Unless your son is an endocrinologist with no bias, I don't see what that has to do with anything??? and if you were using prescription testosterone (a base steroid) and you suffered negative side effects such as moodiness, it was more than likely it was administered in a poor manner dose wise. if/when you come off a steroid, you need to administer more drugs appropriately to get the body to start producing it's own testosterone again, like HCG or Clomid. Or you will have symptoms relative to zero testosterone production. FYI, there are thousands of steroids all with unique effects and characteristics, "doctors" are not necessarily experts on the issue

Billybob, wiki is a useful tool, but not so much when it comes to science. anyone that has an understanding of the endocrine system and neuro chemistry would understand where I'm coming from. but lets save that for a more appropriate thread

lol, that's nonsense.

@fishgreg, You have to remember though it's a choice of the individual to pursue something they love. Some people will think similarly to you, and choose another profession/hobby, some won't. For some people doing what they love means everything, and health isn't going to stop that pursuit. We go out in boats everyday and risk accidents their as well, no different then other sports on that level. We choose to do it, even with the risk of drowning etc. Same as other professions, firefighting etc. To them the risk is worth it, and they accept the short term/long term consequences of those decisions. Anyhow, very tragic loss. Very talented athlete and by the sounds of it, an even greater person.

Probably why its a great area to fish...

Man thats an awesome tattoo I watched Iron Maiden in Minneapolis years and years ago. I've always been a fan, I grew up listening to them on vinyl, lol. I loved buying most their albums on vinyl when I got older. I always thought it was the coolest art work on their covers. Run to the hills is not only a great song, it's one of my all time fav. videos. If you haven't seen it, look it up. Nobody puts on a concert like Iron Maiden, they do amazing shows!!!

I can totally understand where your coming from. In fact, I've suffered numerous concussions and it's a big part of why you can't translate my post, lol. I have a really hard time putting my thoughts in order when I type. I too have an education, it doesn't hinder me from learning, just in the way I speak or type things out. Concussions def. need to be taken very seriously and studied in far greater detail. The point I'm trying to make is that it could very well be the issue that caused this tragedy, maybe not? Or it can be numerous factors or outside factors. I was just peeved at the show I was watching and how they presented it. It immediately went into talks of studying head trauma and concussions as if the focus wasn't on his death, and I find that disrespectful. Hopefully thats more understandable for you? Very sad to see his mother speak, that always breaks me up

R.I.P. Junior A great player and I was huge fan. That being said, Concussions or not, that doesn't really have a place in our discussion as to what happened. Lately, there is alot of talk over suicide/death due to concussions, but there are so many other related factors.... We will never really know. Anyone with half a brain knows what professional athletes endure. The physicality does play a part, but so does mentality, life, abuse etc... I obviously have no idea what happened, but when things like this occur, the first thing I think of is the "pedestal" professional athletes are put on, and how the other factors play a part, then your career ends.... It has to play a hyyyyuge emotional role, and if you couple that with relationship factors, drug use, past family issues etc, it is my feeling that it's a recipe for disaster. I just think it's time we as society look at everything as a whole to produce a conclusion. I think all these athletes/people deserve that and I believe that is fair treatment and helps a legacy. Very easy to pinpoint one issue as the cause, when really everyone involved knows damn well the things that go on with professional athletes.... If you want to honor someone you cherished, give them the dignity of dying in their own way. Celebrate their life and accomplishments... Don't tarnish them with hearsay and bull. Prost to everyone that has past, athlete or not, and to hell with everyone who dissects your life in an unruly manner

I tried some last year and I found it to taste good but odd texture... I've never eaten any other catfish though, so maybe thats just how their flesh is???? Did you fry it or what was the cooking method? Every once in awhile I'll try some fish from the supermarket for a change up. I usually end up with salmon or trout though. That being said, I tried some tilapia the other day, two different ways, and it was pretty good. One was cooked like trout, the other just like typical walleye. Kids couldn't tell the difference. The price had me wondering though, lol, $5.95 for 6 fillets????? I probably don't wanna see where the fish came from...

