You want to wish for COLD weather as the ice has taken a severe beating in the last week. More people will be fishing from their boats this weekend - no one on the ice.

Was out to fish with Laker John, picked up a pile of Minnows from DewDrop Inn and then picked up my stuff and off to the ramp. At the ramp, there's a chap who had to go to WORK (Ugh) and he told us that he and his buds picked up four walleyes in fifteen minutes and some huge perch too. We headed out and went to our 'spot' and dug our holes, started fishing at 0925. Shortly thereafter, I had a hit and landed a 12" perch, then fifteen mins later another 'jumbo'. Rather than itemize the entire fishing day, here's the summary. 3 walleyes, 12"-13"(released) and 16"(kept for the table) 6 Perch, two jumbos and four around 8" - all table fare. At the beginning there were approx 17 fishers on the ice, and the as the afternoon got later, the fishers came flooding down the launch ramp and when we left at 1700, there were approx 65 fishers all strewn over the ice. We got our fish on Little Cleos, Green and Florescent tipped with at least two muds. There was approx 8 inches of ice, where we were. We talked to some people who advised us that ice further east up Hay Bay only had perhaps 4 inches in some parts. With the weather - Remember Play Safe......

New Years Day = fishing liscence renewals
superdad replied to Dondorfish's topic in General Discussion
Well, my license expires on Monday and I'm NEVER gonna buy another!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh Yes, I rec'd my Federal Govt Blue Card this year and I don't need another license to fish again. Guess that means I'm getting older - Darn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy New Year and Screaming Reels to all OFNers -
Laker John and I went out to fish on Sunday with the promise of flurries and minus 7. The Reach is clear and we .launched at the UEL Park, (it's very shallow - not for large boats) and headed out and set the rods before the green marker at Keith Shoal. We marked the time at 1145 and at 1150, the rod with the lead core began to sing. Superdad was hooked up with a fish. The fish was just a drag to the boat and as I removed the hook from the lower jaw, I could see WHY!!!! The air bladder had come into the mouth - this fish wasn't going back. It's the first time that has happened to us while trolling. We realized immediately that the depth of the lead core and the diving depth of the Purple Demon had stretched the limits of the walleye depths. Here's the picture: They say the first fish is the hardest, well we had one in five minutes - Boy were we going set the world on fire!!!!!!!! Trolled around for the next two hours without a touch. As we trolled up the north shore we noticed one of the lead cores acting strangely. Reeled it in and found that one of the outside lures had come across and hooked the two lead core lines - what a mess. As we coming to shore to untangle the mess, the planer board took a dive and Laker John landed a nice four pounder on a 3/4 oz Power Dive Firetiger. Looked like a one armed paper hander with rods and line all over the place - we got the fish. It took us 45 minutes on shore to clear the tangle. I've seen some birdnests; in reels befor never have I had a tangle like this. When we got ready to head out, the squall had just blown in and we headed out towards the deeper water. Began trolling downwind and the inside rod began to scream - Fish on and I was able to land a nice 8lber on the Power Dive. Released the fish and headed back to troll downwind again as the squall was really blowing. We started back downwind and the inside rod went back - Fish On for about two seconds - DARN. As I was reeling the lure in, the outer baord went off and Laker John was into another fish, Holy COW - double header and the other board went off too. Unfortunately, the second fish was on a asecond and GONE. Laker John landed another 4 lber on the Purple Demon. We had a furry of activity for 25 minutes and then we had head for shore. All in all quite a day, we went 4 for 7. The weather is looking good for the rest of the week and hopefully we can get out again. Stay Tuned.

