when I did creel census with the mnr on many lakes up north there was one guy that caught lake trout every time he was out all summer long . all he used was a small minnow and a small spit shot and still fished it just off the bottom . he caught fish every day and was only out till about 9am. he used this pattern on drag lake. and he at that time held the biggest fish for that lake as well.

round up will kill all vegetation . if you can buy weed killer and spray at the point of runoff (the leaves) it will kill poision ivy. i dont know about the enviriomntal stuff.. what you need is a combination of 2-4d ,dicamba, and mecoprop this is the true weed killer .. it is avalble if you know the right person and you dont want to kill every thing

NF - yard and grass questions...
chessy replied to The Urban Fisherman's topic in General Discussion
Firstof all you don't appear to have shrubs near by so that more than likely rulesout whit grubs. You have a little moon scapeing, which might be some chinchbugs. But you don't have to worry about them till the heat of the summer. Firstget together with a few of your neighbors and rent a core aerator and make sureit is a core aerator. When you do your lawn you will have plugs that come upabout 3-4 inches long leave them on the lawn, yes they look like tiny dog poobut they thatch layer in those plugs will help fertilize your lawn. Next youhave two choices put down grass seed so it makes contact with the open holes inthe ground if you choose to do that you cannot put down fertilizer, as it willburn the new shoots when the seed germinate. Next step (put your wheels back onyour lawn mower) make sure your mower is 2.5 inches min from the ground to yourblade of your lawnmower don't go by what the wheels say physically measure yourheight. And don't change it yes it will look long till they grass becomes thesame height but this will make your lawn grow thicker. Forever inch of grassyou have you have the same amount of grass root, which sends, new shoots ofgrass to the surface, will keep your lawn from drying out in the summer months.Next step is to keep your lawn watered about a inch of water a week, now thisis where it gets tricky and people will freak never ever water your lawn atnight, your lawn must be dry as possible going into the night time mold willform. Water your lawn early am or in the middle of the day if you have to ITWILL NOT BURN the most damage is done in the heat of the day if you can keepyour lawn damp during the day your lawn will cool and the roots will survive. Waterand height of grass you will see a difference in no time. A good 19 1919 fertilizer that is slow release will help three times a year. And if you andyour neighbors get together 2 times fall and spring aeration is the best thingyou can do... as far as the grass in the drive way good old gylosphos will killit (gylosophos) is the active ingredient in round up. Round up is just a tradename there is cheaper and better out there but it will kill all grasses soshould only be used to kill everything it touches. Hope this helps as Idid lawn care for 7 years and hold land class 1 and 3 tickets for chemical applications. -
Wow i like you ..

once again a mnr officer that interprets the law differently . I have a handi cap permit in my car i have gone to the mnr office in peterbourgh to find out and the district supervisor told me i was good to go fishing . I feel guilty for using one so i purchased a pair of 50 dollar boots for the guys at the fishladder this way i know my money goes directly to fishing

mmmm the counter would show them going down stream not upstream and back then we had smaller channels and a trash rack. leaves do not conduct enough electricity to set off the counter . also we have the same counter . just bigger channels -
Thanks Ron hope to see you there

once again from what i was told a few years ago when we were trying to stop the float your fanny down the ganny race... ( walking in a redd does not hurt the eggs ) what hurts the eggs is walking upstream and depositing silt in the redd which smothers the eggs and promotes (saprilignia)sp this came from a bioligist in the durham region -

yes he is partialy correct and i am wrong. the reason they told us the river was never stalked was due to study that proved they did not survied . they do not stock rainbows in now what is called fmz17 due to the wild rainbow, i do not know how far that goes back i just asked about the rainbows in the ganaraska i know they stocked the crap out of the browns in the river but never 100 000 rainbows... i would like to pic craigs brain on the 5-2 fish limit on rainbows if it will make a difference or not. and yes spiel is was good time talking to jim bowlby and the lomu again . the only time i see them is during the run at the fishladder ( in my 32th volenteering there ) -

@ craig . fish were stocked in the ganaraska river in the 70 71 but studies have proved that the strain of fish they were using did not survive (old fish that needed to be hand milked) the ganaraska is 97 % wild and no stocking has been done since 71 -

@craig . i will find out . from my understanding the ganaraska river is 97% wild. and what we were told the ganny has NEVER been stocked. and i am aware that the rainbows are not native to ontario i will find out 100% tomorrow. as i will be talking directly to the lomu about the fishway operation for the year -

Counts of wild rainbow trout at the Ganaraska River fishway have been stable since 1998, with a slight increase in 2010. This increase is consistent with higher catches of rainbow trout in recent New York and Ontario angler surveys, and may be related to size restrictions on angler harvest of rainbow trout in New York waters of Lake Ontario and to increased predation of salmon and trout on round gobies in recent years. Condition of rainbow trout in the Ganaraska River in 2010 increased from the previous 3 years and is close to the long term average (see Section 2.1). Lamprey marks on rainbow trout continue to be a concern as they remain comparable with levels observed in the 1970s before lamprey control (see Section 2.1). this is from the fishers unit that monitor the fishway at the ganaraska river . simple stop the slaughter out in lake ontario and you will catch more fish

looks like we are going to have to do this by ourselves as the OFAH says they are not willing to suport this proposed regulation change http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=52177