I've had a hard time with pike for the past ten days or so. All was going really well when water temps were 40-43, then it went up to 46 (now 49) and I can't get bit. I've been fishing depths from 1FOW to 30FOW, mud, sandbars, backbays, old veg, rock, current, current seams etc. Tried small baits, live bait big baits and everything in between. I'll be very happy when I can figure them out, or the water warms up more, whichever happens first, lol. Good thing the bass are biting in the meantime (I'm in zone 5)

Lucky dood, calling for rain and thunderstorms here for the next 5 days. I'll get out here and there, just won't be for very long. Bass are starting the year off bigger then usual, you noticing the same thing??? Gonna be some real tanks around here come fall

My gosh thats a nice rod!!! I bet money that you had a hard time paying attention to your own rod/line Simon, lol. FYI I couldn't get out today, some pretty good storms rolled through. Hopefully tomorrow...

Welcome aboard Scott!!! Great fish guys, nice chunky bronze!!!! Great report, but I must say I was looking forward to some close ups of the new rod
-
Yep, thats a very nice sucker!!!!

Some of the responses on the last page or so are hilarious It seems we've all grown up and have chosen to battle over what species fights better, for gosh sakes. Sucker fishing is fun at times, especially the 10lbers in the rapids. Only carp I've ever seen washed up on shore with it's belly ripped out (presumably by a bear?), well, that wasn't very fun. I suppose I could catch some if I bought a 17ft rod and some of those tinker bells? Still don't think it be as fun as sucker fishing with my 28" ice rod spooled up with 50lb braid. Seriously, what the heck is going on here????

I was fishing for pike, and never seen a fish all weekend (aside from sturgeon cleaning their gills). Nice pics, I'm very jealous What are those "fiddles" Misfish???
-
Brutal. A little friendly advice can go along way. Good on the guy for being excited, but I'd prefer to see the fish released immediately. It's not the end of the world though. On this site there is pictures of carp and other species laying on mud banks, in the grass etc... So whats with that??? To me I hardly lose sleep over it, some people are really over reacting. Alot of us watch our favorite anglers throw bass outta their boats all the time. I don't agree with it, but I still watch. As long as I treat the fish I catch in a manner I feel good about and is legal, I'm happy with that. That being said, these threads can be entertaining. I can't help but feel for the guy though. I've been there (with bass as well). I posted a pic and the first response I got was "learn em young", suggesting I was teaching my kids to fish OOS. A quick question(what zone are you in?) would have avoided a whole bunch of insults and name calling. We all know the best way to get our point across is to slander a guys character and yell and scream via the keyboard, lol

In my area the CO's have been a pleasure to deal with. I've called the tips line on more then one occasion and they've shown up every time, late, but they did show up. I see the same group of CO's pretty regularly and speak with them when I get a chance. Even they say it's tough because that one boat is patrolling a huge stretch of the river. Your doing what you can and should feel good about that. One day that couple will get what they have coming to them.

lol, so true

Love the pics!!!! Man those look delish!!! Here is a few of my own from recent

We had a feed last night, and I opted for the traditional flour/eggwash/breading/fried method. But for breading I used a mix of cornflake crums, Crispers salt and vinegar flavor crackers, and some croutons all smashed up and mixed. Turned out really nice, good flavors and some crunch. Kids loved it

No problem, glad to help! But like previously mentioned, I never get to target those fish. Might wanna get some of the other to chime in for recommendations??? Depends on your set up etc I suppose, but I'd think it would depend where your fishing and the depth. The heavier the braid, the more it floats. But the lighter the braid the better the fight will be. I'd think 6-8lb braid would be good, and match the diameter up with the fluoro With the smaller braid you can get great casts, and you could also use a hi vis to help as well. Again, the fluoro leader would depend on what depth you wish to present your offerings
-
I've never fished these species, But if your float fishing with a baitcaster I'd use braid with a fluoro leader the length of the depth your want to achieve. Braid floats, fluoro sinks like a rock. Check out the MNR website or pick up a copy of the regs for the rest of your questions http://viewer.zmags....8a2#/29e578a2/1 The actual books are available at baitshops, your local MNR offices, local convenience stores (in some cases) Best of luck to you!!!