Nov 24 Bay of Quinte report, another new PB
superdad replied to Badger Shark's topic in General Discussion
PB's are ALWAYS good things. Good for you and good report. There are a lot of fish ALL over the place according to the various reports, east of the ferry, cement plant, Picotn Bay, Thompsons-Shermans ALL over. Lots of fishing left........... -
Went out to fish on the 26th with Laker John and BayBoy and while launching, we met a fellow angler who was out and was very successful at catching walleyes, landing them up to 13.75 lbs and not travelling a great distance. We thought, we should give it a try and have a look around. We started trolling and it became rapidly evident that we were on top of a lot of fish. The successful fisher had clued us in on the lure size andwe downsized considerably and within twenty minutes we had landed a nice pike, well at least they could see the lures. Continuing on our first pass, the reel screamed and Bayboy landed a nice 23 incher on a Silver / Black CC Shad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The weather cooperated and we had flat conditions and we fished from 1245 to 1700 and the total for the day was a pair of pike, three walleyes in the well and one HUGE eye lost at the net - figured well over 10lbs - DARN.........The fish were caught on CC Shads and Minnow Raps. Tuesday morning after ALL the rain we had overnight brought a change of pressure and the winds came along also. This made trolling much more difficult but we persisted and continued trolling. This is what were seeing: and a little further we saw this: We continued to fish with the wind and the rod popped again, BayBoy's turn at the rod. A nice 8.5 lb Northern caught on a Minnow Rap. The wind continued to increase and trolling became very diificult, so we headed back to shore to bring the boat ashore. We took some pix on shore; Where were we fishing????????? We were fishing the Inner Hay Bay region. The area is not large enought to handle an influx of twenty or thirty boats, all with planer boards, so We'll leave it to you to figure out where we were and if it's worth your while to travel there. After we landed we met the fellow angler who was fishing yesterday and he and his partner had landed four, 11.7, 9.8, 6.0 & 3.5 all on a very small Berkley lure................... We'll be back with Laker John's Boat to try again. Stay Tuned.

Preparing for the Kingscourt Derby on Nov 17th, Laker John and I launched the boat on Friday morning adn immediately headed out to Long Reach. The NW / W wind was blowing and we trolled in the lee of the West Shore from Grandfathers Cove to the Fairway Marker and then towards the cement plant with the wind pushing us sideways. Continued in front of the cement plant and down the county shore heading to Q4 Buoy. As we neared Q4, Laker's reel made a very short series of clicks, must the be the boat turning!!!!! As we began to reel in to head back to Thompsons, Laker says "Sure feels funny!" Well, there was a nice 23 incher hanging on the Power Dive Minnow..... At least we're not skunked........ Headed back to the Thompsons area and trolled around where the yellow marker USED to be... Marked many fish but were unable to attract anything else. Back to the Camp at 1630. Saturday started a bit slow as I overslept the alarm and we only hit the water, after getting rid of the frost on the windshield(Thank you Black Cat Heater!!!!!!!) and we headed for Q4 to make a pass at 0645. Didn't connect or mark anything, so we headed past the ferry to up the number of rods in the water. Trolled from the County side Gazebo to the lighthouse and we hardly marked anything. This trip took about 2.5 hours and we decided to head back to where we had marked fish on Friday. Started trolling between Thompsons and Shermans in 35' of water and I was just putting out my board, when Lakers' rod goes crazy.. Fish ON!!!! Those magic words................. My turn on the rod and we were able to land a 4.3 lber off the Ppower Dive Minnow. Not skunked again and we've a fish in the box for the derby. Set the rods and boards again and within 20 minutes, the rod goes backward and Laker landed a nice 3 lber off the same Power Minnow. Our confidence is bursting as we think we've got the pattern. Trolled for another 2.5 hours with nary a sniff. Lots of boats all searching the Thompsons/Sherrmans and everything in between. Talked to Mario on the radio at 1245 - they had a double header and landed only one. Back to the Shermans Launch for the weighin at 1315. We had some fun getting to shore as it is REALLY low............. We weighed in 7.3 lbs and that was good enough for 4th place. 25t Boats in the derby, 7 weighed in fish and only three boats had a pair of fish. The winner was a handsome 13.2 lber. We docked the boat at Bayview and drove back for the lunch and the prizes. A lot of effort was done by the organizers for the chili/bean and hot dogs and the stunning array of prizes. The winners got the matching pair of Line counter reels and rods- Really nice prizes. Everyone had a good time, although there were some in attendance who had fished for NINE days with a strike.......................Holy Cow F**M**!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess you'll be dissecting and analyzing the whole trip over the winter...... Laker and I want to extend our thanks to the organizers and promise that we'll be back next year. Thanks to BayBoy for the pictures

