  1. My favourite way to fish pads is with a frog. If the pads are thick, I use a floating frog, it they are a bit more sparse I use a rage toad or something like that that makes some noise going through the water. Either way, you can't beat that feeling when one explodes on your frog.
  2. Hi, I am looking to make my own spinner baits over the winter for personal use, not for selling, but have not bought any of the materials yet. Does anyone know of a good place to buy all the necessities to get myself going? I've found a few decent places online, but thought if there was something local it would be better to buy so I can ask questions. If anyone has any advice too that would be appreciated. Thanks
  3. Shimano Cardiff is a nice reel too... http://www.basspro.com/Shimano®-Cardiff®-Round-Baitcast-Reels/product/58389/-1102351
  4. It's really easy too... I think I spent about $40 on our trophy... got a bass figure at bass pro, took it to a trophy store and they mounted it on a small base for me that would fit about 10-12 years worth of winner plates. Cost about $10 for that and they even engraved a name for our challenge on it. If it lasts longer than that, i can just add another bigger base to it and keep the tradition going.
  5. I go on a trip every year for a week and we have a trophy too and points for each fish. The points work over a week long trip, but for a day I think a trophy with the biggest fish weight and name of the angler that caught it is a good idea. My uncle won it last year and whenever I had to go to his house I cringed because I knew that trophy was on the mantle staring me in the face.
  6. Thanks for the info. Nice fish BTW, I hope to catch a few of those this weekend.
  7. Sorry, to be more specific, how has the smallmouth and largemouth fishing been? Thanks
  8. Anyone have any idea how the fishing has been on St. Clair the past little while? More specifically out of Mitchell's bay? I can see that the water has continued to be a bit muddy this year, and was wondering if that is affecting things. Thanks in advance.
  9. I test them in my pool too, and whenever I'm worried about the lure having a weird taste, I spray it with some scent like Gulp Alive or something similar.
  10. I am glad this topic was started because I am in a similar position where I am just starting to learn how to use my livewell properly... I know I don't have a re-circ option, but I do have a switch that will bring in water and the switch has a manual and auto position which when I turn them on didn't seem to have much of a difference. As someone else already said on this thread, does that mean when it the "auto" position, there is some sort of timer on it where it will only pump for so long and then turn off? Vs. Manual position where I'd have to turn it off once I was satisfied? Any idea how long the timer is in the "auto" position if that is the case?
  11. I've seen the Fish TV guys have filmed a show or 2 up there at that specific resort. I've seen the episodes on TV as well. It might be worth checking out their website because I know you can watch video clips from the TV shows, if not entire episodes. If you can find the right one, they do give a few tips/tricks on the area. The show I saw of them at Bears Den lodge was them fishing for largemout bass, and they seemed big (at least the one's they showed on tv anyways)
  12. I don't know much about the HB fish finders, but I know on my Lowrance HDS unit that there is a shallow water setting and a deep water setting.
  13. Thanks Guys.... I have managed to get my hands on a portable fish finder, and I know we'll be real careful on the water. Not bringing my own boat for that reason, I'd like it to still be in 1 piece for the rest of the summer!
  14. Thanks GB fisher... Is there anyway to preview it before buying to make sure it has what I'm looking for and make sure it is the right area?
  15. Hey everyone, I'll be heading to a fishing camp in the lower French river in a few weeks, and I will be renting a boat. Without any prior knowledge of the area, and not wanting to spend money on a portable fish finder for 4 days of fishing, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could buy a map of the river that might show me depths and contours? I've tried looking online and I can't find anything. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  16. If you were nervous, you couldn't tell... Good job.
  17. What tourney is going on there that day?
  18. I bought 4 off kijiji this past winter all for $100-$130, crucials that is.
  19. X2 for compre.... I have mojo's also and like them, but the Shimano warranty can't really be beat. I had a mojo break on me last year and they have just a 5 year warranty, shimano compre has lifetime. It cost me almost $40 to ship the mojo to the USA to get it replaced. I've since switched to using Shimano Crucials (1 above the compre) and love them. I think you'll get alot of opinions on here.
  20. I will most likely be down fishing St. Clair out of Mitchell's bay.
  21. My 2 go to rods are a crucial crankbait rod (TC4) 7'2" MH paired with a curado reel, and a 7'2" medium/extra fast crucial dropshot rod with a 2500 symetre on it. The crankbait rod in my opinion is good for throwing cranks obviously, but it can also handle spinner baits and other similar baits. The Crucial drop shot can not only be used for that, but you can throw senkos, shaky heads, etc. when the bite gets slow.
  22. I saw this one today when I was browsing.... Do you pick your own partner or do you get paired up with someone?
  23. I believe fishing world in hamilton is selling them for $159
  24. Hi, Anyone know of any club/tournament trails in Southwestern Ontario similar to that of the one's in the GTA area? Looking to get into some tournament fishing and was curious to know if such clubs existed in Southwestern Ontario. Thanks in advance.
  25. I use curado's which I love, but I recently picked up a caenan for a friend of mine and I've been playing around with it until I can deliver it to him and I almost don't want to give it to him. I don't think you can go wrong with a caenan or anything more than that. Check Ebay too if you are into that, got my curado's for $140 each, I think they sell for around $200 at bass pro.
