  1. I wouldn't be too quick to give credit to the guides/sportsmen for getting rid of the commercial fishing. The credit or discredit goes to Dow chemical for the decades of mercury contamination that was discovered in the 60's. In the early 70's fishing was banned on both sides of the border because of the high levels of mercury. Michigan and Ontario initiated law suits. Dow reached an out of court settlement with Ontario and the commercial licences were bought out.
  2. I signed the petitiion, thanks for posting this!
  3. If you want the best of both worlds, you can get a Michigan fishing lisence and fish the Detroit River for fantastic walleye fishing in April. Just make sure you know the custom rules.
  4. I've been a Habs fan all my life and it's great to see they're doing good. I have a lot of friends who are Maple Leaf fans so I'm happy for them as well.
  5. Good for you! Nice fish.
  6. I like Mark Krupa as well- great show. I don't mind Charlie Wray because if I'm on new water I like to troll until I get familiar with the lake. My very best favourite show is Dave Mercer's because he shows the good and the bad. I also agree that Pete Bowman is a good old boy. He's the kind of guy that you would love to have a beer or beers with.
  7. Two thumbs up!!!!
  8. Great clips! Good job.
  9. A balding white haired man walked into a jewelry store this past Friday evening with a beautiful much younger gal at his side. He told the jeweller he was looking for a special ring for his girlfriend. The jeweller looked through his stock and brought out a $5000 ring. The man said "No no, I'd like to see something more special." At that statement, the jeweller went over to his special stock and brought another ring over. "Here's a stunning ring at only $40,000" the jeweller said. The lady's eyes sparkled and her body trembled with excitement. The old man said "We'll take it." The jeweller asked how payment would be made and the man stated, "By check. I know you need to make sure that the check is good, so I'll write it now and you can call the bank on Monday to verify the funds, and I'll pick up the ring on Monday afternoon." On Monday morning the jeweller angrily phoned the old man and said, "there's no money in that account". "I know", said the old man, "but let me tell you about MY GREAT WEEKEND!"
  10. I'm going to the Sportsmen Show for the first time in 7 or 8 years. I stopped going because a lot of the fishing related displays were out numbered by the non fishing vendors. I also like to go to the London Boat and fishing show. Unfortunately a lot of these shows have been taken over by too many non fishing or non-hunting related vendours. I got a $3.00 discount by buying on line. With my senior discount it was only $13.00, so it's a cheap way to spend the day.
  11. Congratulations! I haven't hunted in years and I miss it. Good for you!
  12. you think it's cold in the north- check this out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6t-EjrtD3U
  13. This is hilarious.
  14. This is absolutely insane. http://biertijd.com/mediaplayer/?itemid=38970
  15. I'm not a Paul Martin fan, but he makes a lot of sense!
  16. If I read this correctly, if you don't present your points in a professional way, they don't have any merit. This must mean that you're more likely to be convinced by the best public relations and flashy campaigns. By this logic, if you use the right catch phrases and buzz words you can justify anything. When the time comes when the message can only be delivered in a "rational" and "calm" manner, how do the emotional ordinary people who are affected by these issues gain credibilty? t's hard to stay calm when you feel taken advantage of and someone adds their spin to the message you're trying to present..
  17. I participated in the protest in Windsor and I'm not a member of the First Nations, but I do support their calls for being at the table to discuss the effect of Bill C-45. They should have been part of the consultation process as we all should have. I have attended many consultations at Municipal, Provincial and Federal over the years. However for the last decade there have been many changes at all levels of governments which are nothing more that a photo opportunity where they only go through the motions after decisions have been made. A lot of Canadians have given up voting at election time and a majority only get out at election time to support their favourite party but do little in between other than to complain. There is a lot of damage being done by our complacency, whether or not you agree with me or not I still have the right to protest against what I think is wrong. And as for those who claim to know what their fathers, uncles, brothers, mothers or sisters fought for, I don't believe they fought for a government that continues to take away our democratic rights because of ideology. Take a look at the link and compare this to the occassional tire burnings that some have complained about and ask yourself, who's fooling who? http://www.businessinsider.com/photos-destructive-canada-oil-sands-2012-10?op=1
  18. It's interesting that just days ago, some members of this forum called a police officer stupid for walking on thin ice to warn them of the hazard because they ignored his pleas from shore. Fortunately nothing happened. Imagine if that "stupid" officer had fallen through the ice and drowned. He did this because he cared and caring is part of his job. This shows disrespect for police officers, firefighters and rescue personel who go above and beyond their duty to make sure these same "adults" return home to their families. I can only imagine what these "stupid" individuals go through when they have to inform the survivors that their loved ones aren't coming home. I hope I never get so selfish or stubborn to put someone's life at risk because of lack of patience. I also hope I never get foolish enough to take these wonderful people for granted. This story had a happy ending, but I'm not sure some people will learn from this. It never happens to me, it's always the other guy.
  19. I know that when I reach the age of 65, I no longer need to renew my licence. Well I don't turn 65 until May, so I went to the Ministry website to renew for this year and got a popup box saying I didn't have to. I'm not sure that's correct so I sent an email to the Ministry to find out. If and when I get a reply, I'll let you know. If they email me back saying I don't have to, you can be sure that I'll print off the email to carry with my outdoor card.
  20. Congratulations!
  21. This is something to think about when negative people are doing their best to rain on your parade. So remember this story the next time someone who knows nothing and cares less tries to make your life miserable. A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband.. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded: " Rome ? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty.. You're crazy to go to Rome . So, how are you getting there?" "We're taking Continental," was the reply. "We got a great rate!" "Continental?" exclaimed the hairdresser.. " That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome ?" "We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome'sTiber River called Teste." "Don't go any further.. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump." "We're going to go to see the Vatican and maybe get to see the Pope." "That's rich," laughed the hairdresser. You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant. Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it." A month later, the woman again came in for a hairdo. The hairdresser asked her about her trip to Rome . "It was wonderful," explained the woman, "not only were we on time in one of Continental's brand new planes, but it was overbooked, and they bumped us up to first class.. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me hand and foot. And the hotel was great! They'd just finished a $5 million remodeling job, and now it's a jewel, the finest hotel in the city. They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner's suite at no extra charge!" "Well," muttered the hairdresser, "that's all well and good, but I know you didn't get to see the Pope." "Actually, we were quite lucky, because as we toured the Vatican , a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder, and explained that the Pope likes to meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait, the Pope would personally greet me. Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down and he spoke a few words to me." "Oh, really! What'd he say ?" He said: "Who the hell did your hair?"
  22. I've noticed that on a few threads lately there is obviously some tension. I don't know if it's early cabin fever, but I received this email from a friend and in the spirit of goodwill and a reminder that we are on this site because we share a common love of angling. Regardless of our political beliefs, lifestyle choices or whatever I share this with all of you. Let's remember how fortunate we are and please consider this before you react to fellow members posts. Some of us may not be as articulate and may be a little clumsy in our attempt to communicate, so let's not take everything as a challenge to our personal beliefs. It won't be easy but my early New years resolution is to try to be more patient and not over react. One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, 'How was the trip?' 'It was great, Dad.' 'Did you see how poor people live?' the father asked. 'Oh yeah,' said the son. 'So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?' asked the father. The son answered: 'I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.' The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, 'Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.' Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have. Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends! 'Life is too short and friends are too few.'
