smokey goodness.

Family Trip To A North Of Nakina Walleye Factory
woodenboater replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
I know it may be heresy to suggest this here but man, I might have gotten tired of hauling walleyes into the boat at the rate you guys were hooking them Sounded like a great trip for your kids, especially having the time to spend with their grandfather doing something they all loved. Kinda jealous and actually had to pull out the road guide to see how long a drive it is from the GTA lol -
thanks everyone and mercman, wooden boats are great until it's time to quickly throw the mooring cover on when rain comes quick and hard the feel and sound of wooden boats/canoes definitely can't be matched however.

Hey All, Just a lurker absorbing all the talk here since joining last month so figure it's about time to say hi. Been fishing since a kid, well as much as a city kid can do with two parents who worked long days and whose vocabulary didn't include the word 'vacation'. Fished ultralight or fly if tripping in Algonquin but kinda drifted away for a bunch of years but getting back into it last few years. Been hitting the French lately but the fish stock is safe for now lol. Also appeased the prop gods of the French R with two offerings last year Spend pre fishing season in a drysuit paddling whitewater canoe as soon as ice is out. Still love ultralight and regular spinning but plan to concentrate on fishing for pike with fly gear and trying to convince SWMBO that I need a full console 16' boat. Hope to be able offer what I can to the boards if only for entertainment value woddenboater