Was out to fish with The Total Package on Fri and Sat. We fished Fri Afternoon in the deep trench at Thompsons where we marked a ton of fish, but only had one strike on a Power Dive Minnow and at 75', the fish shook loose and was gone. 0 fo 1. Fished until 1630 with no further success, there were lots of fish. Water temp was 48.7 degs. Sat AM, we headed east of the ferry, where the wind was blowing almost due East and with 3 footers, tough fishing up wind. We began near the Keith Shoal and trolled east dodging the MANY boats out on the water. Marking the occasional pod of fish, we marked one as we were opposite the point, east of the ferry, on the county side, with the large lawn and gazebo, passing by the pod, the outer rod went off and we were able to land a nice 5.77 lb approx 24" on a Blue/Silver/Orange 3/4 oz Power Dive Minnow. We trolled single lines from the ferry to Q4 for a while and then headed to the Light house to see what we could see. Trolled from the light house to past Keith Shoal with no results. Water temp at Keith Shoal was 51.7 degs. Motored back to Thompsons and in the trench, we marked a FEW fish, tried over the on the West Shore with the odd fish appearing, trolling downwind we pasted the tranch again and were astounded not to see all the fish we had seen on Fri. Guess they're movin on....... Too bad we didn't do better, but the sun came out and the fishing was pleasant - not that cold Nov fishing we're dressed for. Off the water at 1600, with Holy Toledo just ahead of us. They didn't catch anything on Sat., Fri they landed a 7 lber east of the ferry. As I mentioned, LOTS of boats out on Sat and everyone was coping with the winds and the waves. Back out next weekend for the Kingscourt Derby - C U on the water - CH 72 on the radio. Stay Tuned

PB"s are always good, the fish certainly aren't jumping in the boat. The fishing appears spotty. Stay Tuned.

Surfing the Waves in The Bay of Quinte Saturday
superdad replied to Mike the Pike's topic in General Discussion
Mike, Good report, too bad about the weather and the wind, but that's the BOQ!!!!!! That Yo Zuri must be a giant - they work well and catch fish too. Cheers David aka Superdad -
Easiest to get to would be the launch at the East side of the Glenora Ferry, exit for Napanee south, turn left past Timmes and keep going to the Lake and turn right to the ferry. That way you won't have to drive thru Picton, or Prince Edward county. Lotsa Luck

Thursday was such a nice day and when I called Laker John to talk about the different posts to the board, he said -'Let's go!" OK said I and we loaded the Explorer and headed out to pick up his boat. We launched at Shermans and talked to some anglers who were trying Quinte for the first time, they were looking for ideas and hopefully we gave them good info. We started fishing in Long Reach at 1345 and we marked a LOT of fish. The wind was from the North-east and wasn't too much trouble trolling against it. There were a number of boats fishing around the yellow marker between Thompsons and Shermans. We trolled back and forth from Grandfathers Cove to the Big Willow tree. We were changing lures with each trolling pass and finally the reel screamed and I was able to land a real nice 26 inch fish. The fish hit a 3/4 oz. Power Dive Minnow - one of my favourites. As we were marking all kinds of fish, the decision was made to stay put and work these fish. Several passes later the planer board acted rea funny and the reel clicked several clicks - not the reel screamer!!!!!! Laker John's turn at the reel and he landed a nice fish that will grace his table. We're not skunked again we said- we have been most fortunate to get fish almost every time we're out together. We were getting these fish trolling down-wind and wondered if we would ever get one going into the wind, around 1615 the planer board went sideways and the reel clicked away. My turn to fight the fish and we netted another fine fish for the table. We had another strike on a turn into the wind but the hooks failed to set and we reeled in just the lure. We called it a day at 1800 and headed back to the ramp. Total for the day was three for four - a good batting average in anyones league. We had another nice day - temp around 11 degs. The water temp in Long Reach was 54.7 degs - those cool clear nights are driving the temp down - good to see. Hard to say when the next visit will be - Stay Tuned.

