  1. i'm no expert but i'll tell ya what i did. i got rid of my old wood stove, replaced it with a freestanding gas fireplace on a thermostat. i also took out all of the old style baseboard heaters and replaced them with newer more energy efficient ones and saved about 700 the first winter in electricity. convection heaters are ok for a batroom or entrance but from what i got from researching it on the web, they dont work well in larger rooms or open spaces, and the fans that most of them have tend to gater dust and become noisy.
  2. sheesh, we have the same guides, and i never seen a smallie that big.back to the drawing board
  3. i used to fish this lake years ago, and i was pulling 5 lb bass out of there like fleas on a hound. my ex father in law showed me this place and he told me how many bass they caught and i dint believe him. he used to pull them in with weiners on a hook and spinner. weird eh ? this small lake is used as the reservoir for alexandria ont. , and someone told me that one year a while back, that they let too much water out and the lake froze to the bottom, killing everything in it. does anyone know if this is true, and if so, has it rebounded back from the dead.
  4. i hear ya drifter. i cant go to sail without dropping a 100bucks or so.where does it end ive been fishing again for a month and i may have to purge the tb already.....

  8. 1ST OF ALL, LET ME EXPLAIN. I LOVE FISHIN, BUT HAVE NOT DONE IT FOR MANY YEARS, FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER. IN 2008 MY BROTHER BOUGHT A RANGER BASS BOAT. LAST YEAR HE WENT TO THE FISHING AND HUNTING SHOW IN OTTAWA, AND WON THE DOOR PRIZE. A PRINCECRAFT 14FT FISHERMAN AND A MERCURY 8HP 4 STROKE MOTOR. CALLED ME UP AND ASKED IF I WANTED IT. WELL DUHHH !!!!!!!!!! SO I SAID YES, IN A HEARTBEAT, HUNG UP THE PHONE, AND THEN REALIZED....DAMN, HOW IN HELL AM I GONNA TELL THE WIFE. DON'T EVEN KNOW IF SHE LIKES FISHING, AND WHAT IF SHE DOESN'T, THEN HOW WILL SHE REACT IF I GO TOO OFTEN, AND HOW MANY FRIENDS DO I HAVE WHO CAN GO WITH ME AND SO ON AND SO ON... WELL, PICKED UP THE BOAT ON JULY 1, SHE WAS A LITTLE LEARY ON THE WHOLE THING. TOOK HER OUT, GOT BOTH OF US SET UP NICELY WITH GEAR, TOOK THE BOATER SAFETY COURSE, PASSED WITH 97%. WENT FISHING LAST WEEK WITH HER. SHE CAUGHT A 8 IN PERCH, AND NOW SHE'S HOOKED ON THE WHOLE CONCEPT !!! I HAVE MY OWN FISHIN BUDDY !!!!!! AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF, ITS MY 55TH BIRTHDAY NEXT WEEK ON WEDNESDAY AND SHE BOUGHT ME A MINNKOTA ENDURA, WITH A CHARGER AND MARINE BATTERY. MAN AM I A LUCKY DUDE !!!!! ONLY SET BACK NOW, IS GONNA BE GETTING HER TO LEAVE STUFF AT HOME. I SWEAR, WHEN SHE GOES ON THE WATER, WE HAVE EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK WITH US. DRINKS, IPOD AND A LITTLE SPEKER STE SHE BOUGHT LAST WEEK, KLEENEX, BANDAIDS, DRINK HOLDERS THAT CLIP ON THE SIDE RAILS OF THE BOAT, UMBRELLA, JACKETS, COOLER, CHEWING GUN, SANDWICHES, FOLDING CUPS......GONNA HAVE TO GET A BIGGER BOAT SOON. BUT UNTIL THEN, I GET TO FISH ANYTIME I WANT. YIPPEE !!!!!!!!!!!!! TIGHT LINES TO ALL OF YOU PAUL
  9. just west of ottawa, in kanata, you can put your boat in at shirleys bay. it'll put you right accross from aylemer p.q. good bass and pickrel fishing there. there are some campgrounds west of there near arnprior or fitzroy harbor.