Nice fish and good report. We've got the best Trophy Walleye Fishing in NA.

Laker John and I picked the best day(weather-wise) to head out and troll the Adolpus Reach and search for the pods of those eyes. We trolled from Three Amigos Shoal eastward and criss-crossed looking for fish. We couldn't locate any large schools of bait-fish but we hit a nice 6lb fish over by the lighthouse on the north shore on a TDD-11, Purple essence (SP) just before Noon. We continued trolling and just past Prnyers Pt, the flat-line rod bent and I was able to land a nice 5lber. We were flat-lining a Yo Zuri R540 (purple) back about 240' We were watching the three boats all trolling near the Upper Gap on the Reach side and we had a most unusual strike. We were in the midst of a turn and inside board stopped and was almost flat in the water, when it started to move away from the boat and then the reel screamed and we had another hit. Again the TDD 11- Purpleessence Laker John fought this and was very careful bringing in this one. The fish was pulling very hard and we thought it might be another of the pesty sheepshead, but as hte fish appeared at the surface we could see it was Mrs Walleye, into the net, a quick pix and a quick visit to the scale and back in the water. Our first double digit of the fall season - 10 lbs even. We headed back to Thompsons Pt around 1600 and made a couple passes around the Yellow Marker - marked lots of this in that area. Back to the ramp at 1715, total for the day was six fish landed, 3 walleyes and 3 sheepshead and one lost strike. Wecould not have picked a better day with the winds and the sun - it was a Beautiful day and most productive. Stay Tuned

Got out to fish with Laker John, launched at Shermans and headed east of the ferry. On the way we passed a number of boats in Long Reach fishing from the cement plant to Thompsons Pt. - at least three charters. We trolled downwind from the Three Amigos Shoal almost to Prynter Cove, we picked up a nice 22 incher opposite the lighthouse on the north shore, on a Yo Zuri Crystal Minnow (R539- Lime green top / white belly) Motored back against the wind and started again at Keith Shoaland we stayed a little deeper until about 1300 when the wind and rain really blew up. Motored back to Thompsons and fished in the lee of the west shore. The charters were still there and we were able to cut over to Thompsons thru the deep hole and down towards the yellow marker. We saw many more fish on the graph in this area - we hardly marked anything east of the ferry and not many baitfish. As we came around the yellow can, the rod sang a little song of resistance and Laker John landed a handsome 24" fish on the same Yo Zuri. We trolled the area until 1700, marking lots of fish. All in all the day wasn't too bad - yes it was windy but going down wind made life easier, especially with four rods and boards. From what we saw the big mama's haven't made an appearance in the deep waters east of the ferry (IMHO). They'll show up - water was over 65 degs down there. Stay Tuned

Gagnon's in Oshawa used to have them - haven't been there in a while. Give em a call

Jerry, You can cast off the ferry dock at the mouth of Millhaven Creek. I don't think there is a run at the mouth of the little creek off the Kosa plnat (there used to be a good flow and good runs of fish) People often are seen at Kingston Mills, near the power outlet, looking for stray salmon. The water in the Napanee River is LOW and I wonder if they'll make it up to the falls. Hope that helps David aka Superdad Kingston / Hay Bay

The winds were Sure blowing after lunch and they were blowing right down Hay Bay, we managed a couple of eyes, one in Long Reach and one at the Old Church Weedbed. Both at 19.5" Sunday was a WHOLE LOT better, weather and wind wise, cept, the fish weren't biting on our rods. Heard of some fish caught flatlining cranks.