  10. I OWN A RETAIL/WHOLESALE APPLIANCE PARTS BUSSINESS. HATE GOLFING, LOVE FISHING.
  11. THANKS GUYS. THATS WHAT I THOUGHT. I CHANGED THE POSITION LAST NITE AS I HAD DONE THE NEWBIE THING OF PLACING IT TOO CLOSE TO THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE BOTTOM. I HATE DRILLING HOLES IN MY BOAT. THANKS GOD FOR GOOD MARINE EPOXI, AND THE SMALL DIAMETER OF THE HOLES. WILL TAKE HER OUT ON FRIDAY AND LET YOU KNOW.
  12. hey everyone AS MENTIONED I HAVE A LOWRANCE X135 AND THE DEPTH DISPLAY FLASHES FROM TIME TO TIME. IT DOESNT SPEAK OF THAT IN THE MANUAL AND WAS WONDERING WHAT IT MEANS.
  13. well if canned or bottled food freezes the containers would probably explode. liquids and solids tend to expand when they freeze and if they dont exploded they could cause the conatiner to open slightly and spoil the contents
  14. i know for a fact that aluminum can be welded, and if the welder is good, you may not even be able to tell it was broken.check out the metal shops or refrigeration repair services in your area.the will be used to welding aluminum evaporator coils and will have the tools to do a good braze.
  15. i caught a loon up in loch garry about 15 years ago. scared the crap out of me when it flew up and out of the water near my boat. i had to reel it in and net it so i could get the rapala out of its beak.
  16. i have a 2009 14ft princecraft fisherman and i want to install folding seats. does anyone know what is under the plastic bench surfaces. is it solid enough to attach the swivel bases for the seats. i'd like to know before i start drillin.
  17. i've been told that baron ottawa sucks and you just confirmed it. fortunately the one close to me here in montreal is fantastic. also if you can, go see Ed at paddle tales in wincester ont, just east of ottawa. he speaks bass. check it out at www.paddletales.com
  18. i hear ya. the bait caster even 'feels' better then the spin caster, although the callista is wrong handed for me, it feels comfortable reeling with my right hand. kinda feels like soneone else
  19. well, i took all of your wise advise and read up on baitcasting 101.set the mag to max, tightened up the spool tensioner and voila !! im casting like a pro.(not). i practised in the backyard early this morning, and the neighbours were peeking out the window at me, shaking thier heads like i was nuts, and looking for what i was fishing for. my lab and my pom were enthusiastically chaseing the weight accross the grass. i suddenly realized that i had no more birds nests on my spool !!! now i have to figure out how to get some distance, and how to get the bait to land where i want it too. at least there wont be any maple trees in the middle of the st lawerence river. thanks to you all.
  20. i will roy. thats a promise. soon as i get my year end over with we is gonna get together. thanks bud.....tight lines
  21. im gonna print this garry, and bring it with me the next time i go out. it seems simple the way you describe it.thanks and ill let ya all know how it goes. tight lines
  22. i need your advice doctors. i am a die hard old school openfaced spin caster user, and i just got an 'ENTRY LEVEL' bait caster. a shimano callista. its a nice little reel, but how can i avoid the rackin frackin birds nests. the guy at sail baron set me up with tilene xl 12 lb mono, but its as if its too stiff and comes un done way too easily. any sugestions ~~~~ should i change line or just go back to my flueger o/f.
  23. well i live in brossard and am using the public ramp for now. although ive fished many years ago, i just got my boat a few weeks ago. staring small, and working my way up. i love large mouth fishing, but anything will do for now. will be going up near arnprior ont with my bro in a few weeks. he's a hard core fisher with a ranger bass boat. can't wait to post a few pics and get the newbie tag off my name lol !!!!!!!!
